Excellent idea and design. I would like to suggest you cover the tops of the bookcases with some easily cleanable surface or comfortable/replacable fabric for the cat's comfort. the dollar store has these doormats or placemats . the tops of the books will be protected from dust, vomit and cat hair.

Book shelves always add a nice touch to your home. Great job.

I like that you also discussed ideas you initially had but decided not to go with (like floating shelves and no spacing between crates) because it give me more things to consider as I decide to set my crates up. For example, I might have stacked my crates on top of each other, but hearing you mention why you didn't do that made me quickly realize why I probably shouldn't do it that way.
I absolutely love this idea, functional in various ways and aesthetically pleasing! I’ve watched a million diy videos on this and am for sure going with this one. The result was great and flows with the rest of the room, which can be hard to do with pet furniture. You’re very creative! I’ll probably use a few shelves as personal storage like you did and keep cute fluffy blankets in the others. Bright idea, thank you for sharing!
Thank you Adrienne, it made me so happy that you found this video helpful! 😄One thing I didn’t mention in the video, was that when you install the shelves to the wall, make sure to attach at least one screw to the stud, you can use the stud finder to locate the studs behind the drywall, this will make the shelves super strong on the wall. Also, just fyi- my hardback books ripped some of the staples out of the slatted boards on the sides so I’ll be drilling holes and adding screws this time to keep the slats in place. I don’t mind some of my books falling- okay I do- total bibliophile! lol. But, I can replace my books. Not my cat.
Thank you so much❤️, I’ve been thinking about that😅 I knew I screwed the nails to the stud on the main wall, but the pantry wall doesn’t have stud, I will take your advice to add some brackets on the bottom of the crates, to give it extra support and reduce the weights of the books.
Hi Lauren, it’s been holding up very well. As the books are very heavy, I think the best way to install the crates is to screw the nails directly into the studs, you can use the stud finder to help you locate the studs behind the wall. The crates themselves have no problems at all.

I feed them with Blue Buffalo wilderness natural adult high protein grain free chicken dry food, this is their favorite food. I’ve tried to give them some can food for dinner, but they didn’t seem to be interested 😹
Great idea. I paint and I was thinking of putting up shelves n put a painting under each shelf. Just don’t know how well that will look. Anyway it goes my boy is getting as many wall climbing things I can afford. Thanks for the ideas. It looks great.❤
