What did you guys make of 'XL 7'? Which tune(s) of the 10 is your pick? Drop all your thoughts in the comments! 💙
I absolutely loved badklatts and kill feeds tracks, they killed it
definitely aweminus, kill feed, dissasoction
kill feed went off omg
Which songs have the kind of percussion/backdrop you are looking for??
Most of these songs do them just fine to my ears, so I'm curious to hear your preferences
My favourite was badklaat
thankyou for the review mate, appreciate your thoughts, completely agree with you there on the percussion, was quite an old track, so will definitely try and bring the drums out more in future projects. Once again, thankyou for the review!!
Keep em coming boss!
Your music is so cool! Can't wait for Warlords :)
🤟🏽🤟🏽
Monster choon bruv
make the snare PHAT, nawtystep will love it. lol
Uhh Joe? WHAT WERE YOU ON FOR ROCK A PARTY?!? I've not been in love with a song this much in ages.
Good lord, what a truly brilliant compilation! Start to finish there's something to enjoy at every turn, its paced very well, and the tracks themselves are superb! I'll give a rundown on each of the tracks:
Oddprophet - Vauxhall Tearout:
An absolutely brilliant opener. The intro coveys the feeling of tension and excitement before a live show, with some really great sounds, gave me proper chills. The drops are utterly brutal in every sense of the word, disgusting sound design, impactful vocal chops, stellar composition, and a truly amazing idea to boot. The track progresses very well too, I love the sound design switch-ups in the second drop, which is even better than the first.
BadKlaat - Evolved:
BadKlaat has been very hit or miss this year, with the hist being very few and far between. However, this track is undoubtedly in the "hit" category. The triumphant horns in the intro set the scene perfectly into the build, and the drops are spectacularly assembled, high energy, and incredibly impactful, with some great vocal chops as well. Brilliant tune, feels like a return to form for BadKlaat after quite a while of not being up to par.
JoeB - Chainshot:
I love this a lot! The strange and almost manic off-drops lead incredibly well into the brutal drops, with some absolutely incredible vocal chopping throughout. I love the impact of the sound design, really does feel like chains being shot at you. The overall idea and composition are amazing, super jittery and the little melodic touches add a lot to the drops, not to mention the constant switch-ups which keep the song super engaging. I'm glad JoeB has been getting more attention, he deserves it.
Kill Feed - Back N' Forth:
I've enjoyed Kill Feed's recent music, but he's truly gone above and beyond for this track. The intro is absolutely gorgeous and very enjoyable and transitions very well into the build-up. The drops are straight-up INCREDIBLE, so bouncy, full of flavour and energy, and they are really well assembled and engaging, some really great sound design on show. The switch-ups are also great, expanding on the main idea in great ways. Absolutely amazing tune overall.
Oddprophet - Disassociation:
What is there to say other than "AMAZING"? The melodies are easily some of Oddprophet's best, super vibrant, mixing uplifting and melancholy vibes effortlessly (honestly the melodies are even better than Riddim Love Song), and the vocal samples are brilliant too. The melodic fakeouts before the parts of the drops are awesome, super exciting and full of life, before going into the drops themselves which are utterly brutal, jam-packed with amazing sound design and seamless composition. I also really love how the second drop turns the melodic fakeouts into the actual drop, it's a really nice progression of the song. This track might be one of my favourite tracks of the year, Oddprophet really outdid himself.
Aweminus - Close My Eyes:
Aweminus' output this year has been incredible, and this track is no exception. The unnerving melodies and vocals are amazing and lead perfectly into the straight-up riddim madness that are the drops. The sound design, as is per usual with Aweminus, is amazing, very earthy and dark. I thought the kind of directionless midsection worked really well, captured the surreal atmosphere of the rest of the track. Overall a really solid riddim tune.
TRVCY - Shiver:
This track is really good. The more chill vibe in the off-drops contrast really well with the pure insanity that are the drops, they really capture the feeling of being swept up in a snowstorm. They have so much energy and flavour, and TRVCY's sound design is once again very enjoyable. And that jazzy mid-section, my god. An absolute vibe, no doubt about it. This is a really great tune overall.
Oddprophet - Disgrace:
The atmosphere on this track is incredible, absolutely chilling. The vocals are both hilarious and imposing, and come to set the stage for the brutal drops, which have some truly amazing and complex composition and earthy sound design. The energy and impact on them are insane, and they stay engaging thanks to having loads of really interesting switch-ups. I also can't stress enough how great the composition is, it's just so engaging and makes the track a blast to listen to. Really brutal track overall.
Krimer - Code Execution:
This is unfortunately the weak link of the compilation. The tension built in the off-drops is super engaging, and the build-ups are great too, however the drops don't feel all that special, being pretty basic and typical for him in both sound design and ideas. There are a few good moments and some nice sound design aspects which stop me from disliking this track, however compared to the other tracks on the comp it just doesn't stand out too much.
Graphyt & Diskirz - Reload:
Graphyt's last EP wasn't particularly up to snuff, however this track certainly makes up for it. I love the melodies in the intro, and the rave vibes are really enjoyable and give the track a really interesting vibe. The build-up is also incredible, really building excitement. The drops themselves are really great, the first drop has amazing sound design, composition, and ideas all wrapped into one groovy package, and the other drops keep the vibe going well, even if they aren't nearly as good as the god-like first drop. Really great track.
Overall this comp is just straight-up amazing, and definitely one of the best XL compilations of all time. As I alluded to at the beginning, I also really like how its paced and assembled, with the middle of the comp being more ethereal and surreal, while the beginning and end of the comp are more based in reality, giving the comp a really nice arc overall. I also really like how the live show influences from the first track return for the last track, it ties everything together really well. I could praise this comp all day, Oddprophet did a top job picking and assembling this comp, and it's no doubt on of my favourite comps of the year so far.
I know I’m late 😭

Kill feed killed it with his track
Killed our ears.
honestly thought that JoeBs track couldnt be beaten, but then... kill feeds track gets released. its soo insane, hits hard and is incredibly unique
Trvcy’s tune is absolutely mad. I think this is my favourite Black Label compilation of all time
Agree
El poder argentino (The Argentinian Power)
If you ask me, this is the best Black Label XL comp yet! I liked almost every song on here.
My favourites were Chainshot, Shiver, and all three Oddprophet songs.
Surprised by the trvcy one! I just love the jazz midsection, it feels like hes stepping out of his comfort zone
I could have sworn I heard the drops already tho because all of TRVCY’s drops sound the same
Kill feed really killed feeds
Disassociation is my favorite by far, it’s CRAZY!
The whole idea of Close My Eyes by Aweminus I feel is so profund, the man saying that he's allucinating and the concept around this story is what i find so interesting about it
I wasn't too impressed by the teaser, but after hearing all these in full, there's not a single one I really dislike. Really solid compilation, definitely the best XL so far.
Vauxhall Tearout - Not exactly my speed musically but I can't deny some solid production when I hear it. Sample gets me every time.
Evolved - Nothing new for Badklaat, but its pulled off with style. His best track of the year by far, definitely one of my favorites.
Chainshot - What can you say about JoeB that hasn't been said already, man. He's got such a distinct sound and it really shows here, so glad to see him get included.
Back N' Forth - Solid production, great musicality in the intro. Doesn't grab me, but it's a welcome break in the album's progression.
great drop built around a super memorable riff. If this is the direction he wants to take his music going forward, I'm 100% behind it.
Close My Eyes - Aweminus is really hit or miss for me, but this is a BIG hit. Great control of atmosphere and feel, really swampy and alien. This is what I like in my riddim.
Shiver - Snare be damned, this might just be my favorite of the bunch. Blisteringly fast synths, compelling progression, and THAT BRIDGE. I admire the creativity that went into this so much.
Disgrace - I like my tunes with more melody than this, but the sample really carries it. Makes me uncomfortable in a good way.
Code Execution - You know what, I like it a lot. Production is definitely muddy and overblown, but that works in its favor as an emotional experience. Gives me STUCA vibes a bit, and that's a good thing.
Reload - Sharp, controlled, great energy, good note to close the comp on. I enjoy the smorgasbord of snares on offer, keeps it lively.
TRVCY’s track is unique af, love it!
Absolutely love Reload! Listen to it on UKF Dubstep and so much hype and energy, just very well done! Graphyt and Diskirz did not disappoint me. My favorite track off the Xl 7 Compilation IMO And definitely one of my favorite tracks of 2020
My favorites are
3-Close My Eyes
2-Disassociation
1-Back N Forth
This whole compilation is sick though, I’m vibing with every song here.
Loved the compilation, all of it is going to my playlist.
My top 3:
1. Oddprophet - Disassociation
2. TRVCY - Shiver
3. Kill Feed - Back n' Forth
My only dissapointment would be Aweminus' track, not bad but it brings nothing new at all, pretty basic from a beast of a producer.
Somebody make a remix of Nawtystep coughing
Eliminiminiminaayte
@@x_no_where eliminate would definitely do something like that lol
Disassociation sounds like melodic tearout was invented
Love these Live Reviews, mate. Every tune by Oddprophet on this is monstrous. The first drop in Shiver is one of my favourites on the EP but not a big fan of the rest of the track. Overall, a huge EP I looked forward to and wasn't disappointed
vauxhall tearout is probably my favorite dubstep track of 2020 by a long shot
Hey Connor, just wondering if you had any plans for the subsidia 120+ tracks dropping tommorow?
Planning to do a live stream party on Tuesday, likely on the Discord
TRVCY killed everything; best tune of the compilation
sick review
Waxhall tearout and close my eyes are my favorite.
Yo Connor, shout-out to this video!
Tomorrow, you should live stream a reaction compilation of Subsidia Records 120+ debut tracks.
Just a suggestion ☺️😃
Isnt there going to be a listening session on the discord
@@unfamiliartunes i heard of it. I dont know tho, dont quote me
It's 120+ tracks?
@@fallenxvn yes
That's what I'm planning on doing tomorrow (Tuesday)! Will be on the Discord and not the YT channel atm. If I did an actual video covering that much music I would honestly have to sleep for a week
This was a really really good album! I especially loved Reload! Such a great change-up! :D
You should do a live reaction of the new Vision compilation
I actually contemplated it but it's very long and I don't think many would watch the video. It's the kind of live review I'll be doing in a year or so from now when the audience is a little bigger, which I think you'll understand
@@Nawtystep That's fair
Honestly the "ARE YOU FUCKING MAD?!" in Vauxhall Tearout made my year lmao
Going to have to say that this is my favourite Vol from BL. I feel like the ideas and executions are just great on this one and I find myself enjoying all of them in some way. My favourites would have to be 'Vauxhall Tearout' 'Chainshot' 'Dissasociation' and 'Back and Forth'.
My top 3
3.- Kill Feed - Back and Forth
2.- Oddprophet - Disgrace
1.- TRVCY - Shiver
Why isn't Disassociation or Chainshot on here lol
Connor wants svdden death synths in all dubstep basically
svdden death synths and metallic deathstep snares
70bpm nü acid techno
Don't even know where this kind of comment comes from to be honest
he seems to like melodic, chill dubstep too though
My personal fav of the list is Disassociation 🧡
Nice video mate, are you going to do a live reaction for the Au5 & Chime collab that's been released on Monstercat ? Or what your thoughts on it if you've already listened to it?
The chime and HelaSex collab would be a good choice as well.
@@jacksonjames6071 Yes indeed
I’m just waiting for you talk to about subsidia excision new label
Hey! Could you possibly do live reactions for excision new label that came out today? That would be great 👀👌
anyone remembers the wtf marauda remix vs aweminus in lost lands 2019??
Vauxhall's speakers are prepared for this track
I think a Teminite and Oddprophet collab would be interesting.
Back N Fourth = Bestttttt
That Aweminus track was next level
Oliverse remix of disassociation anyone?
You’re the second person that says this😂
Of course all the NSD all stars 💯But…JoeB fans where you at? 😤
Gotchu man
@@omniscientkind871 Yeaaaahhh!
The Badklaat track is my fav
Disassociation and Shiver made me suffer from whiplash
u should do feedback streams in the future like a dollar for a hard listen stream for like an hour make some beer money lol
28:50 Huh, interesting. You pretty much only had positive things to say, while mentioning some things could be better, but at the end, the compilation is suddenly only 50% good to you? Hmm.
KILL FEED EEEEEEEEEEE
720p? Come on bro ...
Disassociation should have swapped its drops.
And Back N' Forth is the best track on the comp.
Not nearly as memorable as XL 6, which felt like an event more than just another comp, but even on its own merits, XL 7 feels very lacking in overall finesse and originality.
It's almost like it's saying something about the state of mainstream dubstep right now. But that can't be it, right? I wish there were a large-scale mainstream compilation, or three, that could showcase how truly stale the scene is becoming.
Oh wait, Subsidia, right. Yeah, dubstep's pretty much fucked lol.
Yea but it's Black Label. It certainly has its gems, but i'd say the Never Say Die releases showcase the direction of dubstep better. Black Label is kinda "constricted"? imo.
@@REBACK7 I'm jut kinda disillusioned with NSD in general at this point, they have L.U.X, Akeos, Nitepunk, and really that's it; so much time wasting when they could be giving the spotlight to literally hundreds of better talents that can't get label releases right now.
@@JasTheFagge still better than disciple who restraints their artists from thinking out of the box.
can you review oddprophets remix of Heart Break - Moody Good x SLANDER?? pls
