Dude. I got like 20 ish seconds in when I realized I wasted hours hammering on this. I threaded the stem bolt back in a few threads and tapped it tf out. I hate me. Thank you.
I'm interested in knowing what I can do to prevent them from getting stuck in the first place, should I use waterproof grease, perhaps some other product rubbed on them?
@@zzubuzz absolutely! Add grease to the stem and inside the steer tube on every tune up or anytime you have the stem out. Mostly they freeze in there from rust and never being moved or greased. Grease prevents rust!
Are are some other guys with some other weird methods. Acids and stuff. Could be worth trying 🤪🤪🤪 but all the old guys I learned from seemed to think most everything else is a waist of time most of the time😢😢😢
@@cancelik sure. Sometimes it takes extreme measures to free a stuck stem. But this is a "stuck" stem, and this is all a stem needs 9 times out of ten this will work. And it sure is nicer and easier to try this first than just assume you have to cut the stem off and take the fork out and go right to 100! Always try loosening the wedge and whacking the bolt first. Second is soaking in penatrating oil, adding a wide flat bar and a junk front wheel for leverage and trying to twist it out. Then dry ice. Literally every thing and anything before trying to beat it out from the bottom.

Dude, this is not a stuck stem. Sometimes there is no chance other than hammering the stem up.
