pass this inspirational performance on, we need this now more than ever!!
Welcome! These musical clips are from a large video collection that is now being converted from VHS/Beta to digital. There is some viewing quality loss from the original video source due to the age of the tapes, but the performances are preserved and still a joy to view. I'm finding many lost performances from vintage R&B, Soul, Pop, Broadway, Cabaret and other performances. This channel will be the Ed Sullivan channel for the digital generation, something for everyone to enjoy. Many of the performances will be seen for the first time since they were originally televised. I will be adding many musical performances from a variety of sources that I hope you will enjoy. Please hit the like button if you can.
TERIFFIC SONG !!!! FABULOUS PERFORMANCE 🌹 ❤️ LOVED IT😊
This audience DIDN’T DESERVE HER!!! I would have lost my mind had I been there.
The applause was overwhelming appropriate, also back then we were more reserved than today's audiences.
She’s so underrated. This woman can sings, her voice is clear and strong. She’s has some really great songs.
One of the best female voices ever
Absolutely love the spunk, the energy, the enthusiasm, the hair, the look, the strut, the voice...What a woman!
Could not have described it better myself! Beautifully said!!
This is definitely an awesome song, ❤️ it and I definitely ❤her. This is the best dance 🎶 tune 🎼 ever
Ya think Melissa graduated from a school for performing arts? Her stage presence(and that stage was huge)strong beautiful voice that sounded just like the recording, personality and dance moves were on point! She also ENUNCIATED every word like a Broadway star. Great performance!!
THIS is how you fill an entire stage with just your presence and vocal chops. And, BOY, can Melissa do it! She is just throwin' it right out there!!
You can tell she's so happy performing this - the song is just bursting from the inside out like a saturation of sunshine!!
And, ONE HUNDRED PERCENT LIVE!!!
The entire package, and a full class act!
My favorite song of the 80's. This song was written especially for her, to express her awesome musical talent and stage presence for the time. She had to be dragged into singing it because she felt it was out of her genre since she was a ballad singer. Watch her mouth. Every word perfectly pronounced. 6 key changes back and forth. Boom! 6 weeks at the top of the charts and a Grammy.
Melissa really sold it here! At least the audience showed her some love at the end
This song is so awesome, what an amazing woman, ❤ her.
Melissa Manchester performing at the 10th Annual American Music Awards in 1983 which she hosted as well.
I remember taping this off the tv. I was in love with Melissa Manchester, Sheena Easton and Donna Summer in the early 80's!! I think I would've gone straight for any of them!!
Wow !!! I believe that’s her real voice . So beautiful
Spectacular
Yeah you can tell its def live and not lip synced like it is for shows like solid gold, American bandstand etc. Her Grammy performance is also on here and she sings live on that too. She also won a Grammy for this song as well.
She is actually singing live!
What a dynamite vocal and performance! She really sells the song 👏
Jaw dropped.....This is full on solo live vox performance!!! Badass.
No, it's not live. Good lipsyncing
Mario, her vocal is absolutely live.
@@Mario_N64 Um its 100% live. You can hear her struggle with some of the notes.
@@Mario_N64 MM is singing LIVE to a backing track
I always liked MM. I remember this when it was broadcast. The budget for supporting production wasn't anything like it is now - today there would be like 25 dancers and 8 musicians (all of whom would still be miming).
She's is so great
Electric!
Wow what a powerful voice, love this lady ❤️❤️
You can tell she’s been classically trained vocally Good solid vocal performance
So glad this wasn't lip-synced :-)
Yep when talent was a requirement for singing
Tiene un aire a la Sigourney Weaver. Que estupenda que es!! Y lo mejor que canta genial!!❤
My lord, thank you for posting this, thought it was lost forever. Ran across it searching for this song, I believe this was Melissa's live performance (no lip lynch for this lady) for being awarded the Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
I loved this performance for it's sheer joy. Melissa did it live WITHOUT dancers, a visible orchestra, lighting, audio effects or even a spotlight, just her, her voice & honest joy as she sang to that hugh auditorium filled with her entertainment peers. Solo, without accompaniment, many would have hesitated or choked. She pulled it off beautifully...
No... this is AMA
She's such a sweetie pie!! Love her!!!
What a woman, what a song! ❤ even the dancing , dressing, make up and hair are fabolous! 😊
I like especially the part of the song where she says: oohhh you should hurry...
brilliant Melissa had not seen her before, she has a very sustained voice, she is a star!
The great ones make look so easy.
Great performance to one of the best songs of all time! Should have been a #1 hit in every country in the world! Melissa rocks! What's up with the deadbeat audience? They should have all been on their feet clapping and Melissa didn't even lip sync, this is her really singing! Great job Melissa, you rock!
I still love this song, and love watching Melissa perform it.
I actually remember watching this on TV as a teen.
I love this song and Melissa Manchester.😊
The audience was boring, but this song and her would win a Grammy a fee months later. Melissa Manchester is old school gold!
What a fantastic performance!! In front of all her peers she was absolutely flawless!
This is CLASSIC..awesome, amazing performance..
Fearless stuff. Nobody goes out this alone today.
NICE
Did they tell the audience to play dead? Wtf! Love this song and she is up there having a great time even with the lame audience.
El público quedaron pasmados ante la hermosa Mellisa.
Wow! The audience is rather lackluster!
This was when awards show audiences were mainly industry types & other entertainers - not fans
Great performance ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
iin 1982 i was hoping that she was singing about a certain young ladiy's thoughts about me; sadly not quite the case but a memorable song and everything turned out all right as met wife 2 y later.. What a performance!!!!
Omg that audience zzzzzzz
That crowd was expecting funeral music not a lively energectic song that was presented to them .
I think I saw the band "Alabama's" lead singer clapping in the front row.
Love this song, but the audience is dead. She is great.
Yes, the audience didn't even get up and dance. I'd be thrilled to be seeing such a talent as Melissa Manchester!
Older audience and dressed too well to get up and shake it? Marilyn was into it at least
@@ctmagnus760 old my ass the audience is full of demons😂😂😭
That audience was deader than a Texas salad bar.
So much energy inI her preference here you could definitely tell the song was still new to her compared to her other preference of this song live I guess after away an artist get tired of singing the same tune over and over
The crowd is dead. Missy is a real trouper and pro. She is singing live on a 90 feet stage with no band
Not the whole crowd! Marilyn McCoo is clapping and singing along, god love her.
@@mikestevenson576 I get the impression Marilyn is a big fan of MM! I just finished watching an old episode of Solid Gold and Marilyn introduced Melissa for this same song and seemed to gush while doing it (clapping and smiling)! Something tells me they are friends in real life.
@@mikestevenson576I saw Marilyn McCoo clapping and singing along in the audience and they put her name on screen. They did the same with Kenny Loggins. Melissa Manchester and he had co-written the song,"Whenever I Call You Friend". Marilyn McCoo was co-host of "Solid Gold" with Rex Smith in early 1983, when this awards show aired. Marilyn had a long history in the music industry since the 1960s, beginning with The Hi-Fis, The Versatiles, and The Fifth Dinension. She just marked 54 years of marriage with Billy Davis Jr., whom she met with The Fifth Dinension. Everyone has gotten older. Melissa is 72, Marilyn is 79, Kenny is 76, and Billy is 85.
@@Mouse01011That could be. Marilyn McCoo is said to be a very friendly person in regular life. She has been married to the same man for 54 years. Melissa is 72, Marilyn is 79, Kenny is 76, and Billy is 85. Time has passed by. You mentioned an old episode of "Solid Gold". Do you mean as part of your own tape collection or on UA-cam? They do not sell even the DVDs. They did not make them.
When to see her few months ago at the concert in World Fair Theater Flushing NY. It's was awesome she still hit her note. Love her 💓
Such great energy!
What a smoking hot woman with a great personality and voice! Having to bear a room full of deadbeat zombies. Probably the same kind of people who would run to clean out store shelves if someone mentioned the word "virus".
Ahemmm. Virus. 🙄🤪
What does this have to do with the virus? 💀
Typical example of sheeple!
O M.G!!!❤❤❤
The 1983 American Music Awards...exactly one year before this show turned into the Michael Jackson Music Awards. 😂😂😂
Thank you for the date and show!
Nice Video
I love Melissa Manchester and this song. Does anyone else notice the similarity with her hair and look to @MarieOsmond?
Very '83
Marilyn McCoo is the only one that gets it! What a dead audience!
Awesome performance by Melissa Manchester!
She never really got her due she should have had more hits
Sorry millennials, no autotune here! All real, all talent.
AMEN!!
At 3:14 behind Kenny Loggins that is Stevie Nicks! So this must have been some music awards show or something....
I'm thinking maybe the 1983 Grammys?
Yep. And she won that might.
This is from the 10th Annual American Music Awards in 1983.
Ahhh maybe the 1983 American Music Awards! LIKE IT SAYS IN THE TITLE!!!
She looks so alone on that stage. It seems they should have had a band or dancers or something going on behind her for such a high energy song. And the audience acts like they asleep.
I see a lot of "early Celine Dion" in this video.
Sorry for asking. When, where, and for what occasion did Melissa perform? Thanks 🙏.
I'm thinking possibly the 1983 Grammy Awards?

Wow! Writes her music, lyrics, and songs. Unheard of nowadays.
