- Learn how to make a no-sew junk journal with this easy hinge binding method, perfect for beginners! This tutorial will take you step-by-step through the process of creating a journal that you can use to write, draw, and collage in.
Materials needed:
✅ Your choice of paper for the pages and hinge
✅ Cardboard/plastic packaging/cereal box for the cover
✅ Scissors and glue
✅ Washi tape/sellotape (optional)
Tips:
🌸 For a more durable journal, use heavier paper for the cover.
🌸 Be sure to line up the pages carefully when gluing them to the hinge.
🌸 You can use washi tape or sellotape to reinforce the binding, if desired.

This is so fun! Just like everyone else in the comments, I'd never seen this sort of binding before and I tried it out yesterday. I think I'm in love. I used a bunch of papers from my grandparents old house, so it all has a very authentic old vibe 😜

Thanks for sharing this, I'm looking for ways to attach individual pages without punching them so this gives me some ideas. The pages are already journal sized so I'm guessing I need some extra, folded, papers, to attach to my hinge first, then add my individual sheets. Can't wait to see how it comes out😊

What a fun journal to make! The possibilities are endless! I learned so much, and even thought you could add another page, only glue the top and bottom and you'll have a pocket. I want to show this to my young nieces this process. They'll love it too! Thank you for sharing.

@@megjournals actually i can't stop thinking about this method and the more i think the more advantages i find. Like - it combines the ease of making and bulk preventing nature of an accordeon with the more traditional look and flexibility of paper sizes of a bound journal. Since every folded page is it's own signature, you can get away with adding more things to it and it won't gape (yes i'm mentioning bulk twice, it's that important to me lol), BUT it doesn't get too monotonous with solid middle-signature one-sheet spreads one after another because this method almost mandates adding something to the middle to break them up. I need to make one of these asap i think i've just found a perfect way to make a journal!
Also, i just have to ask: is gluestick any good at holding that clear plastic sheet? It's so shiny and slippery, it looks like it'd need at least superglue to hold it
@@user-yo4gt1wn5s hope you have fun with it! there's definitely loads of different ways you can approach this binding method! as for the glue, it seems ok so far (tbh I swear by my pritt stick haha) but I might reinforce with some clear tape when I decorate it!

Love this idea of hinge binding! I tried it but found I had larger gaps between the pages than you seem to have - I wonder if that is because the paper I used for the hinge was a bit too thick?
This style of journal also is a first for me. Found the video easy to follow. Look forward to making one as I love to try something new. Thanks so much.
Very cool. Love it; not overly complicated but so open to being decorated in any way. Such cute little scissors; shows that you don't need much equipment to make this journal and still be impressive and I actually love the torn edges look. Lovely! I can think of a dozen ways to make that simple page binding even more decorative if one wished. P.S. Definitely going to make one, but it actually looks addictive so ... stocking stuffers coming right up... 🙂
