Washington Salmon Fishing 2020 (South Fork Nooksack River)

- How's it going guys and gals? On today's episode, I explore the south fork of the Nooksack River. I found this spot on google maps, and after checking the regulations, and seeing that you can retain 6 fish, I figured I'll have a pretty good chance fishing here. Well, the river had other ideas!
It was a cold, wet day, but any day fishing beats not fishing at all.
Hope you guys enjoy this video! I don't think I'll be fishing in the rain again anytime soon 😂
Also, please leave a comment and let me know what you think about my video not having any background music this time. I really enjoyed hearing the sounds of rain and the rushing river, and hopefully you guys will enjoy it as well! THANKS FOR WATCHING!!!
When people asked me after trip like this, "did you catch anything?", answer is always gonna be "nothing but memories!". Even though no fish, the great outdoor experience will last a lifetime. Keep fishing!
100% true my guy! I come from LA so experiencing the wilderness out here has been a real gift. The PNW is a magical place if you love the outdoors.
@@ReelFishingPNW Cool! I came from LA as well. ✌️
@@ej1547 what?? No way haha that's awesome!
@@ReelFishingPNW Chino Hills to be exact. If you count that as LA. 😁
@@ej1547 it counts! I actually grew up around San Gabriel & Pasadena. Easier to just say LA haha 👍🏼
A +, Brother Angler !
You are the reel deal. That is the only way to do it my friend. Explore, Observe, Experiment, Learn. Start a log for all of your adventures, weather water levels water color always check water temps. From there many of the questions you ask yourself are already answered. I'll follow your videos. Not a lot of guys are willing to put in the work these days. Peace. And tie lines.
Thank you Gene! Good energy always appreciated brother. Hope you’re having a happy holidays! Tight lines 🎣
It's Beautiful!
Video Just out which puts it all in jeopardy and has "TOWN PAPER" as backdrop.
They have rang the Bell!
Most people would have given up. You’re a champ for sticking to it. I bet it’s totally rewarding once you do hook on one. Until then keep on fishing bro! I’m from PNW myself maybe one day we’ll hit the rivers together
Hell yeah I'd be down! Hit me up IG we'll link up on the water one day.
@@ReelFishingPNWI don’t use IG but I was just a minter last week. Have you ever fish at Humptulips? That’s been my to go place for last couple of months. Nice chrome coho and chinook up there even tho the chums are coming in
@@alvinnguyen2643 Never fished Humptulips but I was thinking about staying at a casino down there and fishing the rivers in the area. Maybe doing like a 2-3 day trip? I heard the runs are pretty epic!
@@ReelFishingPNW sounds fun bro. I’ve done pretty good at the hump this year but that was on a friends drift boat. I’ve seen a bunch of bank fisherman doing good as well. There should be more chrome silvers coming in.
I recommend you fish off Saxon rd... park before the hatchery and take the woods down to the river. It takes 20 min to get your limit of 6 mid/late October...
Thanks man, I was wondering how to get on the other side. Couldn't tell if there was parking or not. Appreciate the info 🙏
never wise to spot burn
Just wondering where your at? Like Deming?
Yup! And if I remember correctly I hit some spots around Acme too!
Great video!
Thank you 🙏🏻
Having the whole place to yourself, sweet!! I almost exclusively fish where there’s no one else💪🏽 gotta keep at it. Enjoyed your video
Thanks bro appreciate it!
Keep up the good work bro! I caught my very first COHO on the East Fork just last week. Enjoy watching your vids, keep em coming!
Congrats man!! And thank you for the support 🙏
I haven’t had a chance to Salmon fish this year. Work to many 16 hour shifts. I need a good vacation to get some river time. Great video. Fish on!!!!!
Appreciate you man! Sub'd your channel!!! Best of luck in the future. Hope you get that river therapy sooner than later!
@@ReelFishingPNW I think I followed you on insta, if you only have a few pics? Either way im from MV and been fishing almost every afternoon on the skagit and both forks of the nooksack, give a shout if you want to link up sometime, this is my first year on salmon but ive been exploring lots of spots.. insta: @sleeping_glass
@@sleepingglassyup that's me! I'm not that active on IG... handling one social media account is enough for me haha anyway I'll hit you up next time I'm fishing up there!! Thanks for the support man. Hopefully the fishing turns ON for the both of us!
@@ReelFishingPNW your tellin me! My buddy has got a few coho very recently but they are tapering out in their numbers.. Pinks next season will be HOT though
@@sleepingglass I cannot WAIT for those pinks!!!
What part of south fork were you on?
It's been a while but I believe this was in the Acme area. Hope that helps!
I used to fish the South Fork of the Nooksack for steelhead used to be awesome but I don't know what happened fish seem to be gone very sad
Look on a map and find a bend in the river and scope out some holes, you wanna twitch and float some slower water, that spot might be better tho with a lower flow tho aka cfs 👌🏻 keep it up.
It’s hard to get them when rivers are blown with chocolate milk water, look at a river flow app and do a little research on what they flow at during summer months and judge it off of that cfs before you go🎣
Awesome video friend
Thanks man! Appreciate the support... Sub'd you back! 🤜🤛
A pair of decent waders is almost necessary when bank fishing for salmon or steelhead up here. :) We still got a good amount of time this season, too! Keep em up!
It would have taken me 2 minutes to turn around and put mine on. Rookie mistake but a lesson learned! Thanks for watching/commenting 🙏
For sure
is this near the skookum hatchery?
Yup 👍🏼
I'm hoping for luck I'm going to the south fork on Tuesday, kinda mad north fork is completely shut off. Good luck though
Good luck to you as well! The conditions will be way better next week!
why do you say its shut off? south fork was dead last two times I went, including today
In high water like that, the fish will.be right under your rod tip. Sailing it out into fast flows is counterproductive. Your baitcaster sounds like it needs a doctor as well as your spinning setup. Plunking a spin-n-Flo and eggs 4 to 6 feet from the bank was your best bet, right at the current seam. At the second spot, they will usually roll and show themselves in that slack water. All down that gravel bar you passed up that inside seam. Short lines in high water.
Yeah I'm not happy with the KastKing stuff from Amazon. I've had to replace the spinning reel and the baitcaster, which is casting better, but is not smooth at all. Thanks for the other tips, man. I figured fishing in that fast water would be pointless lol I think I'm going to try and avoid high water situations as much as possible
Get a piscifun torrent. Iv caught countless salmon on it and it’s only a $40 reel. (Baitcaster) it have 19lbs of drag and it’s smoooooth. Best $40 ever spent
Kastking reels are known for sucking
a$$. Kastking rods are how they make their money. No one likes their reels
@@andrewscheel2366 When this bait caster craps out, and I know it will, I'll check out that piscifun reel. They make pretty good accessories too.
Good luck 🤞
Bro you gotta get some waders😂
That 2nd spot would be over run with whale tails, beer bellies and barbeques, in July August.
😂
keep a personal journal of all your trips note water flow ,clarity ,date and time and holes you could and couldnt fish and what worked to get em .at the end of the year you can tally your fish and what you got the most on and the least on and what river was best to worst you fished on .just food for thought
Dude... that's such a dope idea, thank you!! BTW I just subbed your channel. You got a lot of good content man! Going to binge watch them tonight.
@@ReelFishingPNW thanks we should get together and hit some steelies
@@fishnrob3886 I'm down brother. are you out on the peninsula?
@@ReelFishingPNW i will get back with you im taking this week off then fishing next week im off wed thur sunday maybe one of those days we can meet up .
i live in pierce county
Good luck bro I'm on the skunk with you it can't last forever keep pushing
Thanks man, same to you! It's gonna happen for both of us 🤜🤛
Dam haven't fished that spot for 20 yrs. I like the north fork myself
It was a beautiful spot! Looking forward to coming back here this spring/summer 👍
I've also fished the wallace and the Nooksack this last month with very similar results. Let me know if you need a partner I been scouting and fishing alone. I'm game to scout and fish... I need a dang salmon before the year is over.
Sounds good man! I'm going to try and hit up the Wallace a couple times this week after work if you got time. And I feel you, all I need is ONE 😂🎣
@@ReelFishingPNW normally off work late during the week. I'm actually on my way to the Wallace today. Any Saturday and Sunday I'm available. let me know
@@EarthandOceanLLC good luck!! Would love to hear how you did @ the Wallace. I might head over in a bit too 🎣
Hey bro. Digging the content. It's a grind out there especially rite now with all the high water. Some stuff is coming into play. I'm no good with all this social Media. But how can contact you? Let's get together. I would like to show you some spots on the coast of Washington if you are interested. Only if you don't say river names and spot is u film tho. Just out of respect for all the other fisherman. Let me know!
What's up Austin? Thanks for checking out my videos man. I actually wanted to hit up some coastal rivers in December but had to reschedule. Hit me up on IG@ reelfishingpnw or email: reelfishing@gmail.com
Great video
Thank you sir!!
Last two years on the sf have been absolutely garbage. Opening day at the hatchery hole produced like 10 fish total for all 50 ish anglers that we’re there with us. Unfortunate to see.
That's sad to hear. This seems to be the case for most rivers in our area. Hoping for some drastic changes over these next couple years. There shouldn't be a reason why other areas can't have steelhead/salmon runs like the rivers in the Olympic Peninsula
@@ReelFishingPNW yeah no kidding. The Nooksack unfortunately gets heavy and unregulated netting though. Sometimes you can get lucky when some fish can push in when the nets are out but seems like most of the year now they are clear across the river in multiple spots down near the mouth.
i went fishing today on the nooksack river, didn’t catch anything but i got a bite on a jig
Man, it's been tough sledding this season! I got out today too, and you got more action than I did 😂
Are you from upstate
I'm in Marysville 👍
Whats with the bills hat then bro
@@matthewlong2327 oh you mean originally! I'm from Los Angeles but I got family in Delaware and Toronto. We use to visit Delaware, then take the train from Buffalo to TOR. Grabbed me a Bills' hat in 1990 and been a fan since.
Maby stop netting the river would be a better way to help the salmon or cast netting ? I don't know if cast netting is legal for the natives to do , I do see netting going half way across some times maby it's time to stop doing that
Need to come to the coast I'll put ya on some fish.
Please do!! I'm feeling desperate lol thanks man appreciate that 🙏🏼
This guy has 7000 views and no fish?! WTF I’m on it🤙🏼
I think I've watched like 3 or 4 videos now.... all no fish. I don't want to disparage you, but..
Thanks for watching man. It's all part of the learning process! Definitely not going to be catching fish every video on this channel 🤣🤷♀️
Maybe wait till you catch to post homie
Pink salmon are the easiest salmon to catch
I'm pumped for the run next year!! Should be fun.
@@ReelFishingPNW me last yaer caught like 25+
@@davidbossi325 that's awesome man. Cant wait!
