    Great video. There’s always dynamic forces at work. Pavement transitions onto and over bridges, overpasses and though intersections are hard on carriers and mounts. Stay safe, well and positive.

    Mike, I have two of the older 2000i Honda generators I’ve had since 2012. Awesome generators by the way! We traded our 5th wheel in on a new one and now have a residential fridge, that needs power going down the road. Video was very nice, we really need boxes for our gens. Thanks for the nfo on the boxes and vents! See ya out there!

    Love watching your videos! I was considering a motorhome which had no generator. After watching a few of your videos, I knew exactly what to do... thanks to you.
    Well, I didn't get that motorhome, but... 2 weeks ago I bought a 1988 Lazy Daze 26 footer. There is a generator, but the location/housing puzzles me. It's on the passenger side, right behind the passenger front door. Right under the awning...2-3 feet from the coach door. Right where everyone hangs out! So there you are, sitting under the awning with family/ friends... and someone chooses to stay inside with a/c on or fix some dinner in the microwave. No problem, let me just fire up the generator for you...
    So everything's fine inside, but back to your little get together under the awning. Now you're trying to visit with the generator rumbling right next to you! And... the exhaust fumes lingering... Yuk! Which brings me to my question for you:
    Can I redirect the exhaust to the rear or the drivers side? Sorry this took so long...
    Thank you,
    Rick Doherty
    Joshua Tree, Ca

    • @Rvdaydream
      @Rvdaydream  3 роки тому +3

      Yes you can definitely redirect your exhaust just make sure that the pipe diameter and the Benz do not restrict the exhaust to the point where the generator overheats. There's also a company that makes a stack that temporarily Clips to the RV to get the exhaust up and above the RV and your neighbors it's from a company called Gen-Turi...

    • @Mike-01234
      @Mike-01234 2 роки тому +1

      @@Rvdaydream I heard that Nascar requires those clip on exhaust stack because there were so many Motorhomes running their generator they were concerned with too much CO gas building up down low since they are all parked very close together.

    Ive got a 7k watt generator that was basically given to me, do they make boxes for a generator that big? Also how do you go about refueling with the geny in the box?

    • @Rvdaydream
      @Rvdaydream  6 місяців тому +1

      I don't know if there is a company out there that makes generator boxes or not for that size of generator. If you watch the video I don't need to refuel the generator, the second box has the external auxiliary fuel tank in it. I'll give you a piece of advice though, you don't need a 7000 watt generator. If you manage your components inside your RV meaning you don't run the microwave, the air conditioning unit, a toaster, the refrigerator, all at the same time. You can do just fine with a 3400 watt generator. You just have to make sure that you're heavy load items are turned off when you run another heavy load item. Heavy load items would be the rooftop air conditioner, the hot water tank electric element, the microwave. And any other thing you may add that is a heavy draw.

    • @Rvdaydream
      @Rvdaydream  Рік тому +2

      The Honda caps are unique with a built in shutoff vent to prevent carburetor flooding/leaking during travel.. Plus the cap allows for the vacuum feed while utilizing the auxiliary gas tank which is why they generator can run uninterrupted for a greater amount of time..

    Great setup, I want to mount a duel fuel champion 3500 on the back of my fith wheel. I just don’t want the extra length because I’m already 40’ long. On the back though gets it away from my bed and right next to the power plug

    • @Rvdaydream
      @Rvdaydream  3 роки тому

      If you add a tray on the back that is directly over the bumper and basically in the middle just as wide as necessary for the generator to sit on there and maybe a propane tank then the 40 foot length should still feel like 40 ft in length other than right in the middle. I really don't feel as if my RV is any longer then what it used to be, even though it definitely is, I don't think you'll notice it. I'm very particular about that stuff and I really don't feel as if it's much longer than what it was even though it's 2 ft longer overall length now

      Watch one of my previous videos where I covered tongue weights... It's an eye opener... I think it's a video that shows something about rear bumper mount and on our old Terry Resort TT...

    • @tomtee4442
      @tomtee4442 2 роки тому

      I've converted my New 2200 watt Honda to tri fuel and only run propane. I've converted a few more generators over to tri-fuel and dual fuel. You can fine tune your propane, or natural gas setup with a adjustable load block it's called you can get more power out of the generator by running it leaner and darling in the low block it's easy and fast. Also with the load block you can adjust for very high altitude or very low altitude with just a turn of a dial and a set screw. When running propane you want to be on the lean side. You can't be too lean on propane but you can be too rich on propane and burn up the engine. Eventually I plan to do some UA-cam videos and add to my channel. A propane engine the last a lot longer, runs cleaner, less tune up and maintenance on propane. In the long run propane is cheaper in my area propane is $2.00 a gallon. Running propane you don't have all the gasoline getting stale from sitting, carburetor problems, having to constantly start a gasoline engine, treating the fuel and more problems on gasoline. Since I started running propane in the mid 1990's propane has not let me down.

    great video. but... plumb your exhaust up at least a foot above your roof line. again a carbon monoxide thing. the "stack" is easy to build.
    use 3 inch pvc. a base mounted below the gen to allow full cold air to enter the bottom. this will be lower than the input of the exhaust pipe. then a couple "stack able pipes" to above the roof line. the exhaust input is via metal electrical conduit pipe (gives a nice big easy curve) held in the center of the 3 in pvc, about a foot above were you cut in to allow the metal piping to enter.
    all this allows heat to rise and cold air to be pulled in from the bottom. the pvc stays cold. natural convection forces the hot exhaust to go up. the gen has a 1 in exhaust you are going up a 3 in pvc pipe so there is no restriction for the gases.the lowest part is hard mounted, the two/three stackable section are taken down for travel. also can add in maybe a decable drop in the exhaust noise as it is directed up not around. or at least just up and away thing?

      I experimented with our generator quite a bit. In the end since we were going to spend summer days in the heat of Yuma Arizona I did add a fan for safety. But, I had to find that out for myself with the box size that I was using and the Honda generator. So, I guess my answer is that you're going to have to figure that out on your own because if you do not have enough air flow that generator is an air cool generator and it will burn up.

      Our previous generator( that was mounted on the tongue of the old RV) was set up on propane and had a transfer switch it was nice BUT...
      when you run on propane you diminish the power output by quite a bit as propane does not have the same BTU "ooomf" as gasoline... The Micro-Air Easy starts that are installed on the Rooftop A/C units allow them to be run on the Honda 2200 generator but doesn't work when you cut the power output on generator by using propane instead of gasoline..

    • @Rvdaydream
      @Rvdaydream  3 роки тому

      There's enough of an air gap between the generator and the top of the box that with that circulating fan inside it doesn't need any additional help. If it was extremely hot, like Arizona 120 degrees, I would think that just a cheap beach tent would do the job of making shade or even just to a sheet that is stretched over top of it. Of course they make those gen tents. But currently the way I have it set up, I have seen direct sun in excess of 85° and it not causing an issue. Great question, you definitely want to keep air cooled engines cooled, LOL

    I'm a small engine mechanic and my business thrives because folks put a plastic or cloth cover over their generators when not being used :( They collect tons of moisture due to the principal of "condensation" and the cover traps it! That wreaks havoc on small engines especially the electrical components. Let air circulate around it inside box :) Just saying....

    • @Rvdaydream
      @Rvdaydream  2 роки тому

      Yeah the cover that we put on it during transport is open underneath and keeps the pressure washing that gets done at the Blue Beacon from hitting the generator directly.

      YES you can cover it with plastic if you throw in a moisture bucket .

    Seems like solar would be a better option given the iffy quality of power at some of the Thousand Trails parks. More expensive but more versatile long term.

    • @Rvdaydream
      @Rvdaydream  4 роки тому

      Not exactly sure how running off of solar during the winter for 28 days straight would be feasible. That's why I have the Hughes autoformer

    • @Rvdaydream
      @Rvdaydream  4 роки тому

      Oh, I just re-read your comment. You were talking about setting up solar as a backup, just in case one of the parks lose power? Don't get me wrong I think solar is fine but I don't think anybody that plans on staying in campgrounds more than boondocking would consider solar. That's an investment for people who like The Boondock all the time or most of the time. In the future I could see ourselves getting some form of solar but we would have to find the majority of the parks we stay at to have power issues. Some reason I think that might be the exception not the rule.

    Hi Mike; I have ask you in the past, but did you find out that do I have to look at a full ad for you to get paid for it? If need be I will run the full ad for you guys.. You can use my drive way when you come back to Ohio for a visit. I'm in Columbus

    • @Rvdaydream
      @Rvdaydream  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks Jerry glad to know that we have a buckeye Connection in Columbus that we can hang out with. I tried to research it and from what I understand it's just impressions. So even if you skip the ad apparently there is some sort of impression rate that they apply to it. So what I do is let the ads play if I'm interested what they're talking about or if it's something I'm not interested in then I skip them so I can watch more video with less interruption. So I guess in short, I would just do what you are comfortable with because it doesn't seem to make really a difference.

If you want you can mount a Honda EU3000 with no external fuel tank closer to the rig and run a 15k and a 13.5k A/C unit with Micro Air Easy start installed on both... But nothing else.... Over 3' from bumper not legal. Need to add lights at less reflection tape. Other wise nice build and good info.

    • @Rvdaydream
      @Rvdaydream  Рік тому

      Each tray is 2 ft, the brackets in which they mount are only a half an inch away from the bumper. So that makes it basically 24 and a half inches away from the bumper. We traveled 22,000 miles and 33 States and been through at least two vehicle inspections during that time. Never have we been told anything like that. Matter of fact I don't even know any laws on the books anywhere that says anything like that. Cargo Carrier supplied as an option from the RV manufacturer is over 3 ft. With no additional lighting nor reflective tape. Just take a look at our current fifth wheel and what came from the factory on it.

    • @leanderpruett4924

      I guess I remember wrong 4’
      The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) says, “No state shall impose…a rear overhang limitation of less than four feet.” Therefore, four feet is the minimum allowable, and individual states set different maximum limits.

    • @leanderpruett4924
      @leanderpruett4924 Рік тому

      @@Rvdaydream again nice build. Reflective tape is just for safety. So some one don’t hit it in the dark. There are many laws on how far somthing can hang pass the center of axle or how far pass the bumper front or rear. Or how high off the ground. This rule are annoying. But there so a car don’t rear end them and get a item threw the window before hitting the bumper. In video looked bigger then it was. Keep traveling/having fun.

    You talk about weight, then show the worst material on earth.... the diamond plate which is heavy, holds in heat, and is the worst for sound reduction. Literally, a fail in every category but looks. Face it, looks are what mattered. Not even going into the endless choices that made much more sense. I am not trying to be rude, but do research. You choose heavy, hot, and noisy. Most want light, cool, and noise dampening.

    • @Rvdaydream
      @Rvdaydream  2 роки тому +2

      Sounds like you are the brains between the two of us. Here this whole time I thought aluminum was lightweight and dissipated heat quickly. I mean, Ford uses aluminum on all their trucks... what were they thinking? it's so heavy! And computers and every other radiator type device uses aluminum fins to get rid of heat... what were they thinking? Not trying to be rude but show me a video of how you could do it better. Keyboard Warriors and armchair engineers. That's what the world needs more of.
