Encouraging that E:D still makes money for FDev. Surprised they don't supply more in-game stuff for players to buy to swell the coffers: most of us got our money's worth out of the game years ago, and are looking for ways to support it! Given that new players are always tempted to find accelerated ways to get credits & rep (grinding and logging), why not give them the option to pay hard cash for a shortcut instead? That might rankle some a bit, but would likely mean some happier new players and some money to support more development. Then give me base building, and all the mechanics and reasons to play the rest of the game that would bring!
Frontier has an opportunity…… bring Odyssey to the PS5 (Xbox has Starfield), and PS owners would jump at the chance to play it as it would be the only current competitor to Starfield and Star Citizen for the PS5.

Excellent summary of latest trailer and especially the financial and corporate strategic pillar reporting. I don't have time to dig all this up myself, and I am encouraged hearing that the development company of my favorite game sees strategic value in it. As for the Thargoid story line, I am very intrigued. I am a bit disappointed that I have not been able to effectively engage in the story and events... I've barely gotten my first success in AX combat and trying to do anything that interacts with the various Thargoid invasion activities seems beyond my reach. But as I get further into that and other aspects of Elite, I am encouraged about it continuing to be a serious Open Galaxy Space Simulation that will have many angles to engage in as time allows. ~CMDR Ojo
Frankly, from FDev having a new IP and even hiring for another new IP, makes sense for the numbers to go down. Any company growing ends up getting lower financial indicators (unless doing the kind of math magic that some startups are famous for now). My educated guess is that if the new launches for the next financial year make a good bank, they will recover to former shape or grow a bit (we're still on recovery from pandemic), and if not, they'll just restructure to keep return to that shape (fire branches, sell some IP/smaller studios they own, etc). And even on the worst case, they won't directly target their main IPs, since that would end up snowballing and shooting themselves in the foot. Doomsayers were fun when they were on the streets. Seeing them on the games we play got them less fun for me now. Also, did the people at Cannon already investigated to know where in the galaxy that footage was from? We got quite a lot of shots showing some stars, and at some point even a shot that showed a far away star with some planets (meaning a system with at least 2 stars). That should've been enough for them (they found a green planet in deep space with less, I think).
An there new acquisition is hiring as well, and taken their numbers from 18 to 25, I'm sure by this time next year we will be looking at them having 50+ staff in their Canadian studio.
I really hope they will come up with new content for Elite that people actually want. Odyssey need a complete overhaul with progression and engineering. And more ships...usable capital ships are also a thing people want. The targoid stuff is just not that interesting. It is literally content for a few hundred users by now :/ I whould love to have a reason to play elite. but right now, I rather play someting else which is less grindy. I have a job. Good to hear the commitment to open space dev. My time with ED runs a bit hot and cold these days but there's no doubt in my mind that Frontier are unrivaled in their conceptual work in the space genre. This is superb sci-fi in its own right and across any medium. No doubt some rocky times are ahead but I would HATE to see ED close up development shop and cease to update and work on the game. There's STILL no other game quite like it.
If they took the base/city building, dinosaurs and wildlife from Jurassic World and put them into Elite on planets with breathable atmospheres along with ship interiors and allowing you to play in third person, then and only then would ever pick up Elite Dangerous again.
I only know that ED is much more than Thargoids and that story, and after this time they should also give more content about the other aspects of the Great Space Smulator ED is! Small steps could make people happier, take care of your fans and give them some love and they will do the work for you. Ignore them and they will look for other options.... the adaptability of a game depending of the playerbase demand is essential. but Lets see what is coming to ED!. I hope not only thargoids :P. Good morning Mr. Pitt, consoles are also adding the benefits of frontier. But, when will Odyssey turn to consoles if they are within that benefit? Best regards
A company that is buying over smaller developers and shelling out for licenses to produce games for big name franchises like Warhammer is not in trouble. Unless they overreach and fail to deliver. Frontier are experienced enough and clever enough not to do that. So I'm not worried especially since they have declared Elite as one of their Core Products. I'll also add, having briefly played lesser games like NMS, SC and Starfield, Frontier has nothing to worry about from them either imho.
Here's hoping for that delayed basic gameply quality update! I'm also thinking that ED could become subscription based. I'd happily pay annually to keep it going.
I'd love for Fdev to invest more in Elite. It's perfect for those who want a more arcadey experience. I dont even know where I'd go if Elite shut down. Would be a huge hole in market imo.
Yes I was, but more happy to hear elite is still good side source of revenue for them. Good indicator imo of continued support and that game is doing well player base wise overall. Me thinks we commanders don’t have much to worry about. Now just get your ish together F1 games 😂

I do be sad to lose elite dangerous.
I think you have a big problem. If you are not able to see the "obvious", you will always stumble over reality and you will not understand why things happen. It is obvious that they compare E.D with NMS, SF or SC.
@@palmironeira195 Is it obvious? They are totally different genres, a resource gathering game, a RPG and an alpha that will never release... But they do have spaceships... (and yes, I pledged to the eternal alpha years ago)

They lost me when they kill VR. This was best VR game out there, but.....they decided to kill it. I have feeling they always do opposite of what players want.
Yep there's plenty to do in the game. A good amount of it's in your mindset though. It's not a game to complete so much as it is a game universe to "live in", like the original Elite was back in 1984. Having a personal narrative and "blazing your own trail" is a good idea. Winging up with other friendly players helps too.
Plenty... We've been having a nice little PvP session tonight, all it needs to play the game is the ability to have fun - dunno about the grind, never done it, others choose to, apparently.
@@crazygolm I've done expeditions to the core and the other side of the galaxy, got all the ships, did all the upgrading.... there is no real goal to the game other than grinding for a better ship to pew-pew or make bigger jumps to explore faster.
@codymonster7481 In my opinion you should set your own goals that aren't just "get bigger and better stuff". I believe the point of the game is to "blaze your own trail". In the absence of things that you need to do, figure out what you actually want to do in the game, and do it. Come up with your own personal narrative of who your CMDR is if that helps. Flying with others also helps a lot! Bear in mind also that no game is perfect and will ever fully satisfy us. The initial fun will wear off and that's natural, but it doesn't mean you can't enjoy the game anymore. It's no bad thing to step away and "touch grass" from the game (as with any game) for a while, especially if you've burned yourself out. Elite is a game that doesn't replace the imagination, but facilitates it. It doesn't give you a goal in that sense, you have to provide that yourself.
If the new update is just taking the Odyssey mechanics and applying a Thargoid skin... that would basically be scuttling the ship. They need to fix the underpinnings. Update the economy simulation to bring real depth to trading, fix mining up a bit for the weirdos who like that sort of thing, make powerplay relevant. We don't need another arcade shooter. I haven't played since shortly after Odyssey came out. This teaser doesn't inspire me to log in again.
Personally with 57 weeks into this game I gotten my moneys worth, and have thoroughly enjoyed the game, for the most part. With that said, I’m not a big Thargoid killer and I wish the FD would’ve listened to the community more and what we wanted. With Starfield and Homeworld coming out I’m going to say good bye to Elite Dangerous since they’re on this tunnel vision Thargoid path.
The detail that seems to have been missed is that frontier has LOST $900 million dollars, much of that money generated by the elite player base, focusing on and pushing out trash that elite players didn’t give a crap about. And if Bathesda has shown Frontier anything at all, it’s that in fact, ship interiors were important to the player base. See you guys in Elite 2! If I’m fact Frontier survives to ever make it.
Good to hear that FDev are not abandoning Elite, and see the genre as a "pillar". However, they need to start charging for more updates and DLC. Maintenance updates are fair enough as free - so they should be - but feature enhancements and new content is justifiably chargeable. Their current model of "free for all except major updates" is unsustainable. The charging model used by Bethesda for Eldersrcolls online would work well: bug fixes and performance enhancement are free, new storylines and content is chargable. Finally, this ridiculous "free for life" deal with the Kickstarter community needs to be closed down. It has been a factor for over a decade now, surely this group have dragged the last bit of blood from the stone by now? If we want to see the game survive for another decade, and not be relegated to "maintenance", or worse shut down, we need to be prepared to put up the cash.
The truth is FDev is 2nd rate; their defining characteristic being that everything is half-baked. To give an example: whenever I approach my own carrier I am greeted with the words "....thank you for visiting our carrier...." and I continue to be treated like a guest thereafter. Why? Because FD couldn't be bothered to do the job properly and treat owners like owners. What I take away from my experience of Elite Dangerous is disappointment.
I don't care about interiors - but understand it is dead for you - not for me, nor my group, but none of us has a dolls-house mentality, which probably helps.

@@the_rat_run Keep lying to yourself, but that won't change reality.
@@palmironeira195 I love your sense of humour... My reality is fine, thanks.
and nothing for Interior cockpit anymore!
only thargoids and thargoids and thargoids..
imagine game like this in 2023 have large ships "vette, conda, cutter" etc should have a lot interior details to discover .. still not and and all you can do just ride the ships!
Waiting for non-Thargoid content. I'll be back at that point.
More amazing skins so we buy more, more amazing content so we login more!
This looks to be a terraforming thing we're looking at. Note all the gas pumping out of the spires and slowly falling to the ground.
FDEV, please pay special attention to this: make an Elite game RTS. youre welcome
3:30 dead space obelisk vibe
+rep for supreme commander
looks like a terraforming equipment!
Is there any hope for ED in 2024 ?
F1 manager is a write off, it has already lost them 15 million pound. F1 is going to be cut soon, possible post F1 Manager 2024.
And for God’s sake! Monetize! No income, no money to pay the programmers.
I am literally praying they save this game...
I think the should do away with F1 Manager personally.
@ 2:55 careful you don't want to upset the flat earthers lol
Based on the priorities of FDEV, and playing “which one of these is not like the other”, it would seem that ED may be in sunset.
Regarding your pronunciation of EBITDA, in accounting it is prononced E-BIT-DA (3 sillybulls)
lol, Thanks... You spelt pronounced wrong 🤣 o7
They lost me when they kill VR. This was best VR game out there, but.....they decided to kill it. I have feeling they always do opposite of what players want.
I have dropped elite for Starfield, Elite DEVs are still crapping and killing slowly the game, come one FDev! DO SOMETHING RIGHT!!
This Thargoid story is a DEAD END for the game too.
Is there anything to do yet in this game besides grinding just to grind, with the most repetitious and mind-numbing missions?
It doesn't give you a goal in that sense, you have to provide that yourself.
since they cant be booted from matrix systems, maybe they are terraforming for permanent occupation
This teaser doesn't inspire me to log in again.
thargoid has killed it for me, they cant do anything apart from thargoid thargoid thargoid crap.
After seeing the recent CitizenCon presentation, this game looks quite potato tbh...
Lost $900 million? Don't you mean stockholders have lost that much? There is a difference...
*citation needed.
I honestly enjoy the game for what it is, and I'm not the only one.
The best space sim became a dead alien shooter
That's not true at all ... We shoot them while they're still alive!! ;) o7
Until we have the interiors we were promised… it’s a dead game.
Elite is not dead.
agree
@@raghav1026 And interiors were "never promised" he got both wrong
@@suburbia2050 well they were promised but that was before the game even released iirc. So obviously things have changed since then
I don't care about interiors - but understand it is dead for you - not for me, nor my group, but none of us has a dolls-house mentality, which probably helps.
lol, Dead Space monolith confirmed wtf
The marriage of starfield and elite dangerous *fap*fap*😊
Yep, it's me 👍 number 333 🪐
