I hope you enjoyed this short legend! Wishing you a Merry Christmas, and we'll reconnect at the beginning of the year with a new video!
Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones ❤
Don’t let Disney find out they will rewrite it into woke garbage
Absolutely loved your video, thank you😍🎄🎁 Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
@kutya13 - I'd guess the creator is unsure about the origins. But instead of just chastising him, why not post links to the REAL tale. And why not post links to your favorite charities that support Ukrainian children? If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.
Sadly, I was unable to source anything that dated this tale to pre-Christian times in Ukraine or Eastern Europe. Everything I found dates it back just a couple hundred years. Doesn't mean that's correct, but just what I was able to find in a non-exhaustive web search.
As a Lithuanian pagan, I'm particularly sensitive to our traditions that have been claimed by Christianity. I'd be delighted to find a source, even/especially if it's in Ukranian or another Eastern European language. I'll do some digging to see if this has any roots in the Baltics and come back if I find anything. Happy holidays!
Blue Yellow Lithuanian charity is legit, so here's one place you can easily donate: (can't post the link sadly)

The whole world is at war... not just the plight of the Ukrainians.
Most of the ordinary people are broke... in more ways than one!
Yet there is plenty of money for these wars!
I thought it was a nice tale... considering I've cancelled Christmas until I get my justice... something we will all benefit from.
I never heard of this but my grandma from the Netherlands made spiders from beads for our Christmas trees. When I was a kid. I'm 45 and still have several of them put away.
And now you know why, 45 years later!
My grandmother, who is Polish, was big into Christmas spiders too, I always loved them
😊❤
Mine all got stolen by former tenants 🤬
Use them! Appreciate them! Share the beauty! MC
The variation that I heard was the tree was outside and the spider's webs were covered in frost. It looked like crystal lace that was finer and more beautiful than even the king's tree
Your version makes more sense to me.
That honestly sounds beautiful
When I was a kid, we had a spiderweb Christmas tree ornament. The spider and the web were covered in glitter. The web had several clear beads that looked like a cross between water drops and diamonds. It was one of my favorates.
@@Trivial_Whimthe one I remember is Santa being a individual that went around bringing light back into the time of darkness.
Santa being more of a deity then what we have now days.
I would love to share this version with my grand daughter. any info on it would be wonderful.
Lucas the spider fans should watch this! Even people who are afraid of spiders should watch this.
Arachnophobic here, loved it....mostly. spiders were cute though.😊
Lucas is phenomenal ❤❤
I’m arachnophobic. Watching but thinking that the spiders were the tiniest in existence ☺️
Lucas the Spider's got nothing on this legendary arachnid! 🕷😂 Imagine the resume: 'Saved the Holy Family, expert in web design, and part-time security guard.' Even if you're not a fan of spiders, you've got to admit, that's impressive.
I heard another story many years ago (25+ or more) and I am Polish.
When The Holy family run away from Herod, they hid in a cave. They could be found by Herod soldiers, but some little spider covered the entrance with his web. Thanks to this little creature The Holy Family could escape to Egypt and was save during journey.
This story also reminds me how useful spiders are and how often we kill them instead of letting go.
Lametta (Polish lameta), also called 'angelic hair' and garland (Polish łańcuch choinkowy) still are the most important Christmas tree decorations.
I heard the same story in the 60s, in Australia. Here huntsman and daddy long legs spiders are viewed favourably, because the help keep other insects down.
I got to play the Main Spider when I was in kindergarten when my school put this on as a Christmas play. I was the only one who could whistle so I got to summon all the other spiders ❤️ a great memory
Beautiful, thank you for teaching us all over the world! I appreciate that and I find it absolutely lovely. Love ~ from USA
I was told by a Native American friend they never kill spiders, they are helpful in removing unwanted bugs.
I take them from the house and let them go in our woods..
@@carriem7832 Me too. At some point of my life I have understood we should not kill them and usually let them go, too.
I'm 55 years old and had never heard of this. What a wonderful story. I will be putting a spider on my tree from now on. Silver and Gold, Silver and Gold.
I’m 44 and just now hearing this story for the first time as well. 😊 Glad it was suggested to me on my UA-cam feed. It Looks like I will need to put up a Christmas 🎄 Spider ornament up on my tree next December!! ❤ 😊
How beautiful. I love tinsel. It loves me too. I find it hanging around the corners and under things for months afterwards. 😂 MERRY CHRISTMAS.
We were given a Christmas Spider ornament many years ago. It's been on our tree every year since then. I was just told it was a good luck ornament and never knew the legend of it until I listened to this video. When I see a spider's web in my yard or woods, I'm always amazed at the pattern and how lovely it is. THANK YOU for sharing this legend with us and have a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Merry Christmas!!
Many years ago, when I was staying with a friend in Hampshire, we walked down to the village High St. On the way I turned back to look at all the houses with hedges. It had been raining the night before and there were spider webs everywhere, covered in rain drops. The sun shone down on them and suddenly there were millions of diamonds flashing. The most beautiful thing I have ever seen!
The eyes on the spiders resemble the eyes of the jumping spider (their vision is like ours). They are very smart spidies. The story was interesting and heartfelt. Thank you for sharing this Christmas story.
Oh, I love jumping spiders!
We used to put silver strands of tinsel raining down on our Christmas tree when I was a child. It was always my favorite part of decorating our tree. Now I need to get or make a small spider ornament to complete that tradition.
I am a retired preschool teacher and I’m sure my students would have loved this wonderful story. ☮️💟
This story represents what a humble effort to make something with love is a blessing to others ❤
I have NEVER heard this story and is incredible that a little gang of spiders created such wonder and beauty with their webs.
Now I want a spider ornament. Thank you for this wonderful story.
This is such a delightful folktale! I've always loved spiders, now I have their Christmas Tale! ♥️🎄🕷️
I like this story very much. Imagining an army of santa spiders with little santa hats is very endearing.
Even though I'm terrified of spiders, this gentle story was perfect for Christmas Eve! Thank you so much for sharing it with us, and may all our eight-legged friends have a joyous holiday.
Learn about them and you won't be terrified of them- in fact, you might find there are quite a few cute ones and most are relatively harmless to humans. They are a critical part of our environment- I even had a small one living in the corner above my shower for years... never had a problem with mosquitoes until she died.
I've had a Christmas Spider in every tree that I can remember. Never knew the story. Such wonderful tradition!
The spiders in this video were ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE! ❤️❤️❤️
It melted my heart that they wanted to make the family's Christmas special by weaving an intricate pattern with their webs, and it made me want to hug them! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
nope. I found myself recoiling, but I loved the story! 😂
@@redfog42 I totally get that you recoiled at the sight of the spiders, but I found them cute (although I'm not particularly fond of arachnids or centipedes)!
Those spiders are so cute! They look like that friendly jumping spider Lucas 💜
Love your comment! The ingenuity and craftsmanship of spiders are truly miraculous❤
Was a sweet gesture by the little spiders. Made with love ❤
An enchanting heart-warming story of the 'tinsel' tradition on Christmas trees. I never knew this before. Thank you and Merry Christmas...with 'blessings' year-round.
What a wonderful story. I’ve seen spider ornaments before. I’ve even heard the term “Christmas spider” before. But I didn’t know the story behind the Christmas spider. I dig it! I’m a crafter so looks like I’ve got some spiders to make for next year! Thanks for the tale, I enjoyed the video.
❤️💜💚
I grew up in an Italian and Scottish family. We’ve always had spiders hidden in our trees and the child that finds them gets a prize. I’ve gifted many spiders over the years, this is my favorite Christmas tale. 🥰
Brought a tear or two to my eyes. Wonderful story.
This story is absolutely beautiful. I hope someone makes a short film out of it. OMG. 🥺
I had never heard this story. Thank you 🎄🎄🎄
I used to work for the Forest Service (seasonally) and we would often leave very early to do field work in various habitats. One day, we were in the right habitat at the right time and saw a most beautiful site: Many spider webs covered in dew and reflecting the morning light!
Spiders are such cute wee things. I like how this recognises that spiders are helpful to humans.
Merry Christmas.🕸
Thank you for this story as I have never heard it before!
I normally don’t like spiders, but this story is wholesome
I'm allergic to any kind of spider and I'm terrified of them but this story touched my heart. Merry Christmas everyone.
I get an allergic reaction if I touch a spider web and also am an arachnophobe except tiny spiders and daddy long legs don't scare me.
This was beautiful, MERRY CHRISTMAS and thank you for this beautiful story.
I just sent this to my dad who loves Christmas decor and hates spiders! Can't wait to get his reaction😂😂😂
And his reaction was..._____?
Far less dramatic than I was hoping for
Just lovely, I've never heard of this before. ❤❤❤❤❤
What a beautiful story, I have not heard of it.. thanks so much. Spiders are such wonderful creatures... so happy to learn they have an honorable space in Christmas:))))))
I want to run out and see if I can find a spider ornament now after hearing this sweet story!💞🕷️🕸️🌲💞
Never heard of it, BUT I find it to be rather sad that the efforts of the spiders weren't enough for dear old Santa and that he felt compelled to change up the tree from all the work that they had put into decorating it.
This is the first I've heard of this. It is such a beautiful and heart warming story. 💜💜💜💜💜
What a wonderful story. The graphics are beautiful. Thanks 💕
Very nice story. I'd never heard it before now. Thank you for sharing! Happy new year!
🎄 WOW what a lovely tale. 🥰 I'm adding a Christmas spider to my tradition for now on. Thank you for sharing this ❤❤❤❤
This is such a beautiful story. I loved it❤❤
I'm going to save this for my wife to watch, not all spiders deserve a bad wrap . 😊
Bloody hell this story ❤ is so touching. The tears are streaming down my face 😢
What a sweet story , giving from the heart is what it’s all about ,even a smile to a lonely person , or a homemade gift made from scrape fabric . God bless us everyone,
This just makes me love and appreciate spiders all the more. ❤×8
I've never been told this story, however I did wonder where tinsel originated from. What a lovely little story. I'll need a spider ornament for our tree from now on. 🎄🎊🕷🕸
I heard this story as a little girl and loved it. It's good to hear it again 😊
A charming story which I've never heard of before. I've always assumed tinsel was simply an effort to replicate snow and icicles. Thanks for bringing us this gift!
Can't believe at 60 that this is the first time I've heard of this. Thank you for posting!
I don't remember where or when I must have heard this story before, but it was long forgotten, lol. Thanks for reminding me 🎄🎄🎄
This is one of my favourite Christmas story legends. Currently I don't have a spider on my tree. It's something I will have to rectify. The illustrations for this are very beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
What a lovely tale 😊 🎄
This is a beautiful story.
Cool story! I had no idea, and now I have Christmas spider ornaments on my list for Christmas 2024! 🕷️
A beautiful story to bring a smile to anyone’s face ❤❤❤❤❤
That was truly heartwarming! Thanks!
What a thoughtful family of Spoods!! I think I will get a few spider ornaments for my tree next year
Thank you for this heartwarming story. I've not herd it, before. Last Yule, I made a metal web, and metal and bead spider for my daughter's gift, simply, because she loves spiders. Now, it seems, I'll need to make one for my tree, too! Also, can't wait to share this video with family on the big day!
A Beautiful Gift you've given the world, may your kindness return to you & yours many fold and may you be Prosperous in the New Year 🤟🤩🎄🎁🎉
I've never heard this before. It is a wonderful story!
First time hearing this story. Thank you for sharing. Merry Christmas.
We have had a gold beaded spider in our tree since as far back as I can remember. I always hide it somewhere in the branches and have the kids try to find it. We love it! And. Ow we know why. Thank you! Merry Christmas! 🎄 🕸️🕷️
I'm from switzerland and never heard of that story. It's beautifull, thank you for this video! 😊❤️🎄
As a tarantula owner, I especially love this. Thank you for posting and Merry Christmas!
Likewise! I tried to get my tarantulas to web up my tree, but they refused to work on a holiday weekend!
I don't know who did the illustrations but they were beautifully done and made the tale of the Christmas spider so believable! Thank you so very kindly for putting this video up for all to see at this time of year! Happy Christmas 🎄to you and to all the viewers out there that still believe in the magic and miracles of the season!
I also loved the illustrations; however, I was slightly disappointed with the trees. Only once did the tree coordinate with the story's description (when the spiders covered it with webs), but other than that, they didn't match the narrator's description. Don't get me wrong, the trees were beautifully done; I just didn't understand why they were not drawn to fit a story that specifically describes how the trees look.
@@deeliciousArrangemen- most likely because it was done with low cost or free stock art. If a creator doesn't have a large budget and/or doesn't have design skills, that's how it's done.
AI
The easiest way to make and use art now is using AI apps. The pictures in this vid were definitely AI made
Yeah, AI knows perfectly well how to ease any arachnophobes mind - just make the spider ten-legged, so it's not really a spider.
I love Spiders , what a nice tradition.
I loved a version of this as a kid
I’d never heard of this story, but I absolutely love it and will promptly be getting a spider ornament. Well done!
It's an A.I STORY ITS MADE BY AN APP
The magic of Christmas brought to life by this enchanting and heartwarming tale. Thank you for sharing! Merry Christmas to all.
I always keep several beautiful spider ornaments on my tree in honor of the Christmas spider.
thank you for a beautiful tale love mythology and folklore and folklore stories and your channel is the best
....I was today years old when I found out I somehow made an OC that would have done exactly this and is also a spider. Mechanical five and a half foot tarantula, but now I know where he REALLY got his kind nature!!!
Over all, this in story alone made me happier on Christmas than I've been in decades. Cheers, sweet arachnids of Christmas yore. ❤❤❤
I can't post pictures but my family has had a little beaded spider on our tree every Christmas since we were little. It was not only this tale but also my mother's name Charlotte so it kind of had two meanings to our family.
I’m telling this story to my grandson this evening when he’s tiring of the day 🥰
Those spiders sure had a lot of legs and fingers too. Not being a spider lover, I naturally freaked out while seeing this. On the other hand, This is such an amazing tale. I have never heard of it. I still enjoyed the video.
I liked the tree with the webs on it. And we do hang spiders on our trees. Love this story.
This sounds like the plot for a Rankin Bass cartoon.
What a beautiful story, and well told!!!
What a beautiful story. Merry Christmas and God bless. 🕊
I have never heard of this, it brought tears to my eyes❤
I to have herd about the little spider who saved the holy family from Herod loved your story also will tell my residents tonight at dinner I work in an age care fercility❤ merry Christmas and happy new year to all
I know a little boy that really liked spiders for a time. His family tradition is to pick an ornament every year so they have 3-4 spiders on their tree I think 😁 but I doubt he knows this story. I'm going to send it their way. Merry Christmas 🎄
Hello!
Thanks a lot for your nice video❤
I'm German myself and I never heard of this (beautiful) story not did I see spider ornaments 😮 but now I know, and will look for it.
Merry Christmas and many greetings from Germany ✌🏻😜
At work years ago a secretary used to hang large tinsel ornaments from the ceiling that we further along the floor called ‘the Christmas spiders’.
Thanks so much I bought a spider ornament with a poem many years ago it was a gift I have never seen another one or heard this story so again thank you it brought back memories
I’ve never heard this but I adore spiders so I love this.
Cute spiders and story!
I heard a different spider legend.
Many years ago, I purchased a pretty Christmas Spider and it came with a slip of paper, telling the story of how a spider spun a web over the manger with the baby Jesus, Mary, and Joseph within, so that the soldiers could not find them.
If this site allowed photos, I’d share.
Beautiful story. We've always hung a spider. My dad's family was of German descent.
Thank you, that's a lovely story.
Beautiful story! We Scots believe spiders are lucky too! We always cut our own tree. One year we cut and put up our tree. Next morning my wife and I came out and spider egg cases had hatched with the warmth and the whole room was covered in web and tiny spiders! Oh My! We had a Merry Christmas and a Happy Hogmanay to all!
I absolutely love history.
What a sweet story ❣️
It wasn't Santa Claus but the Chrishkindel that blessed the spider webs and made them glisten like silver and gold. My aunt told me that story so I made one for her, my sister, and our family. They adorn the trees each Christmas.
What or who is or are the Chrishkindel?
This is wickedly ace! ❤ I have created a Christmas card with a spider dangling within it! The logo for my studio is a spider within a ❤.
Lovely video and narration!
What a beautiful story!
I have never heard this story before today. It is beautiful. I used to be terrified of spiders but as I have gotten older I find the beauty in them astounding. Since I do a lot of bead work I have been inspired by this story to create as many spiders as I can for 2024 Christmas. I will give them as gifts along with this story. Thank you so much ❤
I've never heard of the Christmas spider or seen spider ornaments, but it sounds lovely.
Okay...well.... how did all those branches come to be?
I have heard of the Christmas Spider. And the Christmas Pickle. I love Folklore :)
So this story didn’t go the way I thought it would, and I’m pleasantly surprised by this heartwarming legend that I never heard of before (I’m American). Thanks for sharing! Merry Christmas, and God Bless!
