Carlos Santana combined Latin American music with Rock like no other musician could! Not before! Not after! And, he's stayed true to his way of making music to this day!
You absolutely get it!🥰🥰🥰 I was 17 in '69 and Santana was like no one else with his mix of jazz, rock, soul and Latin music. Try to find the long version. The drum solo is at least 2 minutes longer. I love it when young people discover the great music that I came of age with.
Santana was told they would not go on until after midnight. Carlos did the math and figured he would come down by then from the acid the band was offered. Shortly after they took it, they were told they were on next!! You saw the results!! A musical masterpiece. By the way, you played the shorter version of the song. The long version has a much longer drum solo!! Glad you liked it. I was almost 15 when Woodstock "happened" in August 1969. The crowd was estimated at 500,000. You were correct. Joe Cocker was also one of the amazing acts that played Woodstock!
Thank you Sarah, this was a blast of happiness just when I needed it! 😊😁 The drummer extraordinaire, Michael Shrive, was a mere 19 years old at that festival! Yes, that was the Woodstock festival in 1969. Also highly recommended is Ten Years After performing "I'm Going Home", also from Woodstock. Just wear seatbelts if you react to that performance 😂 Appreciate you as always, stay well and keep dancing ❤💓😎😇
I don't know if you know about Woodstock , it was THE GREATEST ALL TIME MUSICAL FESTIVAL ,attended by hundreds of thousands of people and featuring some of the best rock and roll bands of all time . My cousin tried to get me to go up there with him ,but I was married with 3 kids and another on the way ,even though I was only 24 . I didn't go ,but he did and came back muddy from head to toe and still coming down from all of the acid he had dropped up there, but he LOVED it .
Great live performance! Santana is an American Latin rock band formed in 1966 by Mexican-American guitarist & songwriter Carlos Santana. They had a lot of great songs & instrumental rock tracks over the years such as "Jingo", "Evil Ways", "Black Magic Woman", "Samba Pa Ti", "Soul Sacrifice", "Oye Coma Va", "Everybody's Everything", "The Game Of Love", "Hope You're Feeling Better" etc. The song "Smooth" & "Maria Maria" were done later in 1999 & rejuvenated the career of Santana.
The whole movie is well worth watching. It seemed that every performer pulled out the very best they were capable of. The in between bits of the festivals show how we used to rock in the old days...😄👌👍 It was a special time...❤
HELLO SARAH welcome to the end of the 60s celebration & like 1,000,000 ears on that hill , this was the 1st time they played that song from their new record live
The Music of Santana was Joyous! It captured the Hearts of Fans of all types of music. Latin, Rock ,Soul, Jazz, Fusion., 50 + years later, it still lifts the Soul
Hi Sarah! This video is a much abridged version of the actual 9 min live performance by a peyote-fueled Santana... I think the only way to see the whole spectacular performance -- especially an unequalled drum solo by MichaelShrieve -- is on the over 3 hr long oscar winning Woodstock documentary, which also has, among many noteworthy performances, a 4 song medley by the incomparable JimiHendrix as it's final live act; def worth a streaming to see the counterculture at its peak!
Santana was a BAND. They used Carlos' name because it sounded cool, not because he was the leader. In the beginning, when they were at their best, it was a equal partnership. BTW, Gregg Rolie, (the organ player and lead vocalist), also was a founding member of Journey.
I DJ with vinyl 45's & had a young man ask if I had any drum & bass, I hesitated & said listen to the next track, it was "Soul Sacrifice". He loved it. I followed with "Persuasion" & told him to look Santana up on You tube. Keep doin' this Sarah, it is a joy to see you enjoying the music.
There's another performance from Woodstock well worth checking out. CSN - Suite Judy Blue Eyes. It was their first time playing together so they were more than a little nervous, but they quickly won the crowd over with this classic.
Woodstock was a 4-day (and night) music festival, and a lot of music acts performed during those 4 days and nights. A lot of people knocked down the fences, and went onto the farm property to watch the music festival for free. 500,000 people showed up from all over the Northeastern United States to attend the music festival. Because there were way too many people in attendance, there was not enough bathroom facilities, no drinking water, drug abuse was rampant, and thunderstorms turned the farm field into one giant mud pit. Nonetheless, the show went on, and an incredible musical experience was had by virtually everyone in attendance.
As many will say below, this performance rocketed Santana into American hearts in the '70s. You will like ALL of Santana's music. They had a unique sound that rocked Afro-Cuba rhythms. He has some great songs. If you try out 'Black Magic Woman' listen to the studio version and let it go into 'Oye Como Va'. One of the best rock transitions ever created!
It still amazes me that in 69' in the middle of a farm the quality of sound is what it is.This performance is one of the highlights of the 3 days. The crowd seems to go to the horizon.Nothing short of a miracle, these treasures of music
Great reaction 😃 I've been to many Santana concerts, the energy that he puts into his shows is amazing. 🎶 recommend "Black magic woman" also recommend his brother George's band Malo, song "Suavecito" Thank you Peace! 🙏
You need to watch the longer version with a longer drummer solo by 19 year old Michael Shrieves..his performance that day has been famous for the last 50 years. Didn't hurt that they were all high as kites too haha
I must have watched this performance at least a hundred times. Even after all these years it's still like a bomb going off in the head. It's great to see others who get it.
There is a version out there, somewhere, with the complete organ solo from this set. This has the part edited out where Gregg Rolie really goes percussive on the organ.
Just watched an interview of Carlos before this vidja. She should know that he was tripping balls at this performance. He didn't really want to, but somehow he was roped in.
Sarah, you would have fit right in as a member of the audience, dancing to this song, it's too bad you were born too late and missed one of the greatest concerts in history.
Fabuloso Santana. Para mí lo mejor del festival. Con su álbum debut 1969. En mismo año del Festival. Banda totalmente nueva. Y fueron de lo mejor. Pedazos de músico. Increíble 😊😊😊
They were mostly unknown at the time and took off after their Woodstock performance. When you can go watch the longer version of this. It's 9 plus minutes. Drum solo is amazing.
Although this Woodstock performance of Soul Sacrifice is iconic, I think the Tanglewood 1970 performance is far superior. Better guitar, keyboards and percussion, 13 minutes long. I saw Santana live twice in the 70's, they were a great live band.
Shame that most of the drum solo is edited out - masterful / powerful performance. I think this is the full version: ua-cam.com/video/xBG6IaSQCpU/v-deo.html&start_radio=1
you are playing the bad edited version, here is the full version...Santana:SOUL SACRIFICE:Woodstock Music Festival, August, 1969 ua-cam.com/video/xBG6IaSQCpU/v-deo.html
But this is the version that cut out most of the drum solo...another wimpy boy suggesting a lousy version of a great performance.... Garbage Rock radio screws up again

He was so high on mescaline! One of the greatest performances ever.
You need to hear the full 11 minute version of this performance
Yup why why why do the wimpy boys suggest the watered down version
Yes!!!! The Mike Shreve drum solo is incredible in that version.
I’ve been looking for the complete longer version of this video with the drummers time being longer than 2 minutes - TRULY AWESOME!!!!
Thank you Sarah, this was a blast of happiness just when I needed it! 😊😁

Haha thank you 😊
SUPERB PERFECTION SANTANA ALWAYS !!!
Watch Next From Woodstock..
Ten Years After !!!
Michael & Carlos were on hallucinogens at the time. Brilliant
Isn't it nice to see so many humans together enjoying each other and the wonder of life!!! We should all learn from this. It CAN be done!!!!

Woodstock got me through a hard time in my life.
HELLO SARAH welcome to the end of the 60s celebration & like 1,000,000 ears on that hill , this was the 1st time they played that song from their new record live
Santana was a band in a time before itself! Rock On Santana! Rock On! 🤘🤟✊🤙👊
Another great one from you, Sarah. Thank you, I sure enjoyed it.

Yup another Wimpie requester doing the watered down version

Carlos was all messed up on acid when Santana came on stage. He thought the guitar was a serpent and just held on. Great performance.
9.5.23. This performance put Santana🎸on the 💁🏻♂️map❗️
There's another performance from Woodstock well worth checking out. CSN - Suite Judy Blue Eyes. It was their first time playing together so they were more than a little nervous, but they quickly won the crowd over with this classic.
"WOW", is right. Loved watching you groove to this great performance !! Love you.
Woodstock was a 4-day (and night) music festival, and a lot of music acts performed during those 4 days and nights. After that show Jimi Hendrix told Carlos that his choice of notes where excellent. ❤

Awesome band!!!
Thanks for the great reaction, I had the pleasure to see them live twice and they really grove for a LONG time.
Have always enjoyed Santana! I got to see him several times at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay in Vegas!
Great stuff, and perfect indeed.
Bravo, great reaction. 👍👊😁
Supersonic music as carlos likes to say! He got that after watching cream come to san Francisco 😊
It still amazes me that in 69' in the middle of a farm the quality of sound is what it is.This performance is one of the highlights of the 3 days. The crowd seems to go to the horizon.Nothing short of a miracle, these treasures of music
I love it when the kids get into it.❤
Man I miss my youth!

Maybe, but it's not the complete performance. I don't think there is the complete performance
on youtube.

Just watched an interview of Carlos before this vidja. She should know that he was tripping balls at this performance. He didn't really want to, but somehow he was roped in.
Beat that for a live performance - still mesmerising and classic. Stoned Carlos thought his guitar was wriggling like a snake!
Wish I had a Time Machine so I could be in the audience.
Sarah, you would have fit right in as a member of the audience, dancing to this song, it's too bad you were born too late and missed one of the greatest concerts in history.
Yep we were awake we were stoned, but we were awake best time of my life. Yeah it’s Woodstock dear. it went on for days.
Amen Sister

Over 500,000 people were there.
You said it. The Drums, the drums, the drums☆
They were mostly unknown at the time and took off after their Woodstock performance. When you can go watch the longer version of this. It's 9 plus minutes. Drum solo is amazing.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😮😊
Santana had been given a massive dose of LSD and said his guitar seemed like a snake at times during this and still did a great job!
great video as always greetings from Uruguay ❤😊
You cut your hair. Looks good. You have a beautiful face.
suonano tutti in maniera incredibile, forse la rock band migliore di sempre
nice.....from stg
Another great song of Santana is called Oye Como va.
Carlos said he was so high the neck of his guitar was moving
Although this Woodstock performance of Soul Sacrifice is iconic, I think the Tanglewood 1970 performance is far superior. Better guitar, keyboards and percussion, 13 minutes long. I saw Santana live twice in the 70's, they were a great live band.
Agreed , better acoustics.
Totally agree...the Tanglewood concert is amazing. Just builds and builds on itself till the end.
I want you to listen to some Motown and tell me what you think.
You're more cute than my parakeet.
The real star of that performance was the drummer!
Michael Shrieve stole the show!
But they cut most of the drum solo out...
yeees is amazing and so perfect.... who is the stupid that edit this shorter version that ruin that perfection??
And this is the short version...
It is?! 😅
@SarahDengler
There's a 9 minute version. See fredkriss
Comment below.
Peace -

❣️❤💃🎸🎹🪘🎶💃❤️❣️
The drum solo has been shortened in this edit. Not good. There is a full Woodstock 9.50min version on you tube. Drum solo is a little over 3 mins.
Oh no....... you watched the dreaded "edited" version. Some schmuck cut out nearly the entire drum solo.
you are playing the bad edited version, here is the full version...Santana:SOUL SACRIFICE:Woodstock Music Festival, August, 1969 ua-cam.com/video/xBG6IaSQCpU/v-deo.html
And all the dude wos tripping on lsd santana thinks his gitare was a snake and the drummer dont remamder this gig at all😂
i thing the druguse was overrated. you saw Carlos had full control! he was pouring out from his devine spirit. you really dont need drugs to do that!
But this is the version that cut out most of the drum solo...another wimpy boy suggesting a lousy version of a great performance....
Garbage Rock radio screws up again
