  • Hello Everyone, welcome to my latest video which comes from the West Coast Main Line at Lancaster Station (which was formerly known as Lancaster Castle Railway Station). It originally opened in September 1846 and was constructed by William Tite who also designed the nearby stations at Oxenholme, Carnforth, and Carlisle. The style of the 1852 extension uses pseudo-battlements to try and match Lancaster Castle which overlooks the station. Lancaster is served by several train operators and I was pleased to see a very good variety of trains on the day of my visit. Following in the footsteps of my Victorian Railway Handbook, I visited the Priory Church of St Mary’s along with the adjacent Lancaster Castle and it was fascinating to learn more about its 1,000 years of heritage, history, justice, felony and incarceration. I hope you enjoy the video.
