    Thank you for all the subscriptions. These episodes are not a how-to on making your bike go faster. Everyone has different needs and criteria on what they want out of their bikes. For me, I ride this bike primarily to work in stop & go traffic and in mostly ideal condition without rain, dust or snow. These videos serve as a documentary on how my 50cc Piaggio Typhoon 2-stroke scooter doubled it's acceleration and increased top speed from 30mph to ~60mph with just a few simple mods - most of them are free and only requires a bit of understanding how a scooter works.
    This video is filmed on exactly the same stretch of road. The weather was slightly different by 2 degrees before and after the modifications but the difference in performance is significant and evident. The bike pulls much harder now and gets to top speed quickly for a 50cc standard. With just a few simple mods, this bike has became a lot funner and even somewhat sketchy on those 10" nearly 10 year old tires. Stay tuned for further updates to handling, aesthetic, and even more performance modification to the 2005 Piaggio/NRG Typhoon!
    In this video, I also demonstrate that the rule you always read from scooter tuners regarding "lighter weight=acceleration, heavier weight=top speed" is far from the truth. While it indeed holds validity to some extent, this video shows you how going down to a lighter weight and in this case the more optimal roller weight setup for this engine, this environment, and this scenario will yield BOTH improved acceleration AND top speed. The common misconception that selection of rollers weights for one or the other is not entirely true.
    Most manufacturer install stock roller weights that are far too heavy to optimize fuel economy and engine longevity with performance.. It turns out Piaggio uses 6.5g stock roller weights in this 2005 Piaggio Typhoon. Leo Vince supplies 5.8g weights so might as well give it a try before I purchase even lighter roller weights! Piaggio report this engine makes peak horsepower at 9500RPM. With that said however, Leo Vince never really supplied any information at which optimal RPM this expansion chamber exhaust pipe is designed for.
    Hope you find this video helpful and please like & subscribe for further scooter tuning videos!
    If you want your bike to bury the speedo needle like ours did in Episode 1, subscribe and stay tuned for future episodes. We will show you how we derestrict the bike from factory, install the Leo Vince ZXR exhaust, open up the intake, and modify the transmission. Come along with us as we transform this little 50cc scooter from a slow and boring bike to a fast and peppy machine that will do circles around traffic!
    Other bikes that shares the same platform/engine includes Vespa, Piaggio, Aprilia, Peugot, Gilera, TPH, Typhoon, LT50, LX50, ET50, Scarabeo, Stalker, Zip, Fly, etc.

      Thank John for watching the videos and sharing your thoughts on tuning! I think its about time I turn my attention back to the 150cc Ruckus!

      FIFTYmil Excuse me, 150cc?? Didn't know you were doing a swap! That's awesome!! My chick wants to get a Miata in the spring so might have to put the scooter tuning aside for a while and focus on that :)

      Yeah the other ruckus haha - been neglecting it for a while! I always wanted to get something economical for track days. A Miata would be perfect if I could find one that hasn't gone through a beat down already!

    if youre still active, do u know what us wrong with my keeway fact moped? it starts and works well with cold engine, but when it gets warm and i turn it off and try to start it, its a hell. takes maany kicks. im desperate little help :D?

    • @FIFTYmil
      @FIFTYmil  6 років тому

      Assuming it has a autochoke, the symptoms you presented suggest that your jetting is too lean as one plausible explanation. That is because when the moped is warmed up, the autochoke closes and less fuel is delivered to the engine making it difficult to start.
      If my hypothesis is correct, try to partially block the intake to prevent as much air entering the engine and see if it makes starting easier.

    Hey nice Video :)
    Im from Germany and i think the scooter scene is here bigger than in America. Anyway do you know the Yamaha Aerox?

    • @FIFTYmil
      @FIFTYmil  7 років тому

      Thanks! Scooter scene is much bigger in Europe and it is my dream to share knowledge with European tuners abroad. I love the Aerox! Unfortunately they don't sell them here.

    • @aeroxgermany3710
      @aeroxgermany3710 7 років тому

      FIFTYmil Hm in Germany every 2nd scooter rider drives an aerox :D
      But i have a question is ist legal to tune a scooter in america? in germany you are only allowed do drive an 45 km/h restricted scooter. When you derestrict it you get in trouble because driving without license. :/

    • @FIFTYmil
      @FIFTYmil  7 років тому +1

      It is never legal to modify a OEM vehicle mostly everywhere in the world. However, in north america the police hardly knows or is concerned about scooters because there are so little of them on the road. I know that in Europe for example the Honda Zoomer is restricted to 45km/h. How tragic!

      FIFTYmil Resricted to 45 ?
      That just doesn't sound healthy for the scooter..

      korohone I was thinking the same thing, mines derestricted from 30mph/50kmph to 45mph/75kmph, and it runs so much more smoother than it used to and a lot more fun

    I have Aprilia Mojito Custom 50cc 2T Piaggio engine, equiped with 17.5 dellorto PHVA with 65main jet, mallosi red sponge, BR ES 9 spark plug, 5.5g mallosi roller weights, derestricted Sito Plus exhaust system. Only have 40mph top speed (GPS tested). What should i do next to gain more top speed? acceleration is quite good.

    • @FIFTYmil
      @FIFTYmil  6 років тому

      Define quite good acceleration. What is your 0-30mph time? 40mph seems rather slow for the mods you listed. I have nearly the same mods (in fact, less than you) and I am achieving near 60mph.

    • @mantasjasukaitis1139
      @mantasjasukaitis1139 6 років тому

      Not teste 0-30mph time, but it runs strong. Yesterday lovered needle clip 1 notch, put 80 main jet, modified airbox (like in your videos), top speed increased only 2mph. Maybe my reed valve is restricted? What gap should be between reed petal and stop plate end?

    • @FIFTYmil
      @FIFTYmil  6 років тому

      Sorry I can't help you as I don't know what strong acceleration mean. What you define strong acceleration may be weak for me, or vice versa. My best advice is to revert everything to stock and document each modification step by step to maximize gain from each mod.

    How can I increase 200cc scooter top speed?

    • @FIFTYmil
      @FIFTYmil  5 років тому

      If you're sure your 200cc is making all the power available, then you would modify the gearing to achieve more top speed if your engine is running out of gearing ratios.

  • @minor0confusion
    @minor0confusion 7 років тому +6

    your rollers are still half a gram too heavy, and you SERIOUSLY need a 70 kit!!!! like SERIOUSLY. then you will find you need a gear up, badly, as you reach the top of the gearing and over rev the hell out of the engine. if you watch/listen, you first set off, the clutch is perfect, then as the clutch lets go, you get a sudden lift in revs, thats transfer to the variator and a fully locked clutch, your rollers then proceed up the ramps too fast (too heavy) as your revs drop as your speed climbs, untill you reach the top of the ramp, your at full extention on the variator and your at too low an rpm, so to go faster your engine then climbs rpm, in a fixed gear.... so drop a lil weight off the rollers. i am subscribed, im not trying to be a dick, im trying to help, as nobody puts vids of this stuff up and i REALLY cant be arsed

    • @FIFTYmil
      @FIFTYmil  7 років тому +3

      minor0confusion thanks - certainly planning to go lighter weights if I stay with a 50 and also test out slider weights if I can find some that are not so overpriced like dr. Pulleys. But I'm currently looking into details on importing a liquid cooled motor from Europe for this bike so probably the budget will go towards that engine instead

      FIFTYmil hey man.
      love the vids bro.
      couple of questions.
      a derestricted 50cc with 10" wheels runs out of rpm at about 65-70 kph down a hill, gearing and small wheels will not allow it to go faster. top speed is affected by gearin, wheel size, pully size and travel of belt on said pully.
      jets exhaust carb derestriction rollers ect all helps massively with take off.
      Please tell me how you got so much more top speed. because without gearing change (pully, final drive) i can not understand where the 20+ kph top end came from. i want to increase my top end and you clearly have im not trying to be an a$$ i just really need your help. thanks

    • @FIFTYmil
      @FIFTYmil  7 років тому

      Pierre Ross Pierre that is a very good question and logical assumption. As every bike has a different final drive, tire diameter for a 10" wheel, and also different hp output, I would like to know how did you calculate that a hi-per2 engine on a piaggio typhoon max out at 70kph? Which bike do you have?
      So to answer your question in short, it depends on the particular bike. The piaggio 50cc hi-per2 engine and final drive permits 90+kph at 9480RPM on 5.8g weights after increasing horsepower through several modifications documented in my series. The same can not be said on my 50cc Honda Ruckus. I am only getting 85kph at 10,800RPM. Changing the final drive to the taller Honda Metropolitan/Jazz will see the same top speed at a lower RPM, provided there is enough power to achieve those speeds. Does that make sense?
