This game is so hard first time through, but after once through you can play on harder difficulty. So many ways you can play this game like using those spells using more than one type of magic-skill. Only way I can actually complain about anything in this game is the amount of time combat usually takes and the massive amount of time you have to put in to try everything. This was one of the best crpgs ever, BG3 why not

this game got me into all the rpg stuff in the first place. i usually didnt played games like this before. but i admit it took me three tries before i got hooked. mainly because i was just overwhelmed with the stuff you could do and all those mechanics that happen all at once. once i got into it and finally beat it i can say that this is one of the best video game experiences i ever had. and i have over 500 games in my steam library alone. the best part is that i played it with a friend. we used to meet at his place with our pc's and laptops and spend weekends on it. great times

Sebille is an interesting one because she is very passive aggressive in the early game but overtime especially if you’re Romeos her her character basically makes a complete 180 I was originally going to Romance lohse but when Sebille broke down and started telling you the story of her first kill and how she was mine control by the scar on her face being forced to kill a Young woman and describing how brutal and traumatic it was for her Embracing and crying into your shoulder it was enthralling

I bought DOS2 a month ago and im sold. Was skeptical at first due to the art.. but now i love it. Combat is intresting and quite easy when you learn the basics. Thats why tactician mode exists and then combat feels like the first time you played it, hard. But as you learn the game you learn the importaint things.
the skill system is intresting but quite difficult to grasp. Why take Warfare instead of 2 handed for combat? etc. some things are not plainly explained.
Skillbooks are another issue i feel, atleast in the first act. Makes it a but harder to re-roll characters in act2 as changing skillbase leaves you without skills to use (mostly magic).

I thought this as well. I want Baldur's Gate 3, but I also want DoS3. I like the classless nature of Divinity: Original Sin 2, and its worldbuilding. Lots of interesting things I've love to see explored in the next entry. On the other hand, BG2 was one of my favorite games when it released, and BG3 is a super interesting addition. Having already played 60+ hours of the early access in a couple months, BG3 is exactly what I expected. It's far more mature and feels more like a Bladur's Gate game with Divinity Original Sin 2's combat.

DoS2 is one of my favorite games of all time. The only problem I really have with it, is that it is a little bit unbalanced and gets too easy alter on, if you are a completionist and min-maxer like me. Once you are half-way through act 2 (my favorite act by far), you have become so powerful that even on higher difficulties most enemies get steam-rolled. The balance between classes is also a bit of a problem. At least when I last played it (which was some time ago to be fair), there really was no point doing magical damage at all, due to how armor and magic armor works and how strong physical damage was.
The thing DoS does the best imo is just user-experience and convenience. Stuff like free unlimited reskills, the teleporter-pyramids, easy to manage inventory and the ability to move around the camera how you please are amazing. And all those features just get better with multiplayer, the teleporters, shared global inventory and free-camera movement allowing you to split up and freely explore the map, while still always being in contact and never being too far off from joining your buddies, should they get in trouble. Simply amazing.

This is the first crpg i've loved since fallout 1. I have to hard disagree with you about the music (the most subjective category I know). Its absolutely amazing for me: the rich tonal quality, that brilliant main theme that gets stuck in my head for days, I love it all. Its like 9.5/10 for the music imho. Nice video btw, I like the way you explain your opinions properly :)

Thanks man! I think the music would be great as a standalone soundtrack, but it's a bit overproduced and overdone. Now that you mention Fallout. One thing that I like about Fallout is how the music seamlessly blends into the ambiance in a way that it sounds like it's coming from your surroundings. Here it's like a layer of epic music played on top of your adventure. Again... very cool tone-consistent music that I could listen too while I drive around or jog, but a little bit on the nose. Thank you for leaving a comment!

Firt very nice review, I found it very useful.
As for your question: would I given Larian the License for BG3?
This not so simple for me.
tldr: I'm torn about that, but I came to a point that I just don't care anymore.
    Full reply:
First I do love Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, I still have the original boxes that I bought when they released in the ninenties.
When BG3 was announced I still hadn't play DOS1 nor DOS2, but I owned those games in my back catalog because everyone was saying how awesome those are, so I was happy that a competent studio would make BG3.
Then I played DOS1, and for me it was an awful experience, to this day I haven't finished yet because it's such a lackluster game, I tried hard to keep going, but after 92 hours of play I was struggling to find a reason to continue. Random generated loots, uninteresting plot, flat companions, bad leveling, bartering and inventory systems, the combat itself became stale after having covered the battlefied in elemental areas on each and every encounter (and who was the genius who tought that a pet pal perk was a good idea?). That's when I started to doubt about Larian.
I own DOS2 but I haven't played it yet, DOS1 disappointed me so much that now I don't think I want to waste so many hours in the sequel, and that's why I'm looking for every reviews about DOS2, and that's why I ended up here.
So far I'm seeing that DOS2 have many of the flaws of its predecessor, and honestly I think the armor system is dumb (Mass Effect 2 used a very similar armor system and it was bad, that's why they refined it in ME3, but the DOS2 seems even worse than ME2), so my intention is to try it and play it with a total conversion mod (problably after I replayed PoE2 for the nth-time).
So we end with BG3, which uses D&D 5e rules and I'm not a fan of that, at all, but looks likes Larian is changing rules to adapt it better to a videogame, which I believe is a good choice.
Since the majority of people are chanting praise for DOS2 I suppose it was a good commercial decision to let them make BG3. Personally I do think that using the name BG3 is just aimed to get the old fans onboard, as it does seem that it will have nothing to do with BG1 and 2, it doesn't feel a sequel at all, and so I will judge it based on its own merits alone. This new game will be a D&D game made by Larian, the fact that it will be called Baldur's Gate 3 is totally incosequential.

Very great review man! It nailed every aspect of the game I liked and disliked. Again with a nice humour touch. The only point where I doesn't agree is the soundtrack which was great in my point of view. But that's also a matter of personal taste.
As for "Should BG 3 be made by Larian", that's a very complicated version.
DOS 2 is my fist CRPG, so I'm pretty much a new comer. And I haven't player BG 2 yet (I know that's a crime)
I feel that it's a situation with high loosing potential for Larian as well as for the players.
Personally, I would I've prefer Larian to make a DOS 3 and some other games (like Divinity Fallen Heroes witch was "reported") instead of BG 3.
DOS 2 was a very creative game with lots of very cool ideas like the classless system and the low use of RNG. All those nice ideas and maybe other new ones that could come from the Larian devs won't unfortunately be possible with D&D 5E rules.
As for the matter of making most of BG 2 fans happy, I think it's gonna be hard with a non isometric, non RTWP game.
I think that another studio (Obsidian? Beamdog?) might have done a better job on that department.
It's gonna be hard to reconciliate all the expectations in one great game. And even a great game would be a deception for some.
But hey, if a studio is capable of that, I think it's Larian.
And if every sequel of great games just try to emulate it's prequel without innovating, taking risk, that would be sad. Because taking risk, innovating are all things that were necessary for us to enjoy those great classics.
So I'm really excited to see what Larian is gonna pull on this one.

It's been a year since this video was originally posted, however since it only recently appeared, along with your channel, on my radar, I wanted to chime in. And I am stating this even before watching the whole video, at timestamp 2:30:
DOS2 is basically the only isometric cRPG since Fallout 2 that I have completed and not only that but played through twice. I have never managed to do that with IWD, BG 1 or 2 or even P:T. I'm not mentioning Arcanum as I fucking hated how broken and unstable it was at the time, dropped it very soon and never looked back. And yes, I would've granted Larian BG3 licence. In fact I am awaiting eagerly until they finish it and it goes out of Early Access into full release, and only because I have an iron rule to NEVER pay for pre-release or EA products, no matter how good they seem.

I just finished the game this morning, and a great game that often kicks you in the balls is a perfect summary, you're a genius.
It's a great tactical game, no doubt about it (even if I prefer XCom2) but it's both a great and terrible RPG, because the gimmicky or unfair fights (almost all of Arx) gives you 3 choices :
-either you have min/maxed your characters&gear, which means hours of inventory management&crafting&bartering (shudders) and only use the tactics that maximise damage so always use only the more efficient abilities and that's boring with how many fights there are
-reload and pre-place / buff or even respec your characters to cheese with knowledge of what's to come so I guess you HAVE to roleplay a psychic, maybe that's the true nature of the source :)
-cheese the hell out of telekinesis, the enemy being in pause while in dialogue so you can put your backstabber behind them and barrels all around them or dozens of nonsensical stuff like that. What is this "immersion" and "roleplay" you're talking about ?
Also I'm happy to be a completionist (which means I came back to fort joy multiple times even if it made no sense after escaping it) because I wouldn't want to start any act underleveled...
I had the same problem with Pathfinder kingmaker and its love of cheesy/steroid-abusing enemies to add challenge even if it makes 0 sense/gets tedious, especially at the end. Why do developers take cues from the difficulty mods of BG2 instead of the vanilla game for their standard difficulty ?
At least you can decrease the difficulty during a playthrough in both games, because I'll take too easy over infuriating.
I needed to rant even if no one will read this almost a year later XD

    • @YeOldEntertainment
      @YeOldEntertainment  Рік тому

Don't worry about --> "I needed to rant even if no one will read this almost a year later XD". Late to the party is the official alternative name of this channel. The options you listed pretty much constitute the full spectrum of the things you can do in DOS to overcome the challenges in the hardest difficulty.
But I think the option of reloading and taking different decisions for combat encounters is where the fun's to be had in this game. Add the level design to the challenge and you have... well... the best turn based combat there's ever been, I'd even place it over Xcom2.
As for the "steroid buffed in enemies" in Pathfinder games... puff yes... those are a pain like no other.

Ok so.. my body is ready for the shitstorm I'll get for leaving this comment.
Honestly the way larian handeled the combat made me realize that the problem of "turn based combat" (which i wasnt a fan of until i played dos) isnt the actual turn based combat. Its dnd that feels like an absolute slug (told ya i was going to get shitstormed). We've all played and enjoyed dnd and dnd games for what they are, but i think it's time to move on.
That concearns me, not because i think that larian cannot live up the expectations for a new BG title, but rather the opposite. dos greatest stenghts (combat and let's say half of character progression, I'm not a fan of talents tbh) are gonna get replaced with an outdated a kinda clunky rule set. But there's no way I'm blaming Larian if BG isnt as great as a DoS III could be, my finger is pointed at dnd KEKW
With that said, if there's a studio i could trust this gigantic project, it's defenetly them. I am curious to see how much they can innovate and change without upsetting the boomerest videogame comunity, cRpg's. (or absolutly fucking enraging it, which i dont think it's gonna happen, but it would be hilarious)

I know I'm going to get a shitstorm as well for saying this, but I feel DOS 2 is overrated. I have yet to finish the game. Though I hope to try again some day and finish it. I did finish DOS 1, but only played once. I felt like combat in DOS 1 is better than 2. I do agree with you on the clunkiness of the D&D ruleset. It's what drags down the Neverwinter Nights games in my opinion. Things like a level 1 character can only perform 1 action every 6 seconds. I know the reasoning behind it, and character progression is important, and it feels great when you become a badass. But man, having that level 1 wizard or level 1 fighter can be a pain in the ass. I'm not sure how BG3 will handle these issues, I've been avoiding spoilers and haven't looked at any Beta footage really. I will say one thing I like about D&D is the class fantasy (though they do go overboard with all the sub classes and prestige classes).

No matter who did it and how it ends up many wouldn't like it. Not many beloved franchises pull it off especially after a long hiatus. Even if you had all of the original people on the project they would be 20 years older and wouldn't produce the same content. Basically people have unreachable expectations. Best line of the video, "Fuck you! game." I split a gut laughing.
possible explanation for the secondary mechanics issues.
Ironically I did not originally experience this same issue but that is because i played the game first in Co-op. So i only had my own character to control. This dramatically changes the way buying and selling works and feels, even through i was the barter of the party. The reason is other people were making their own choices for what they wanted to equip I would simply take orders for items people saw in the merchant and buy it if we had the coin. It makes that system seem great. And people would wares items and send them to me to create a simple way to sell crap as well. Why? because four people where working in tandem.
The above said however, it was truly a pain in the ass when i played single player. The only question I have is was the system designed the way it was because it needed to limit co-op access? Would the engine allow too much info on gear during the merchant interface otherwise? The game does allow conflict in co-op so maybe they wanted some info limited in co-op and it isn't as simple as allowing x mechanics in single player but y mechanic in co-op. many game engines do not like two divergent systems for the same thing causes all sorts of conflicts.
DOS2 is not a single player game. It is a single player/co-op game. This may seem like a minor difference but it is not. The developers called it competitive co-op, you are working together to finish the game but you are also competing against each other. This means limited knowledge of what gear you are wearing or is in you bags (Specifically bags and pouches not the top layer of your inventory). So i might know what your fellow players have in the top layer of their inventory but not what you have in the bags in your inventory. This means that getting to a boss in a fight allows you to get the gear and if you could compare gear with everyone in your party that would ruin the secrecy in the co-op play. It makes it clunky as hell in single player but makes it great for co-op. Remember there can be only One divine and that is played out in co-op. And keeping your gear secret is part of competitive co-op.
This doesn't negate the bad experiences with the mechanics, but they were built like they were for a specific reason and not because of bad design and it was only in single player did you get a smack to the balls, in co-op it was actually a high five. In single player you were just in the wrong position for said mechanic. Where there better solutions? I don't know. Where compromises made that hurt the single player experience? Yes. But one of the things i loved about Dos2 was the ability to play a co-op game with my friends. So on a personal level I am glad they made the game with co-op even if it made my single player experience a bit more annoying.

    • @YeOldEntertainment
      @YeOldEntertainment  2 роки тому +1

I think they could've easily avoided all the ball smacking for the single player campaign with just a few changes in the interface without hurting the co-op experience. Just and impression though.

    • @AIRGEDOK
      @AIRGEDOK 2 роки тому +2

@@YeOldEntertainment I couldn't say either way. i do know that some engines really do not like different "rule sets" for the same thing. In this case the rule set is allow viewing gear of other characters in single player and not allow viewing gear in co-op. I am very hesitant to say it would be easy simply because the perceived difference to a player is minor.
Also I know that many features in programing that seem completely separate can have unforeseen interactions . You tell people this and they simply wont believe you or think you are a moron. This is very much why many features talked about in early development for a game are dropped not because of time but because with the current tools available (and a game engine is a tool) you get issues that simply can't be solved so they are dropped.
I know from my own experience that the mechanics make 100% sense in co-op and if they were not this way co-op would be to some measure ruined. It is obvious that this impacted single player play but that is the nature of design sometimes if you want A&B in a game you get something that has to make sacrifices to either A or B or both to merge them together. I am not saying they issues are not real or shouldn't be highlighted but i think it is important to NOT present Dos2 as a single player game in totality as it clearly isn't. So some measure of a review should include this feature. it is the same as ignoring the sound track to a game. Especially when co-op is true co-op where every person playing because the "main character."
Did larian make the right choice? Not sure. It wasn't a choice without thought or purpose in terms of game play. There is a real and legit reason why you can't look at other players' gear in Dos2 without that character being activated that isn't simply limited to co-op. it is the type of Co-op and the story told that creates a direct rational for this restriction. none of this said negates the annoyance and it doesn't mean there were no solutions. However just because the systems are annoying in SP doesn't actually mean there was a solution either.
Multiple things are at play here, the specific story being told, the desire to have competitive co-op and the tools/ engine available. If anyone of these things was different then the system could have been very different. Many games that allow co-op in a single player game are not truly co-op as the hosting player is the MC and the other players are just side kicks . DOs2 doesn't really do that you are all main characters. Any character can go off on their own and talk to anyone, initiate and finish quests on their own. This creates different requirements for a purely single player game that allows other people to join YOUR story.
Did Larian make the right choices? No idea. But i did find their approach to Co-op refreshing compared to classic cRPGs.
I guess i am saying that when you ignore co-op to the review and ignore how the story would play out in a co-op setting you lack the context to a possible "why" the mechanics are clunky in Single player. Otherwise you get the idea it is clunky for no reason at all which isn't 100% fair. And to be clear even if there is a 100% legit reason for the mechanics to be clunky in SP they are still clunky in SP and deserve criticism. But the context as to why is still important.

While I feel like DOS 2 lacked the narrative/setting polish when compared to the other games in this series, and had some baffling design choices (armor system, movement system, bartering system), I honestly feel like this is one of the first games to step out of the IE game's shadow to try innovating the CRPG space.
The core gameplay loops of combat/exploration/quests feels complete fresh. Exploration no longer feels like a matter of just click-and-go. Combat/Encounter scenarios allow for more proactivity and environment interactions than ever before. And quest design - though it lacks some of the deep branching other games have, there's a general design philosophy that allows for more organic solutions - i.e. it never feels like the only way to complete a quest is to follow the A, B, and C scenarios the developer has clearly laid out for you.
I'm really hoping Larian can polish their weaknesses in BG3, and make it a sequel worth playing. Because I do feel like they are pushing the design of CRPG in the right way.

And buying multiples for characters that use the same skills. Also the armor system is just extra health bars half the time. I think it should have been 50 resistance points. That make crowd control 50 percent effective but add 1% every time you use a talent that can debuff. So when your resistance points reach 0. Crowd control and debuffs are 100% effective. But it has two really big issues for me: A slightly blah plot, and the turn based mechanics, and it was this combination that really counted against this game for me.
The older I get, the more there is that demands my time, and sitting down for an hour might be all I have. It effectively meant that there were weeks at a time where I had absolutely zero progression through this game. Considering the sheer volume of stuff to do, it was very hard to get invested in the plot when I spent far too much time fighting the same battle, over and over again. In hindsight, I should have started on an easier difficulty, but defaulting to normal shouldn't be a death sentence.

And yes... after three days I was STILL in the first area and far from finishing it. Yes, the plot is blah (because its good solid idea for a story was unnecessarily twisted in an overly convoluted way and bloated without reason). But... I would never blame its turn based mechanics. They are 100%, hands down and by leaps and bounds the best combat mechanics I've seen in an RPG. Yes fights are long but they are also the bread and butter of this game.

D:OS 1/2 have hands down the best combat in any CRPG I’ve ever played. But most importantly, Owlcat’s games are very heavy on systems and detail, but they also have a penchant for fiddly micromanagement systems (kingdom management), which I think tends to dilute the overall experience.

Had it been my decision to grant Larian BG's license, would I have allowed it ? Gameplay and design wise : HELL NOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!!!!!! But marketing-wise, yes, with all the hype and attraction DOS2 got plus their console friendly gameplay there are no reason granting them the license wouldn't make a great return on investment. More than what Obsidian or Beamdog could have ever achieved. And I guess that's why Wizards of the Coast opted for Larian.
Also I totally agree with the terrible "secondary mechanics" of DOS2 : definitively the worst UX out of any modern CRPGs.

Nope I would not give it to Larian they always been doing parody fantasy games ever since Divine Divinity tone of Infinity Engine games was obv totally different, focused on telling the concise story, instead I would get it to possibly Owlcat most likely or even Obsidian hoping they've learned from some of their mistakes from PoE games. Guys like Black Geyser CoD possibly they seem to stay truest to the infinity games but as a studio they would really need to expand to deal with a big project. Last option would be someone completely else even a new large enough studio comprised of ppl that understand the core of Forgotten Realms storytelling of BG/IWD and have one true to the original vision while enough talent to stay on the same high, especially artistic, level. Ofc that's all easier said than done and none of these options seem perfect and without it's problems but that's likely the best answer I could give to your question hehe

I wouldn't have given Larian the OK to make BG3. I didn't enjoy DOS2 and didn't finish the game abandoning it at, iirc, the prison which was pretty early in the game. It did not leave a good impression with me and I don't want BG3 to follow that path.
Unfortunately, it seems that BG3 is and we're getting what looks to be an Act 1 where everything you do is irrelevant to the actual plot. I was very underwhelmed at the end of the early access portion with what we were given.

I loath the combat in BG 1 and 2, Icewindale, Pillars, Pathfinder (although I have additional gripes with both Pathfinder games) I never finished them because I disliked it so much. I love the combat in this game I am so glad that BG3 combat is more similar to this than to those other games. Before someone tells me that that the story is more important than the combat, the thing is I view the games as something akin of ice cream, the story is the small delicious bits of chocolate submerged in large quantity of ice cream, if I dislike the ice cream flavor no amount of chocolate bits will make me finish the whole thing. The combat is majority of what we do in those specific video games and no amount of good story will make me sit trough hours of horrible combat.
On other note this game is a sequel, and is the last chapter of the story of all previous Divinity games, in fact in the first Divinity series game Divine Divinity your character is fact Lucian (canonically), I think its wort it to visit all RPGs of the series to see the full picture.

Fair Enough. I like combat in all those other games you mentioned and I think combat in this game is magnificent. It's easily the best turn-based combat in a CRPG I've personally experienced.
However. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "this type of game", if you mean CRPGs, well then there are plenty that don't even have combat: Disco Elysium, Gamedec, Citizen Sleeper, etc.
As for those which do have combat, for me it's a bit the opposite of what you say: RPGs for me are first and foremost about playing a role: for example, being a chaotic mercenary who sort of becomes the reluctant hero, etc. With a bad story that won't ever occur, and even combat sufferes because your reasons to go out and do combat feel like a poorly concocted excuse.
There are though some games that have a hideous story but have combat that is so good that almost makes up for it.
Fortunately this one has outstanding combat and a pretty decent story too (if a bit unnecessarily convoluted).

@@YeOldEntertainment I singled out the games BG 1 and 2, Icewindale, the Pillars games, Pathfinder games specifically in my comment as DOS2 is most similar to them (I am aware of Disco Elysium and Gamedeck etc. which take the genre in different direction and I did not mentioned them). I don't expect Shakespeare when plying video so even a mediocre story is passable for me (as long as it is not truly atrocious) but if what I do in the majority of the time, in this case combat, is bad in my opinion I just cant bring my self to slog trough it just for couple of minutes dialog, feels like a waste of time, and those game do love to hurl enemies at you like candy, An I agree that the story is convoluted, as I said the game comes with a lot of baggage as it is the conclusion of the story line that has been passed trough 6 games if you count Dragon commander, this game is most tightly connected with the first 3 games Divine divinity and Beyond Divinity, and Divinity 2, Ironically, Divinity Original sin 1 is the most disconnected from the main story as it take place before all other games except Dragon commander which is a spin-off. The naming of the games is as convoluted as some of the plot to be honest.

BG2 "purist" fans are NEVER going to get the BG3 they want. BG/BG2 where made in the era where TSR owned D&D and they used the licenses to help keep the company afloat so they were far more willing to accept a studio making changes to the D&D rule set. Wizards of the Coast is not a small company and they are owned by an even larger company. Wizards is not using licenses to help keep the company solvent either. Wotc also saw video games as a DIRECT competitor to them which is why 4th edition played like a video game in many ways. This means any sequel to BG3 was NEVER EVER going to be similar to BG2. Real time with pause is not something Wotc will ever allow. They don't want combat to feel different from 5e. BG2 combat felt very different from 2nd edition combat and that was only possible because TSR was a dying company. Wotc is using BG3 as advertising 5e, hey did you enjoy BG3? Well play the "real" thing. Wotc want people to play D&D they don't want you to recapture your feelings you had when you played BG2 for the first time. BG2 was and always has been first a D&D licensed product, 2nd a video game.
To put things in perspective since BG2 was released three new version of D&D were released and three companies have owned D&D, (TSR, WOTC & now Hasbro). There is no reasonable expectation for people to expect BG3 to be a similar game to BG2. Too many rules have changed and the state of the company is vastly different. Also the position of the hobby in the 2020's is vastly different that in the 90's. The core competitors at least as viewed by wotc Hasbro is different than that of TSR or an independent Wotc. If the business climate is different, if the business is own by a different company. If the rules have changed in very fundamental ways and the hobby itself has changed there shouldn't be an expectation for series that started over 25 years ago (including development time) to have a sequel be the same.
WOTC doesn't want BG3 to play like BG2 they want BG3 to play like more like 5e. And I mean PLAY that means they want turn based combat that means they want core mechanics to be close to what 5e delivers than closer to what most video game can deliver. You have a choice either buy the game or don't buy but make no mistake you are not right on how BG3 should be because there are no right or wrong answers with regards to subjective media. All the BG2 purist whining about BG3 not being more like BG2 are idiots pissing in the wind. Not because they don't like BG3's approach but because they expected and honestly think they are entitled to force the owners of Baldur's gate to submit to their whims. The only thing that happens when you piss in to the the wind is you get wet and the only person you have to blame is yourself.

Kinda wierd that's named BG3 also. Bhaalspawn story is ended, WotC even killed him after that to ensure this (read that in wiki). It looks like it's around ilithid theread (secondary quest in Amn pointet to that) but it was sidequest. Minor sidequest. And had nothing to do with main story. That was always about bhaalspawn. It's like strictly marketing - wise decision.

    • @AIRGEDOK
      @AIRGEDOK 2 роки тому +3

@@piotrkarp9562 BG3 was always going to be a new story. Even the original development of BG3 in 2001 by black Isle was intended to be a new story from the Bhaalspawn. There is no difference now. It was my understanding that BG series was more a tag for games set in the region and connected to the city of BG not about the Bhaalspawn and we saw spinoff series using the Baldur's gate tag as well. Often times the main series gets the numerical designation and spinoffs get a sub-title distinction. Baldur's gate was NEVER intended to be story of the Bhaalspawn alone. The original BG was licensed when TRS was at is lowest point. In fact the company failed before BG1 was released, as TSR was bought out by Wotc in 1997 and BG1 came out in late 1998.
This just highlights how desperate TSR was for the money and how they where in no position to be firm in how people developed their licensed material.
I'm not here to judge what is best for the series all i will say is D&D was a dying property which could not support the company which owned it. D&D today dwarfs all the competition in the industry which wasn't true in 1998 or even in 2013. it makes no sense from a business standpoint to hold true to a series of mechanics from two niche games based on 25 year old technology.
I don't want people to think I am shitting on BG1&2 as I am not. i just don't think the future of the series lies in the past.

Two main heroes are cool and creative but after 1h you will be tired with them arguing over and over again.

Hard disagree on the combat. Where the Baldur's Gate games had puzzles to solve of the best spells/buffs to solve a fight (including stripping key immunities), Divinity's armor system oversimplified it to break armor and CC. The room being on fire and just dealing becomes blaise, and the sound/graphic effects are more than a little overdone with . Some feedback is good, but this is feeding monkeys-with-cocaine levels of overstimulation (with all the appreciable signs of withdrawal). Fights are notably restricted in how many adds, party members and summons are utilized (no Wand of Summoning Sarevok ala BG1).

No, never. We don't need stupid Divinity 2 dlc and we just got it all with slow, totally unrealistic turn based combat. No encounter in the world ever is turn based (and it's not 1996 so they have no other solution, how immature players are they which support slow turn based games) everything happens parallel at the same time when combat starts. It's great that we have pause because in real time with pause we have turns too but more advanced, parallel at the same time for all and fair wit only small initiative. So RTwPause is too turn based but much more realistic. So from many immature Larian's decisions and environment elements as barrel or crates jokes which are maybe interesting on first level or two I don't understand why they wasting time on it when on third level in D&D we have powerful magic and skills that barrels become as untasteful joke 🤣 idiotic jumps too. Ok to use some tools with combination of abilities but simple long kung fu 5m jump no way. Me and my friends are in real 6h+/day sometimes 14h/day gaming since 1998.
