I often get comments asking me what the best appetite suppressants are, or if I have any tricks to reduce the feeling of hunger. The only correct answer to that is to EAT FOOD!
Drinking water, chewing gum, smoking, or drinking coffee are all commonly used as techniques to suppress your appetite, but they only make your drive for food stronger.
Acknowledging your hunger cues can be difficult when you’re used to restricting, but it’s extremely important to focus on. Your body knows what it needs and if it’s giving you hunger signals, you can only fool it with water for so long. Disregarding these cues is just fueling the binge-then-restrict cycle.
Feelings of hunger can only be satisfied with food. If you’ve been dieting or severely restricting for a while, you may feel like your hunger is excessive- but that’s just your body trying to catch up. You need to honor it as much as you can!
Hunger is not something to be afraid of. It’s only a sign that your body gives you to let you know that it needs energy. The sooner you acknowledge it, the better.

Umm, the video was satire so no lmao Gum has never suppressed my hunger, always made me hungrier. And water will suppress temporarily, eventually you'll get nausea and just throw up a bunch of water and bile and have a hospital visit, speaking from personal experience. Like the person above said, just try eating.

The advice to just eat if you are hungry is really not helpful. I followed that for a bit and gained 20 lbs, my BMI moved from normal to overweight, and I hated the way I looked & my clothes all started feeling way too tight. Your body most definitely does give you false hunger cues and the way to fight them is to address the underlying issues.
Obviously you need to eat healthy. Not just any food
It's based on *what* you're eating most importantly.. were you eating a lot of dark leafy greens, good proteins, healthy fats, good carbs, not overdoing carbs, tiny amounts of sugar or a sugar replacement like xylitol, taking acv before or after meals(especially if you've had allot of sugar or heavy carbs, drinking a lot of water, healthy beverages instead of soda/very sweet juice? I doubt it from the sound of what you said.. probiotics/prebiotics are amazing for the body as a whole and herbal teas are also great for your health and digestion.. if you're eating right when you're hungry(meaning your stomach growls).. you won't gain a lot of weight.. you'll either maintain or lose.
Yes cause it's not because you're hungry that you have to eat anything at anytime. Everything is about balance. Eat enough for your body, not too much but not to less. Don't fall into the extremes. And make sure to eat a healthy and sustainable meal so that you don't feel hungry all day long. And try to avoid snack between meals. It's not the food that you need to blame for your weight gain, it's about your habits.

I took this advice as a teen and now I’ve put on 40 pounds and I have tons of physical health issues. If you fight hunger for too long your body’s instincts will kick in and you’ll put on weight. I’ve been yo yo dieting for 7 years and I can hardly get sick with out it being an ER visit. Make peace with food and listen to your body. That’s how you achieve health. Not starving yourself.

chewing gum is actually real, I got a lot of gum so i chewed a lot and i ate less. Buuuut the downside of that was that I had to go to the ER cuz of a health related accident because of the lack of food so don't do what I did!
Just gonna pop in here and say that “intuitive eating“ has fixed my eating disorder. I didn’t even know I was doing it when I started it but I had a binge eating disorder and went back and forth between dieting / counting calories / starving myself and binging relentlessly. I felt so helpless, I had no control over my eating habits. Eventually I got so burnt out from school and I realized I was ruining my mental health by my obsession with losing weight. So I just “gave up“.
I unknowingly started practicing intuitive eating and I just ate whatever I wanted whenever I felt like it.
The binge attacks were the first to go, next the insatiable cravings and now I barely even eat my former binge foods anymore. I don’t eat over my limit anymore. I even lost almost 20kg.
It was a slow process, but after a few years I feel completely cured from my eating disorder.
I know this video was about hunger and not appetite but to anyone struggling with binging, I highly recommend intuitive eating.
I recognize that it takes a lot faith to start it, but I can only say that for me, it‘s been the only thing that EVER worked for me long term. All the diets I‘ve tried (even the “healthy“ ones) have only ever backfired. I thought I was weak and lacking discipline but in reality I was just trying too hard to restrict myself.

Eating plenty of non-starchy vegetables is one of the best ways to feel full and cut calories. Drink plenty of water with meals. And take time to chew thoroughly.

Starchy vegetables absolutely can and generally should be part of a healthy diet. But overconsumption can add too many calories. Non-starchy vegetables provide plenty of nutrition with few calories while helping you feel full and satisfied due to bulk (bulk = fiber + water).

I thought she was dead serious with the 1st two pts 😆 cuz for real, my mom says the water thing all the time. There is some base to it tho, especially if you’ve already eaten a full meal & u still want more without knowing why. For underweight ppl, of course just eat when ur hungry, but for someone heavier like me with binge tendencies, sometimes hunger can be a different signal misinterpreted-boredom, thirst, fatigue-they can all make my brain scream “I want food” without true _hunger_ from the body & it’s important to still try and navigate that

Yeah because it's a distraction, but after some time that'll make you sick. I went to the hospital from throwing up water when i was hungry. Gum makes me hungrier, I think gum makes you hungry so it wasn't true at all.
When people usually give satire they say silly things that aren’t actually useful to people that struggle with these real life issues. keep that in mind please.

Exactly! There should be an entire skit done on the conflicting & sanctimonious wellness influencers on social media.
Count calories or no? Eat meat or plant based? Cardio is good or bad? Intermittent fasting or no? Don't drink your calories or drink smoothies? Have a cheat day or cut out all sugar? Watch the number on the scale or check measurements? Focus on excessive protein or a balanced ratio of macros? etc etc
People are bombarded with so many different opinions and theories these days, it would be great if an entire satire video was done exposing all of this - AND the truth behind the science!

Chewing gum makes you more hungry because your brain thinks you're eating but your stomach is still empty so it demands food even more lmfao
Heres some fr advice:
1) water is good actually(gum doesnt work though it makes you more hungry)
2) Coffee
3) High ammount low cal meals(like veggies or friunt or lean meats such as chicken)
4) intake high protein and fiber will help aswell.
5) Get your vitimin levels checked, many different vitamin deficiencies can cause excessive hunger.

I weigh 600 pounds and this advice really helped me!!! I will never lose weight!!!!
I know everyone hates it. But I did smoke a cigar for the first 4 days of my 40 day Fast. Yes it did help me suppress my appetite. And no I am not addicted and it didn't mess up up my fasting. Gum However doesn't work for me. Water I piss out and it didn't work. However mineral water actually worked for me. The first few days if I got a panic attack I did have a 0 calorie and 0 sugar diet coke and it got rid of my panic attack. But beware!! You should not drink those after the first few days of your fast and not on a regular basis. Phosphoric acid is only good to clean up your system when you are cleansing the first few days. The first few days i also did laxative tea and sea salt water cleanse. Do not use Himalayan Salt!

I think the biggest advice is to drink a glass of water and eat a Whole Foods plant based carrot or celery with peanut butter. And avoid processed foods.

Honestly though, water is actually good. When I feel like I’m hungry during a non regular meal time frame, I drink some water and get up and go for a walk or do the laundry and then reassess. If I still feel hungry, I’ll go get a banana or an apple with peanut butter. I won’t eat anything too processed if I’m legit hungry since they are empty calories that my body will burn right through. But if I just want a little treat and I’m not really hungry, that’s when I’ll pull out a little bowl and have some Doritos if I want to.

That fixes hunger, not appetite. Appetite is the desire to eat. That advice doesnt help people with a real appetite problem or with clinically diagnosed Binge Eating Disorder.

I used to drink water and chew gum instead of food back in high school and do a lot of cardio and it helped me lose a lot of weight around 80lbs in 2-3 months now I’m about 20 lbs over weight again and started to do the same thing again I’ve lost 10-12 lbs in a week

Thanks I’m trying to lose weight. I’ve gained weight recently after having a baby because I’ve been using food to cope with stress. It’s become a huge crutch for me even though I was very athletic and eating properly before I had the baby. Things like trying to breathe or workout or do things “I enjoy” haven’t helped at all to break this psychological crutch I’ve developed with food. So I’m looking around seeking further tips and guidance on what I can do to get back on track.
I don't mean to be rude, but did you finish the video? I really don't think you're supposed to smoke cigs to suppress hunger. Please don't do any of those tips! Being hungry will actually make you gain weight eventually. Gaining weight isn't a bad thing, nor is it permanent!! But let yourself rest a bit, enjoy your food girly. Then focus on a plan that you can do everyday little by little to build up to your goal. I'm literally on this video because I had a baby as well and am stressed but the opposite of you, I starve and have lost weight, but I feel like an empty shell ready to break. Food is amazing, your body is amazing, you had a whole kid! Rest up, enjoy eating and then find tips online to build a better relationship with food or if you eat a lot try making healthier meals if you can! Don't starve yourself please, you don't deserve that. Your baby and you need YOU at full energy. I play with my one year old and run out of breath fast due to lack of eating. Drinking water when I was hungry would make me throw up and go to the hospital. Gum for me also causes more hunger.
