You can do this without the mod. It’s a little more tedious, but you follow the same steps until you get to the barrier. After that, you need to place a packed rail station upwards then unpack it - it should connect to the previous rail if placed right. You’ll need to use a rail engine to continue going up. Keep unpacking rail stations above the previous ones and if you go up enough, you’ll flip. It’s recommended to go up from the other planet from here and then connect it. You need ~436 rail stations. Most likely very hard to do in survival but it’s possible!
I know. I think I mentioned it somewhere but I honestly don't remember. I recommend the mod because it's easier and it doesn't feel super cheaty to me, just makes a tedious task less tedious.

If I understand it correctly: There are two stages of interplanetary travel in Astroneer: Orbiting a planet, with fake representations of the other planets in the back, and the actual interplanetary orbit stage, at which you can hop from planet to planet. Still, the actual planets - those that have the stuff on their surface - are detached objects that do not correspond with the planets that we see "orbiting" the central star. It's two different systems. Is that why you can build a railroad (apart from a mod) between planets, because they don't actually move at all?
Technically you’re right but it’s unnecessarily complicated. Yes, there are “fake” images of the planets that appear to orbit around the sun, but the “real” planets are static according to the starmap. I wouldn’t call it 2 separate systems, just the “real locations” and the images. Using the knowledge of the static position of the “real” planets, it is possible to build a connection between them using rails. A mod isn’t even required, but without the mod it’s really difficult.
No they aren’t, those are just illusions, their real positions are static. Didn’t you see the map when I was activating a gateway on glacio and talking about how to build this? 2:23
@@Plaine Sure. So when I'm launching to another planet using a shuttle, the orbits of each planet are illusions? Okay, that's one thing. What about the invisible border that won't let you leave the atmosphere on foot?
@@AllyMind5Star The mod makes railroads extend long enough to reach the other planet. Vehicles can be propelled through the border, so the train can go through.
I am trying this in survival but when i make that thing straight up i cant get it higher than the limit of the jetpack, is there anyway to get around this?
The jetpack won't take you out of the atmosphere, but you can build ramps and walk up them without the jetpack. You could also use a rover with a paver and build a spiral ramp upward as well, though that will cost a lot of soil.
@@jop8023That’s shuttle height. It means a few things. It’s the height that shuttles orbit, beyond that height items don’t have gravity, and the compass doesn’t work.
You can use EVA to fly like in creative mode. The reward for the sun room mission. It needs special seeds to fly longer. But you can trade a charged fault finder for 2 seeds which make you fly for 30 minutes.
Is there a way to reach Gateway Portal with this mod? Do those towers need to be at the world height? Since the mod is making infinite connections, isn´t just modest tower enough? At 4:53 your rail is pointing to the right side, is it just bugging out, or connecting to some random rail left on some random planet? If you were to connect there, and ride it, would you end up in void or on one of your previously built rails?
Technically the towers don’t need to be up to the build limit, but it helps ensure the rails connect properly. The lower the tower, the wider the arc where rails will try to connect. It’s especially a problem on glacio and calidor because there are rail posts that your rails will try to connect to, so building high towers on both sides minimizes the interference. Other rail systems you already have in place can also cause interference, so which is why I build the towers. At 4:53, that rail is going off to another planet where a rail is placed. If you ride it, you’ll go to that other planet, you won’t go off into an infinite void.
hi, could you please help me with building this in survival on glacio beceause i already made it on sylva and now only need to make it on glacio. I have a beginning on glacio for the tower.

So much nice details and research. 👍

I built this over the span of a week or so. Maybe around 20 hours of gameplay total. (In creative)
