I sure do like that idea I'm going to do that on my shed too I wish I could have done it before I started this project but I can still do it because it's not really sit in stone yet thank you for that I live in a little tiny shed a 14 x 28 foot long shed that I am trying to turn into a cabin homesteading myself me and my husband trying to make this land hopefully for maybe future generations of family who would like to enjoy off-grid living
Nice job! I really appreciate your taking the time to tape this. Have you had any issues with your PT 2x4s warping? What about getting a good draft in your chimney with just 9'-ish of rise?
Hi there! We have had no issues with the 2x4s warping and its been 5 very cold winters. The draft was an issue. We did add another 3' of chimney rise and it helped alot. Then we took all the 90 degree turns out of the indoor pipe and that helped even more. I see you asked this a month ago. How is your progress going??
where did you get your flashing from to go through the walls? I ordered the Selkirk insulated 6 inch stove pipe that Pacific Yurts recommends. I went to 4 local hardware stores and can't find the right flashing. The hole needs to be 8 inches. Thank you!
Did the distance from the outside wall of the yurt to the vertical chimney pipe prove to be enough for heat disappation or would a 24 inch horizontal section from stove elbow to transition be a preference?
Is there wiggle room on the 8 inch spread? It looks like you're probably at 9 inches between your 2x4's??? I am just trying to get a feel for how exact I need to be since being exact is a tough skill for me.
We are rarely exact as well. We call everything our bird nest and make it work. I think just work with the support pieces you have and go from there. We weren't even concnered with the 8" after we got going. Just built the support kit to fit what we made. It all worked out.
Cool, that is what I was thinking. It seems all my support pieces are 16" out -- both the wall bands and the wall support for under the tee, so at least they are congruent. I'm knocking this out tomorrow man. It's gonna feel good to get it done...then the snow will fly!
Thank you for your videos. We have been watching and looking into moving in a yurt. I was wondering what kind of insulation package you purchased with your yurt? They want $10k for artic insulation and we were wondering if there are ways of insulating it ourselves to with stand cold winters. Peace be the journey...
Hi there. We bought a Pacific yurt and there insulation package was an extra $3,000(around there). Can you insulate it yourself? Yes of course. They use the double reflective insulation that you can buy at any home improvement store.. The trick would be to piecing it all together and getting a good seam. Also so you don't have to see the insulation our insulation came with a white fabric overtop of it. But that can easily be duplicated. We were short on time and choose to go with the package the Pacific yurt company had. It works well. We may add another layer at some point.
We really can't put a number on the total hours. It always takes us double to do these projects as they are the first time we ever did them. Someone who has experience will get this done much quicker then us. Good luck!
Did you do something to keep the 4x6's spaced apart when you set them in concrete? What length 4x6 did you pick up? and what length 2x4's? Ourt yurt is 20 feet, so we won't have to go quite as high to get the clearance.
What was your process for deciding where to dig and set the posts? Did you measure x-distance out from the base or just eyeball it after you put the T-pipe in?
Great job on putting everything together. That's going to work great. Keep up the great work. Thanks for sharing

Have you had any leaks around the flashing?
No leaks around the flashing. Everything has worked great!

Your video is one of a kind as far as I can tell....walking through it all. Thanks to you both.

Also thanks for watching. Let me know what you decide to do.
How many hours total do you think it took you to put this up? I have to pay someone hourly, so I'm trying to get a rough estimate on labor costs.

Is that untreated lumber? Do you have contact info where I can ask you some other questions? Or should I just ask here? I am new to the youtube gig.
The inside lumber is untreated, the outside lumber is pressure treated. What other questions do you have?
First, great video and THANK YOU! Perfect timing....getting ready to set ours up in Northern Michigan just before snow flies

Also, do you see any challenges if I go with 2- 4x4 side by side instead of 2-4x6?
Livestock. Not lifestock
Why..who wants to live in a tent ??
