Fantastic video by two of my all time favorite You Tube detailing content creators. I’ve loved Nick’s videos and good to see him making new content - you guys mesh wonderfully. Here’s hoping to many more! 🥂🍾👊🏽
I have been using a rotary for 45 years and agree 100%. I just did my own test not one week ago. I went over 1/2 my hood with a very expense DA, and it left MORE micro scratches with a brand new black pad then my rotary with the same pad and polish. I never understood why until I searched and found this video. Interesting about Europe referencing DA’s as toys, because that was what I was thinking when I tried one. For me personally, it is marketing hype for people not willing to learn the correct polishing methods with a rotary.
I learned to polish w/ a Dewalt rotary. I still use a Dewalt rotary 20 plus years later. I did try a Da - it works, but the rotary is faster & achieves superior results for me.
Great video! I was wondering if you planned on doing a video on interior efficiency (showing the process). I watched your video where you talk about it, but it would really help to understand if you recorded yourself doing it, thanks!

Is it the same with a boat gel coat using a rotary, ie, low pressure, machine doing the work, for cutting as well as finishing? It’s also about technique I think as my then 15-year old son got better results than me on our boat 4 years ago when we hand polished - I was happy about that one!
Hi guys, thanks got a great video!, learned a lot. @Yvan, around 14:45, you mention you use liuqid spray polish. What are some of your favorites? Thanks!
Wow I could listen to this all day and still keep learning. I remember I burnt through the paint on a plastic trim using a 8mm dual action polisher the first time I used one. I definitely learned my lesson about looking cool using the polisher. Thank you for this amazing video.
Hi Yvan, If I use the DIY Waffle with a DA would you recommend to finish using a rotary with a LC Black Waffle or the Blue for finnese? Thank for your time.
@@Detailers-Business-Academy well..must say I'm completely blown away...spent years convinced I couldn't finish with a rotary..today I proved that wrong and the depth of gloss and clarity are impressive. Thank you
do you mist the paint before using the wool pad like you do on gel coat or do you get the wool pad clean and wet with your bucket like you do the foam pads?
Really really interesting. Thank you both for your time. Please, on question.. what is use for the other speeds of rotary? I want mean, If the more speed decrease the cut, why don't you use more speed for getting better finish? By the way, the minimun speed of my AEG PE150 is 900rpm. Thank you again.
So for someone who has always used a DA for correction and polishing what do you recommend doing to start using the rotary? Cut with a DA and finish with the rotary, cut with rotary and finish with the DA, or just eliminate the DA and use the rotary for both?
Awesome video and very informative. For paint enhancement and one steps do you find that the rotary or dual action give better results as far as cut and finishing down?
Wow! I learn soo much listening to Yvan and Nick as well. I had a question though If the Rotary is the Favored tool, with I'm assuming a 7inch or 6 inch pad.......... what do you use for those smaller, narror panels?? Those tight spots? Then is it recommended to use a 3inch DA polisher??? I'm just wondering, I'm fairly new to paint correction.
I rarely use a pad smaller than 6 inches, with the proper angle it can fit almost anywhere. With a rotary you can easily change the backing plate to any size you desire.
@@Detailers-Business-Academy ooh OK wow that must take a decent amount of skill to do. I admire your skill set. Im a beginner. I have gotten some pretty good results from my da. Im going to get the Milwaukee m18 cordless rotary here very soon and start working with it.
I typically cut with a DA, it’s faster, but finish with the Rotary. The process for cutting and finishing with a rotary is the same, slow, flat and clean. ua-cam.com/video/xNPHwtLr4Eo/v-deo.html
It’s good, I also like McKee’s 37 spray correction polish, and you can put a sprayer on their coating prep polish. Also I’m developing a spray polish at DIYdetail.com
Thanks for the videos. I’m just a amateur who follows and wants to work on the cars. If I wanted to simply wax what should I use the DA or Rotary? Also what pad Should I get with whatever you recommend. Based on your videos I want to get the rotary unless you think it’s a bad idea. I would like to get into polishing and one steps in the future . I think I have the method down at least in theory!
This is why I have stuck to Forced Rotation DA polisher with 5mm throw and rotary polisher I get a better finish even with a forced rotation DA polisher like the Makita PO 6000C and Rupes Big Foot LKR 900E. I get perfect finish with either rotary or forced rotation DA polisher!
Your happiness or frustration with any type of machine, totally depends on the type of clearcoat you’re working on. On many China-made EVs, theres 99% no marring (but you’re creating great gloss) while cutting with a Rotary + big 4ply wool pad + certain types of compounds including Meguiars classic No85. Its virtually 100% clear (after an APC soak and rinse). Amazing. But on many Japanese cars factory clears, such a combo will produce horrendous marring/swirling that requires many further rounds to finesse. Hence, a genuine professional detailer is perfectly comfortable with both Rotary and DA, and based on the colour and type of clearcoat, he/she knows how to “READ” the paintwork (instead of working blindly) and knows how to combine both machines to obtain the desired results based on the TIME constraints, PRICE charged and COST of the job.
Great video again! I definitely havn't 'mastered' the rotary yet, but do have some experience. It's difficult to get a hologram free finish for me, but it's a nice smooth and quiet experience. Anyway, like Yvan said, for me nothing comes close in cutting power to 21mm DA. I use a Zentool 21e2, Rupes Blue wool, Optimum polishes and the system 4000. Compared to a rotary with the big wool pads and Menzerna 400, it's way more powerful, but can still finish down. The Rupes wool is actually the only pad I use, even on gloss black, with just minor micro-marring. I've tried a bunch of combo's of pads, polishers, compounds and techniques. But nothing has worked like the one above. Of course always looking to improve and find something better! And there's something about a rotary that peaks my interest. Maybe with the right pad/compound/technique combo it would cut more!
I bought 2 DA's to do my truck, a 3 inch and a 6 inch, plus a bunch of pads and products. I just didn't like the result. 2 weeks ago, I decided fu#k it, I'm going to buy a rotary for $60 and try it. Everything I was reading about rotary was scary but I was going to try it anyway. I used the orange waffle pad that came with the rotary, sonax perfect finish, and 600 RPM. HOLY SH!T!!! SOOOO much better and faster. I'm absolutely sold on using a rotary now and my truck is looking better than ever now. I love it! The rotary has a consistent and greater surface speed versus a DA.
@@Detailers-Business-Academy i have corded rotary already, which 21mm would you recommend? Cordless milwakee , rupes 21 iii , cordless rupes 21 when it comes out? im not in a rush ( and i dont have milwakee tools already so would have to buy batteries for that too)
Yvan I agree 100% if finish rotary it definitely looks glossier. What I always have thought though about DA cutting is that is sucks having to downsize machines to really get edges good etc. and I love cutting on rotary for that reason but hate that it usually requires more follow up steps. However, I watched a 3d guy basically do wool cut, medium foam compound cut again, then black foam low speed on a polish and it was immaculate. In a normal “two stage enhancement” type detail IE step one cut and step 2 polish, is your position (opinion) that even though you have to downsize machines to do really good edge work on some cars that it is still worth it to do all DA cut?
@@Detailers-Business-Academy even on bumpers and all that you still cut 6 inch? Also, my goal is definitely to increase my efficiency, much like hawk pro, I spend way too much time on cars and I’m looking to cut it as much as possible while simultaneously giving awesome results. It sounds like the thin blue rupes foam wool on da combined with the black waffle pad on rotary is the way to do that. I know you recommend a spray polish but I do need to use up several gallons of 3d compounds and polish which I think are also great.
You mentioned using a spray product. Was that a spray compound or wax? I had to laugh 'cause I sling stuff all over panels and windows. Can you mention here what that product was you were using?
