Just wanted to post a quick update. I heard from the seller of the bezel. (am-diver.com). "The adhesive we use is usually very good and is water resistant. Most likely, the problem is the watch glass which sits very high in your case. The watches we sell are carefully selected and this problem is very very rare. We had a post on Watchuseek about this issue. When you installed your bezel, the insert apparently went off in one place, but it was a matter of time to lose it completely." Very nice company, and excellent customer service. They are sending me a replacement insert.
It's a very tight fit. So it's possible I bumped it while installing, but I don't know. Its also raised on one edge where it meets the crystal, so only the inner area had the adhesive. When I put the new one on I decided to not take a chance. And just added extra adhesive. Seems rather solid now.
This is honestly the best watch review I've ever seen in my entire life. Your editing and narration, your expression of feelings, the soft flowing background music. Bravo my friend. You just earned a subscriber.
Thanks and welcome. It's been a while since I made this. If you get a chance to check out some of the newer videos let me know what you think. I often wonder if my style has changed since my earlier videos.
Well done brother. I enjoyed coming along with your vacation in the Bahamas. Love seeing Vostoks being put to good use. I think you should go back with the orange bezel insert. That had a pretty cool look.
Thanks. I think your right, the orange gives it a very nice look. I'll just have to see what others have used to bind it to the bezel. Right now I'm thinking some kind of epoxy.
I'm thinking your right. Earlier today I looked at it with the black bezel, and I thought it looked very Halloweeny. Now I cant get that out of my head.
I personally would have modified them after my trip, but I like your confidence in your watch repair skills. I bought a Komandirski 650546 24hr Tank watch. To me it's a tough Amphibian. I do have a base Komandirski submarine I just got and came with a NATO strap. I love it. Thanks for introducing me to the Vostok line. I ordered my first two on Amazon, but the 24hr from the Meramon website and will order all the rest from the factory website since you have a better selection and price is much cheaper and I find it enjoyable buying from another country
I actually like the black bezel with the lume! I think it makes it look very sporty and a bit more expensive and rugged! But I do like the orange but the black is still my first choice!
I have 10 Vostoks and as many bezels from am diver, never had a problem with their products whether diving swimming hunting or just manual work, glad they put it right for you.
Yah, I have no complaints. And I would order from them again. I eventually decided to be extra cautious, and added some extra adhesive to the new one. Thanks for Watchin!
The orange bezel looks the best, but if it's not up to underwater use there's not much point to it. I wonder whether Meranom's orange bezel (they have or had one) would be better. For the sum of your experience seems to be: Vostok factory parts are fine, no matter where installed, those from third-party suppliers not always.
The Orange bezel was a marked improvement from the original. However, with that strap I think the black bezel really makes strap quite striking and creates a great balance. So I would say keep the black bezel. Great instructional tips!
The black looks cool and I would’ve liked to see it on a black NATO- but with the strap you were running it on there’s no denying how good that bezel looks
I had a similar experience with one of my VOSTOK Amphibia and a SEIKO bezel. It was my impression that it was correctly installed but it became loose about 3 times. BUT, the last time I installed it, I heard a very strong and audible "click" sound, and it has been solid ever since even when swimming.
Yah, they can sometimes trick you. If the wire isn't quite fed right around the inside of the bezel, or it goes down at a slight angle it gets tight, but not really on.
I have to say, I loved the orange bezel, and I would certainly order another 1 or 2 to replace it. But, that black bezel has a lot of functionality - especially in the dark. It's a nice choice as well. Thank you for sharing your experiences!
I've kept the orange one on there. I just love that look too much. Still have the black one, just not sure what I want to do with it. Been meaning to order another Vostok to use it with.
Thanks to your persuasive video, I am now a new owner of an Orange Scuba Dude. I hooked it to a set of Marathon rubber strap and it looks like a million bucks. It has become my daily companion.
I am a Vostok fan, and like to fit custom bezels to them. The entire bezel, not just the insert. The bezels are easy to get off but care should be taken on re-fitting one. The thin wire spring that holds the bezel on is bent into a shape like the pentagon, and sits in a thin groove on the inside of the bezel. Make sure that the wire is seated in the groove before trying to refit the bezel. If you do not take care of the wire spring, the bezel will not snap on, and you might bend the spring, which will prevent the bezel from staying in position.
Great report on your Amphibia. I too have one in the 420 case. It was the only one of three Vostoks that survived for me but it is a good one. Really good. I replaced the bezel with an all metal one reminiscent of the 1960s Bulova Snorkel diver so there was no insert to lose. I think you made the best choice with the orange insert. It makes the little scuba dude on the dial pop.
Yes, I would buy another. They are the most inexpensive fun you can with a watch. I tossed the failed ones but will be more sensible about throwing a broken watch in the trash. Next time I will simply get a new movement and try again.
Thank for sharing. Have several Vostok s well about 15 actually 😉 I don't participate in water sports but I have often wondered how they preform thanks for sharing 👍
I keep my Vostoks as supplied. I have a 710 ministry case black scuba dude on the original jubilee and a 710 blue sailboat dial on a reddish brown leather zulu strap. One for the water, one for the beach.
Whatever you eventually decided to do, I liked the “naked” look best. You might be surprised, but the minimal clutter really makes the Scuba Guy pop without using a Planet Ocean knock off.
Just ordered my first Amphibia. Looking forward to it. I actually was at Atlantis 2 months ago for a week and went diving with my Nautis Global Dive. Both watches are excellent for sure.
This was actually the last time I went diving. I was supposed to get a few trips in this summer, but with the outbreak that's all off. My collection has expanded quite a bit since this, so I was wondering what I would bring to dive with.
@@RelativeTime well if you want a proper nautical themed watch to add to the list the Nautis Global Dive is excellent. I have been maritime obsessed for over a decade and this watch fits the bill outstandingly. Another affordable one is the Geckota G-02. Different styles but both exquisite.
Nice! I saw Long Island Watch channel used some type of cement to glue the bezel inserts, maybe that's an option. I was thinking to just use a 3M sticker that most people use, but after watching this I might want a more permanent solution)
I think the issue with this one, and the 3m sticker is the shape. It's angled and curves up, so only 1/2 of the base is in contact with it. Which would allow water in to interact. I reattached the replacement with the 3m sticker, but then added some adhesive in that gap where it's not touching.
New subscriber here. I own two Vostoks and I purchsed a 3rd Radio Room in the 710 Ministry case for my son. I haven't field/water tested my Vostoks and it was nice to see someone put one to a dive test. As far as I can see it looks like you're the only person on youtube to do so. On the bezel issue. The black looks good but it seems the whole point of your orange graphics scuba dude dial with the orange NATO strap the orange bezel insert is to create a watch with plenty of panache. This watch would look good at the breakfast table on wrist drinking a glass of OJ...lol. Well done video.
LOL... Thanks! I guess I might be the only one on here. To be honest I'm surprised how well this video has done. It hasn't gone viral or anything. I just thought it would be fun and a little interesting. So when I uploaded it I thought I would get a few hundred views max. Guess more people were interested then I thought. I haven't tried the 710 case yet. I was thinking it might be a little big. But everyone seems to love it.
As far as looks go, that orange rocks! The black lines bezel looks good on it and is definitely coil, but that orange is the only way to go imo! I would just get another Orange insert and use some waterproof glue! I am going to get an orange amphibia like yours and copy what you had their, because I just like the way it stands out!
WOW!!!! The Black Bezel looks great. Can you suggest an Amphibia Diver Model that would make a great buy? I own three Vostok watches and I'm so proud that my Daughter who is a Scuba Diving Instructor in the Andaman Islands now wants one. for herself. She used my Vostok Amphibia 420380 SCUBA DUDE. Can you sugest a better watch with an eBay link? Your Video was awesome!!!!!
Thank you. Glad you liked it. Well there is a women’s amphibia line, I believe it’s case 051. But they are only wr to 100m. And if she’s an instructor best to stick to a regular amphibia at 200m. In which case I’d stick with the 420 case like she borrowed, it’s the smallest at 39mm. Weather you ultimately buy from eBay or meranom is up to you, but I’d start by looking at meranom, as they have everything displayed nicely. So you can see the different dials. meranom.com/en/amphibian-classic/420/ Some of the amphibia SE models are nice, but as far as I know, none come in a smaller case. As you know the scuba dude is always a classic, there is a turquoise scuba dude that my wife liked the look of. meranom.com/en/amphibian-classic/420/vostok-watch-amphibian-classic-420386.html Otherwise check out all the designs. As for eBay, I don’t have a seller there I recommend, but I have heard good things about zenitar. www.ebay.com/str/zenitarstore Hopefully that gives you a good place to start.
Enjoyed your viid... I have the Ministry version and have used it on a few shallow dives in Greece really can't fault it, I have left it as is even left the original metal strap on it. The strap is the jubilee type and much better than some of the ones on the other models, but the clasp is still a little crude. I find the bezel locks up pretty tight at depth and never had problems of it moving on me. No sign of any brassing on the crown so far, I actually wonder if it's stainless. Accuracy is pretty good plus 12-15 secs a day. I found leaving it at night crown up it keeps aforementioned. I have more faith in this watch than a Seiko SKX 007 my old Seiko sits in a draw, as the crown has ceased to screw in, this is the second one I have had and encountered the same problem. From my experience so far the Amphibia is an excellent workhorse diver.
Thanks! When I first bought mine, I didnt know anything about the different cases. I just picked it up because of the dial and the price is right. But I've learned more about the different styles, so I might have to get another one just to try a ministry case. I think most of the Amphibias by default come with brass crowns. But I've heard the factory is known for swapping parts if they run out of anything. I thought it was interesting that the rust appeared on my crown, right in the groove with the logo. So I'm curious next time I go, if it will happen again. Or perhaps just residue from the manufacturing process. Has the Seiko's grooves rusted? or just wore down so it wont screw in? Thanks again!
Thanks. That's the one I've kept on it. Although I just noticed Meranom has an orange bezel they didn't have before. meranom.com/en/amphibian-classic/spare-parts/bezels/vostok-amphibia-neptune-orange-universal-bezel.html
Nice mods, so the bezel came with insert already installed? I like the orange one, have a similar one on my Amphibia Scuba Dude, but with the numbers unpainted, just the stainless background. I got the new stainless bezel and insert from two different sources, and used rubber cement to install it. It fits very tight, the cement may not have been needed...
Yah it came together. I looked at a ton of different ones on ebay. A lot seemed to come with double sided 3m tape. I thought that buying it together as one piece, that they sellers would do a better job of gluing them together then I would. Guess I was wrong.
There's a video of a Finnish couple testing Vostok in their pressure chamber, its glass cracking only under pressure equivalent to 800 metres underwater. Impressive for such an inexpensive watch with an acrylic glass.
I remeber seeing it. If I remeber it right the movement stops a bit before that. Although it was still pretty impressive at around 500m. Pretty crazy for a inexpensive watch.
The Red Bezel from Meranom will also look great, that will match with the Red Seconds hand, and the Orange paint on the dial. Plus, all the mods will be from Meranom only :)
I almost ordered it as well. Looks like there are 2 different ones on meranom now. When I ordered the bezel I only saw the one, which didn't say it was compatible with my case. Evidently the 420 case is a little small for some parts.
Yes, not all parts are available for all case sizes. I too wanted a bezel for the 710 case but they don't make that type of bezel for the 710 case yet.
Great to see an amphibia on a dive. I ended up putting the gmt amphibia Neptune 960 with the black dial's movement in my 650539 and swapping the backs. Looks much better to have the 650539 in a case with a visually softer bezel. And the louder dial in my 650 with a Pepsi bezel.
Funny, I was just thinking about doing something similar. Love the look of the GMT Neptune. Especially the syringe hands. But not being able to swap bracelets easily on it's case would bother me.
@@RelativeTime they actually sell case end links for the 960 case so it can take a standard band/bracelet on meranom. Wish I saw them before I bought my notched Neptune strap from them. If you do this swap you can't swap the stems/crown though they are different legnths.
Great video(s)!! And a really interesting selection of watches you have there. For your Atlantis insert I would recommend using a strong superglue. Watch repairers generally use Krazy Glue to securely attach a bezel insert...
Thanks! I’ve got another orange insert in and back on the watch. It was a little loose on the bottom. So someone mentioned GS Hypo cement, and I tried it. So far seems good. But if it starts to come up, krazy glue is my next step. That or some kind of 2 part epoxy.
Great vid; very informative and fun to watch. Thanks for posting. 100% go with the orange bezel insert. It's just too cool to abandon. As for the reason they gave that your watch crystal somehow caused the problem, I'm dubious. Vostok "crystals" scratch pretty easy and any force great enough to pry up the edge of the insert would have almost certainly gouged the crystal and been instantly noticeable. It's nice that they are sending you another one free of charge, but I call BS on it being because of a ham handed install. As to the adhesive for the replacement insert? I'd suggest GS Hypo Cement. Salt water proof and forms a (semi) flexible bond so you can still get the insert out for replacement if/when it gets scratched up.
Thanks, and thanks for the suggestion. I'll look into Hydro Cement. I'm not sure on the reason they gave, but they seem nice and said there was a forum post about it on watchuseek. I'll have to check. This paticular insert is flat on the edge, and raised towards the middle. So only half of it is actually bonded to the metal. Gives it a nice look, but I can see how it "might" cause a small part to raise, and the rest would eventually go. So I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. But I'll test the new one, and keep an eye on it. Any play, and I'll use the hydro cement, or epoxy the heck out of it.
Thanks again for the GS Hypo cement suggestion. The new bezel insert arrived. When I applied it on, one small area at the bottom had a little play. That Hypo cement is great, with the needle nose applicator, it's easy to get in between the insert and and the bezel. Seems rock solid now.
Congratulations for the video presentation as much as for testing it !My opinion is what comes from the factory "as is" we let it that way!Perhaps without your "cosmetic" modifications would have no problems at all..Perhaps..
Perhaps it would. On most things I leave them as is (except for the bracelet or strap). I figure the designer knew what they were doing. As well as I'm more worried that if I screw something up, I just ruined what I spent good money on. But these amphibians are affordable enough I'm not too worried. Thanks and Cheers!
I like the Soviet design best. I don't wan to tell the babes, hey, look at my Russian watch I dressed up as a Japanese watch. Could just replace the red paint on the original bezel with orange paint. I've been disappointed with fading aluminum inserts on bezels of my Seiko, Cassio, and Bulova. So I am ready to embrace the chromed bezel of the first Vostok I have ordered.
Fading and wear is a good point. The chrome should hold up a little better. Otherwise Meranom does have some official Vostok Bezels that are Stainless Steel.
Vostoks are sadly underrated. Never let me down. Just got mt Amphibia Neptune from my eBay trusted seller koche-vikto from Russia. Thank you so much and I like your watch .
@@RelativeTime I like it a lot with a classy look. Yes the bracelet is hard to replace. I'm trying to find a Neptune Limited edition's bracelet for it.
Also, you can get a stainless aftermarket bezel retaining spring wire. The one I got is great, runs the full length of the bezel instead of only part as the stock brass ones do. All the brass OEM ones I had were no longer working for me, too loose no matter how I tried to adjust them.
I was using a brass wire, but currently got a steel one in the black bezel. Although I'm wondering if brass might be better if I plan on getting the watch wet. Since brass doesn't rust. Something I'll keep an eye on I guess.
Love the orange and black theme, very cool. Makes me want to buy several vostoks to play with mods... But where I'm from can't get an amphib in country for less that $100.... Is the amphib worth it at that price?
That's hard to say. They are fun, but that's more than a 50% increase. Although I've bought a couple Special Edition ones for that. How much can you get an Orient Mako or Ray for where you live?
8:34 Is that a montage issue or was there something wrong with the seconds hand? Greets from Russia, btw. I`m looking to buy an amphibia for myself idk why i prefered to watch english youtubers over russian ones.
A glitch in the video file. The original footage looks fine, but the software had a hiccup when making the final file. How much does an amphibia cost in Russia?
@@RelativeTime Oh, i see. Looked totally like a glitch in the matrix lmao. Well, it depends on where you buy. If you get it from some no-name store, it's going to be around $48 but usually price is around 50-55 bucks for ANY model(except SE ofc), yeah, whichever you like from classic lineup. On meranom its approximately $53 for anyone in Russia shipped. Bezels are still 15-25 bucks and north, so you're paying almost half the price of actual watch. But you have to consider cost of life and salaries here, it's not so cheap like it is for Americans or anyone from west for that matter. Still a great, great value watch. Nothing can beat it for the price. As far as your bezel goes, I'd remove 2 pieces from each other and glue them shut with some proper metal-to-metal glue, that should be fairly secure. I also have a small collection (10pcs) of different vintage Soviet watches collected from my relatives, but I'm scared to wear them, so they're on display only.
Hi! Would you please make your recommendations for an optional BEZEL color for Black Vostok watch dial, and for White as well. Maybe in some short vid. Thanks from Moscow Russia
What an interesting and fun video..thank you for that! $50 bucks for a new bezel?...ya gotta love your Amphibia. I don't know if I'd sink a fiddy into a 65-70 dollar watch. My minority-opinion: I like that slick black bezel. The orange is great, but I think it would get old after a while. Again, nice job!
Thanks a bunch. It was $45 when I ordered it, but he raised the price shortly after. Yah, it was a bit much for a cheaper watch. But I had some ebay bucks that were expiring. I was gonna get a vostok one off of merenom, but really wanted something orange. Thanks again.
Love your channel and share of experience. Ps: im a proud 24h vostok full moon owner because of you xd (full of scratches already, is there domed sapphire for vostok 420 case?)
Hi mate, awesome review. I’m looking at modding one out similar as I think it looks the business. What diameter bezel is it? Any specs on the bezel and ring so I can shop prior to it arriving? Keep up the brilliant reviews.
Thanks! Most Vostok's use the same bezels, so I believe they are 31mm ID, and 40mm Outer Diameter. Not sure on the specs for the insert without taking it out. Most aftermarket bezels are made to use Seiko SKX inserts.
Yup, i believe it's called galvanic corrosion. The chrome coating on the Bezel may help protect it a little from oxidation. But I much more concerned about the case rusting.
May I ask a question? I don't think I've come across anything Seiko on your channel, and as you are talking low end divers I wondered why you went with the Vostock as opposed to a Casio or a Seiko? I find people's choices very intriguing. There obviously isn't a right or wrong choice, it's subjective but I'd love to know.
Sure. Although I do have some Seiko's on my channel, and will have more in the future. But I'll explain that more in a sec. So the SKX is basically the gold standard when it comes to entry level dive watches. I've thought about getting one many times over the years. About a year before I started doing this I came close, but opted to get a Citizen NY0040-17L instead. Partially because I heard they were going to be phased out, and partially because I loved how the crown was on the left side of the body. I've shown that watch a few times, but never gave it it's own video. So when I decided to get the Vostok, part of that was influenced by having this channel. I had heard about them, and was interested. Plus I knew they had a big following. But I also really liked the idea of having a cheap watch that was a real deal diver that I could travel with and not worry in the slightest. When I travel, especially to Latin America, I try to pack light and not bring anything to flashy. But I've really come to love the uniqueness of it. As for a Casio, I'm guessing your talking about the duro. Would also make a great choice, especially with some mods. I do plan to pick one up at some point. But I chose the Vostok as I wanted an automatic, plus it had more credentials as a dive watch. As I said, I have had some Seikos, and plan to have more. But at first I was highly hesitant to review to many seikos. When starting out you don't have any subscribers, so most of your views come from people searching for something specific. So you have to balance picking a watch that people are interested in, but hasn't been done too much. Especially by bigger channels. My Orient Bambino video is a good example. Great watch, and I think I did a good job making it. But there are so many other videos, it doesn't get a lot of views. Although now I have a good subscriber base, it does free me up a little. Plus I've found that every Seiko video I do, does fairly well. My Seiko Bottle Cap video I did a few weeks ago, did really well. There are a couple lower end Seiko 5s I also want to cover soon, like the baby ice monster. But eventually I'd like to move up to the Samari, turtle, and tunas. Sorry if this got a little long. Cheers!
I have a Vostok on its way but I bought a citizen eco drive pro master diver as my go to but would love to get the Vostok wet I’m a retired police search and rescue diver and haven’t been in scuba gear in a long time ! But all these nice dive watches are making me want to go diving again!!
Does the metal movement ring not add anything to the watch at all? Like you I spotted it while buying a new bezel etc and bought it too. It was only a few pounds.
Not that I can tell. You don't see it, and it just holds the movement in place. It might last longer then the plastic one, but I think the plastic one will last for decades on it's own. But for the price, I figured why not. Good practice and learning experience tinkering on watches.
24h Display back sucks in a tool watch, plus there is nothing to show off - there are no embelishments on the movement. It is ugly, can smash and sits high, don’t do it comrades
I’ve got another orange insert finally . So it’s going to go back to that. It really is my favorite and plays well with the orange on the dial. Thanks for watching!
Thanks. I started doing this to teach myself video and audio editing. So I decided to be a little different and make more short films with lots of different shots and close ups. Although I love both their channels. Urban Gentry is extremely knowledgeable and well thought out. And Just 1 more watch is entertaining. That mans a machine, I don’t know how he can put out so many videos in a week.
Yup! A new orange one has been living on it since. Although i might swap back to the black for a little while next month. The black straps against that bezel made it look very Halloween .
Relative Time I was in the water, and just like you, came out of the water without a bezel insert attached. I will photograph it, and attempt to email it to am diver. Maybe they’ll send me a new bezel insert. There was a thing ring of adhesive left on the bezel where the old insert was at. Seemed like a very small amount of adhesive was placed on the original insert.
@@oldfashionedsportsmanchave4590 there isn't much adhesive. Especially as the ezel insert isn't flat. But curves upwards towards the crystal. That's why I injected some glue to fill up that dead space.
Russian watches primarily military are designed for all environments as the manufacturer does not know what they will be used in. Have seen "Atlantis," ads on TV. It is quite beautiful without hoards of tourists.
When I buy my vostok amphibian scuba dude I will keep the original bezel. Bracelet will be stored away. In its place: A NATO STRAP. Black with red stripe or Green with red stripe .
On a Vostok it's very easy. I'm honestly not sure how to change it on any other watch. But on a Vostok, just held on by tension from a single copper wire. You can see it better here. ua-cam.com/video/xPP7eqOfVhg/v-deo.html
I believe it's a 420380 . So it's the smaller 420 case. This is my original review if you want to see more of it. ua-cam.com/video/k2z_1dq2v5k/v-deo.html
Extra bezel, crown, back, springs for the same money you could have gotten a new Komandisrkie watch, just saying. Stop modding, buy a second Amphibia instead, an SE maybe, it already comes with the stainless steel and bezel “ upgrades” plus a special dial, case and strap, maybe special hands and back, depending on the model, they come and go relatively fast. In the case of a SE, don’t forget to print the product page from Meranom, this way you can prove in the future you have a collectible genuine factory Amphibia instead of a worthless modded one, I doubt there will be catalogues recording every historic SE model, for the price they go for it’s understandable.
I had always heard there was a big Vostok modding community. So for me, it was more getting the experience and trying it out. Plus I thought it could make an interesting video. I don't think I'll be doing much more modding, I usually prefer things stock. But I understand why some guys do. One of those, it's all about the journey not the destination kind of things. But your not wrong. Especially worthless part. All you have to do is look up SXK on ebay, and look at all the moded ones trying to be sold. Any idea how long they sell a Amphibia SE before they disappear?
The orange one is sold by am-diver on ebay, I think they are out of Germany. www.ebay.com/itm/Bezel-for-Vostok-Amphibia-and-AM-DIVER-US/352303541856?hash=item5206ed6e60:m:mx1co0LanGdXPEjGOt-zxyA I've actually contacted them asking about what glue / adhesive they use. So far havent heard back. the black pvd one is from bandukh on ebay. Out of New Orleans, LA. Although they have raised the prices since I bought it. www.ebay.com/itm/Vostok-Amphibian-Komandirskie-Custom-Steel-Bezel-Black-PVD-Glow-Luminous-Indexes/201840081834?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
Just wanted to post a quick update. I heard from the seller of the bezel. (am-diver.com). "The adhesive we use is usually very good and is water resistant. Most likely, the problem is the watch glass which sits very high in your case. The watches we sell are carefully selected and this problem is very very rare. Very nice company, and excellent customer service. They are sending me a replacement insert.
Like Jorn I am skeptical that the crystal caused it. Rather, it seems plausible that the simple act of installing the bezel loosened the insert.
It's a very tight fit. So it's possible I bumped it while installing, but I don't know. Its also raised on one edge where it meets the crystal, so only the inner area had the adhesive. When I put the new one on I decided to not take a chance. And just added extra adhesive. Seems rather solid now.
Yea, but the Russian bezel would have functioned fine at 1/5 the replacement cost.
GeckoCkCkCk That is very true, but it doesn't look nearly as good!
Relative Time That is good of them. Whom is the seller?
Impressed by how it holds up with water recreation, boating, and dives for the money. The black bezel looks cool but I liked the Orange better.

You haven't experienced any corrosion with your Vostoks from swimming, going in the sea etc. And that's with the standard crown?
Nice video there sir! That lumed bezel is fantastic but the looks of the previous orange bezel is just about perfect! 👍👌
Love the black insert, with the lume it gives it a rather pricier look not forgetting sportier
If you have the theme that works, you might as well stick with it. Well said, Shane! Great and very educational video! Thanks for sharing.
If you do not take care of the wire spring, the bezel will not snap on, and you might bend the spring, which will prevent the bezel from staying in position.
a very underrated automatic watch. For the price really unbeatable quality! btw yours look nice!
Thank you! You get a lot for your money with an amphibia. Cheers!
Fashion wise, the orange bezel is the best. From a technical point, the black bezel with the lume is a no brainer.
Thanks a lot. I think modding is part of the fun of owning a Vostok. So would you buy another?
Yes, I would buy another. They are the most inexpensive fun you can with a watch. I tossed the failed ones but will be more sensible about throwing a broken watch in the trash. Next time I will simply get a new movement and try again.
Thank for sharing. Have several Vostok s well about 15 actually 😉 I don't participate in water sports but I have often wondered how they preform thanks for sharing 👍
Wow.. 15... well they are addicting. 🙃 Thanks for watching!
I keep my Vostoks as supplied.
I have a 710 ministry case black scuba dude on the original jubilee and a 710 blue sailboat dial on a reddish brown leather zulu strap.
One for the water, one for the beach.
What ever works all 3 looks great.
Great looking watch and great footage!
Thanks!
At the breakfast table huh? That’s different but hey you might even be able to look good at lunch and dinner too lol!!!!!
Orange bezel for sure. Who doesn't want to see an Amphibian in its natural habitat - a luxury Bahamian Resort - especially during lockdown
From what I hear they are still open. You just have to get a swab shoved up your nose every 4 days for a test.
Shoulda stuck with the Vostok bezel ;-) Great real world test though, thumbs up.
He took the VW to the tropics! Nice dude!
Awesome video!
So you can see the different dials.
meranom.com/en/amphibian-classic/420/
Some of the amphibia SE models are nice, but as far as I know, none come in a smaller case.
As you know the scuba dude is always a classic, there is a turquoise scuba dude that my wife liked the look of.
meranom.com/en/amphibian-classic/420/vostok-watch-amphibian-classic-420386.html
Otherwise check out all the designs. As for eBay, I don’t have a seller there I recommend, but I have heard good things about zenitar.
www.ebay.com/str/zenitarstore
Hopefully that gives you a good place to start.
Harshad Contractor Any amphibia that you want would make a good buy.
Did you use silicone grease on the thread of the stock crown, is it necessary or would you. Or would you not suggest it.
The Black Bezel actually didn't look bad in the video. With the added Lume, not bad at all. Great video by the way.
Thanks! I’ve gone back to the orange bezel, but I still have the black one. Just looking for a new project for it. Cheers!
the orange bezel looks real good on your vostok.
Thanks. That's the one I've kept on it. Although I just noticed Meranom has an orange bezel they didn't have before.
meranom.com/en/amphibian-classic/spare-parts/bezels/vostok-amphibia-neptune-orange-universal-bezel.html
Nice video.
I like the black and orange it makes it look like it's Halloween
The black bezel looks much cooler. Its markings look more professional.
Great video! I like the the orange, and I don't usually like orange.
Thank you. The orange one is the one that has stayed on it.
I like the black bezel.
That black bezel looks pretty good, kinda Gotham city.
Good story, you must loose or break something for a good story.... thanks. Dave
That should certainly do the trick!
Honestly I like the orange ring bezel 😎
It's a great look. I wound up just replacing that orange one.
I have no idea about the Luminous material used in the Vostok watch. Is there any possibility of it being radioactive material?
No, it's just regular phosphorescent material. Honestly it would costs a lot more if it had any radioactive material. 🤪
Vostoks are sadly underrated. Never let me down. Just got mt Amphibia Neptune from my eBay trusted seller
koche-vikto from Russia. Thank you so much and I like your watch .
How do you like the neptune? Especially it's lugs. Might make it hard to change bracelts.
I actually have one on way to me now. a GMT 960762 version.
@@RelativeTime I like it a lot with a classy look. Yes the bracelet is hard to replace. I'm trying to find a Neptune Limited edition's bracelet for it.
Meranom has a few other straps you can buy for it, as well as an adapter. I ordered one of those as well. So I'll see how well it works.
@@RelativeTime Thank you Sir !!!
Thanks for the info. I was thinking they might be a little cheaper to buy them in Russia, but doesn't sound like much.
O4KAST lol
The orange looked nice, but I liked the black.
Hi! Would you please make your recommendations for an optional BEZEL color for Black Vostok watch dial, and for White as well. Maybe in some short vid. Thanks from Moscow Russia
hello sir, the black bezel is really awesome... please do keep it. cheers. :)
Thanks! I went back to the orange, but I still have the black. I need to get another vostok to put it on. Just not sure which one.
@@RelativeTime your welcome sir. just my opinion, how about vostok amphibia 710 (ministry case). it's feel good on the wrist...
@@zamSEG That's what I'm thinking. Everyone loves a ministry case, so I should try it. Just have to find the right dial that would work with i.
@@RelativeTime i've got the 710634 black scuba dude... really love it. hope to see what you've get soon. :)
ZamSEG sir? He works for a living lol
To be honest, I like the no bezel look the best, followed by the black one. The other two can go to the bottom. Good ol Vostok.
The ocean rejected your modded bezel. Ocean don't lie!
Lol. That's one way to look at it. 👍
Yep. Don't fix what ain't broken, or you'll break it.
Where u get the bezel and orange insert from? I want the same
all nice in their own little way
Great video, thanks
Bummer about the insert - it looked really cool while it was there.
Love your channel and share of experience.
Ps: im a proud 24h vostok full moon owner because of you xd (full of scratches already, is there domed sapphire for vostok 420 case?)
Use some toothpaste or poly watch. They will come right out with a small buff.
It's cool that you took the watch to its paces.
They are cheap, rugged and durable. Sort of like an AK47 of the wrist.
Hi there, do you have any recommendations on how tight the screw down crown should be?
Finger tight... Which sounds like a cop out, but I think that's the best way to describe it. turn it lightly until it doesn't want to turn anymore.
@@RelativeTime Thanks!
That wasn’t rust if you dived at the Bahamas it was an orange fungus that grows on metals very quickly
I guess it's possible, although it must of happened within the hour I was in the water.
Two different metals in contact will hasten rusting especially in salt water
Yup, i believe it's called galvanic corrosion. The chrome coating on the Bezel may help protect it a little from oxidation. But I much more concerned about the case rusting.
Will corrosion take place at the crown area if just swimming in a pool or tap water?
Cheers!
Thanks for replying. It's very interesting in a watch geek type of way ha. That makes complete sense and was something I'd never thought about.
I'm the same way, I ask people questions like that as well. Helps me understand the different sides of the hobby.
That's a good point. I didn't think about it with the exhibition case back.
Spehmaster G. It does nothing except looking better through a glass display back (yuck), it actually compromises the shock resistance, don’t do it!
24h Display back sucks in a tool watch, plus there is nothing to show off - there are no embelishments on the movement. It is ugly, can smash and sits high, don’t do it comrades
The middle variant was my favorite
I’ve got another orange insert finally . So it’s going to go back to that. It really is my favorite and plays well with the orange on the dial. Thanks for watching!
Relative Time... Yeah it looks good, I like your commentary. You're very different from Urban Gentry and Just 1 More Watch.
Relative Time... 1 more watch gets free products sent to him.
Bezels at meranom (and everywhere else) just become crazy expensive. Why does a bezel for $65 watch costs $24?
Even on Meranom? Maybe there is a supply issue with the outbreak right now.
Orange bezel hands down.
Yup! A new orange one has been living on it since. Although i might swap back to the black for a little while next month. The black straps against that bezel made it look very Halloween .
Hi!! Which model is your Amphibia? 420 or 120 ?It looks awesome 👏🏻
It's the 420. Which I think is the smallest.
Relative Time thanks!!! I’ll be getting one thanks to your vid! Looking foward to see more videos like this...subscribed 👍🏻
It’s made of Stalinium, you have nothing to worry about.
It's just a happy little accident.
What did you end up doing with the bezel? I put an AM-Diver bezel on mine, and the insert fell out of it!
Did it just fall out? Or were you in the water? I got a replacement from them and put it back in. But I added a bit of my own adhesive as well.
Relative Time
I was in the water, and just like you, came out of the water without a bezel insert attached.
Beautiful
orange is very nice
That's the one I've kept on it.
Original look for me
I like the Orange, and next time glue it.
I did. So far I haven't had any issues with it.
I ll be worried to try to change the bezel...is it easy?
On a Vostok it's very easy. I'm honestly not sure how to change it on any other watch. But on a Vostok, just held on by tension from a single copper wire. You can see it better here. ua-cam.com/video/xPP7eqOfVhg/v-deo.html
@@RelativeTime Thanks !
What model is this amphibia?
I believe it's a 420380 . So it's the smaller 420 case. This is my original review if you want to see more of it.

Of course, the black bezel looks better, not very fan of its shape though...
Yah it's a little awkward. I'ts had the new orange one on it for a while now. But I might swap back to the black for Halloween.
That's what happen when you mod/mess with the watch. If you havent modded it, i think it would be fine😅😅😅
Do you have the link for the bezel?
The orange one is sold by am-diver on ebay, I think they are out of Germany.

I've actually contacted them asking about what glue / adhesive they use. So far havent heard back.
the black pvd one is from bandukh on ebay. Out of New Orleans, LA. Although they have raised the prices since I bought it.

Relative Time Thank you
Nice video bro. I like the black one.
Black bezel rules! :)
I original got it for another project I was going to do. I was thinking the black bezel would look cool on a brass colored komandariske.
Black bezel will good decision for new series of Komandirskie with stainless steel case ;)
i think so too ....looks awesome !
Orange one is the nicest. Next time wrap it in a ziploc. Just kidding, I think It'll survive my cubicle.
Should survive a cubicle. Or you could protect it with some saran wrap.😋
orange
It's still my favorite. Got a replacement and hasn't left it.
Obviously the original look is better.
Check out these Russian watch companies, Poljot (Pilot), and Raketa. I prefer the latter.
I have a list of watches to check out. I'll add them to it. I've seen a few Poljot on ebay that I've liked the look of.
