  • TD with a big game against the Steelers.
    I got this off Tim McMillen's blog before his stuff got taken off of vimeo although it seemed to be the same version I had before that I ended up losing on another hard drive that quit working.

    In my opinion, Mike Renfro was one of the most underutilized and underrated wide receivers during his time with Houston and Dallas.

      Ironic, as Emmit would eventually achieved that. Boy, Dorsett was definitely a lot more fun to watch than Smith.

      TD had 900 less rushes than Walter. He would've been in the ballpark at 4.0 YPA was added for the 900 carries.

    I was at this game. My first ever visit to Texas Stadium. Two weeks prior, I attended my first every Cowboys game in the Houston Astrodome. I watched them beat the Oilers 17-10. It was especially great, because Houston's my home.
    MAN! I loved me some Tony Dorsett. And it was weird watching Drew Pearson walk along the sidelines in street clothes. This was after his car accident in '84, which killed his brother.

    I remember watching this game it had been a long time since we beat the Steelers in fact. I think the previous time even though it was a preseason game was August 1979. Even though both teams here were in decline at this time, the Cowboys actually had a good year winning their division after missing the playoffs the previous year by one game.

      This was the first time Dallas beat Pittsburgh since 1972. They met 5 times in between and lost all five including the two Super Bowls. For some reason Staubach just couldn't beat Pittsburgh.

    My Dad’s Company had 50 yard Dallas side seats, and I was there with my sister and brother. Tony was right in front of us for his 10000.
    I remembered it as more one sided all game than it apparently was.
    I only wished I knew who Mike Renfro was, as he later became a favorite.
    Great game.

    Just think - this had to be the year that they were thinking of replacing Dorsett. They got Herschel Walker in 1985 and made the ill-fated and clumsy attempt at playing them both in the backfield.

    It's a shame TD couldn't finish his career as a Cowboy, just like Emmitt. It's a bigger shame that he had to play for the stinkin' Broncos. He never looked like he was running particularly hard, but he just flew down the field.

    There are numerous reason why I prefer Tony Dorsett to Earl Campbell but the one MAIN reason is that Tony was multi-Dimensional. He could catch as good as he could run. Campbell was a horrible receiver. Pastorini once stated that Campbell Couldn't catch a cold.

    • @texasstadium
      @texasstadium 3 роки тому

      @@christophertracy2807 I agree on Payton because of his extreme work ethic and leadership qualities. You probably know that in the 1975 draft the Cowboys drafted Randy White over Walter Payton because they figured a running back had a limited shelf life. Not so with Payton. If they had drafted Payton, they would probably beat Pittsburgh in SBX. Who would they have drafted with the three number two choices they sent to Seattle in the 1977 draft for Dorsett? Well, White was a great player for them.

    • @rog9601
      @rog9601 3 роки тому

      Have you ever thought about Emmitt vs. Dorsett? That's a tough call as Smith was pretty dependable. Tony fumbled more but Dorsett could sure scoot and move much faster and was more explosive.
