My heart stopped for a second when you lost the handle. You handled it much better than I would have. Those moments kill a bit of your soul for a few…ever.
Not at all disappointed. You've demonstrated the skill it takes to get a decent blade. It's no wonder once they figured out bronze and iron they abandoned stone tools. If you mess up a metal tool, it can always be melted back down and started over. Stone is unforgiving.
Wow! another master class , You could see by your face that you enjoyed that beautiful piece of flint , I do love the sound of knapping flint but that one sounded amazing,
That is a sweet looking stone, so is the one behind you on your left. And it's got the nicest ring to it. And knapping is often about recovering after a major failure. Good Job Will.
Wow. Good on that man for putting that stone into capable hands. I woulda been a nervous wreck hitting that rock. Unbelievable flint. Makes our American flint look like rubble. Didn’t want that to end. Wish you had a mound of that stuff! Looked like you just ate the catbird whacking on that rock haha
This huge stone is great for those of us who are clueless about basic principles of knapping. It lets us see really clearly how things work: where exactly a strike is made, how that relates to flakes coming off the underside. It did not die in vain!
You definitely don't need to apologise because you demonstrated how to make good a genuine piece of bad luck! I love your vids and the narrative. Right On!!!!!!!
Greetings Will, You're a most welcome site in my humble Phoenix, Arizona home this fine morning. I appreciate you giving us another amazing display of stone age craftsmanship. No worries about the handle. It was inevitable. Adventure on brother, Phat
@@WillLordPrehistoricSurvival i have to say that was a well deserved Phuck. I've studied knapping for few years and recently been trying my hand at it. That peice was especially nice to watch you break. Awesome material Will.
the skill that you have shown in making this dagger Will, is exceptional....I watched from the beginning, and was totally consumed with AWE !....99% of the flint knappers couldn't even come close to your skill level, or your ballz. I'm 76 and I know virtually nothing about knapping except what I have watched, I do however know how to judge the human animal, and you never cease to totally amaze me......please continue, and THANK YOU for doing these videos man !! ......OnWard........
Feel for you. Wasn't fun to watch it break. I noted that you still managed to get a decent dagger however. The pieces you took off will make some beautiful items as well. One thing I've noticed with knapping is that an item is only a total loss if you want it to be. There is always something to do with even small pieces leftover. Kind of changes your outlook on a lot of things in life.
Will, I absolutely love your knowledge and knapping expertise. I’m 26 now and have been pursuing flint since I was 6. I love the knowledge you are passing on and I will be using such to improve my own Paleolithic adventure! I would love to come to the UK sometime and join your courses and learn as much as I can from you! You are more an inspiration than many realize!! Much love to you and your craft Master Lord.
I did not read but a couple of these comments. I do know that breaking a work piece is a chance you take with each strike. One hell of a fine job you did on both pieces. I swear quite a bit napping myself. Appolagizing is a great thing for the children, but sometimes it’s easier to ask for forgivness than permission. You certainly earned the right to say whatever you like. The stone was singing (break me). Great video man!!!
As usual amazingly talented, I am in awe as to how you do this even after being on a course with your good self! Love all your videos, cheers for sharing. All the best Will.
I have not understood all what you say, but I feel with you all the stress during this sequence. A so fantastic stone singing in your hands and your fabulous technic 🙏👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
You sound like the flint knapping equivalent of a teenager geeking out over a brand new laptop....and I can understand why too that flint is beautiful the title makes it sound like you started out with a half a brick but oh boy .... Smashing rocks? You are the flint knapping equivalent of a van der whosit diamond cutter Mr Lord Incredible work, fantastic to watch and Yes I think that was a warranted word....too
I only just discovered your videos .their brilliant i love flint ,obsidian, andersite.i really want to learn to work with flint.all I have is the flint that came over on the boats fom England as ballast .hundred or so years ago.but going to give it a go.thanks for the inspiration. All the best on your lifes journey.
Damn, well you called it from the get go. Can you comment on how you could have approached it a different way? Perhaps by working towards the center (like from the hilt or base of the handle) and working to the center. I have no idea. My favorite thing to do it to break my bifaces as soon as I get them 90% complete... Nerve racking. Thank you for sharing this video though, it is helpful and instructional. Also inspiring I suppose because half of the art is making the best out of a given situation. Still turned out to be a fine blade.
You didn't court this rock for two years, it was love at first sight, and I don't blame you because she's a one of a kind beauty! I thoroughly enjoyed watching you two dance, and listening to the song she sang! My heart sank when she split, and I felt your pain as well. Would you be so kind as to offer your opinion as to what exactly went wrong on that hit? Not enough support on the tip, too much weight on the handle end, a mix of both or ???
What an absolutely enthralling video. A joy to watch you ply your craft on an amazing piece of flint. One swear word is allowed😁 Can you do a video of mounting the handle. Would love to see the finished article. Thanks Will.
oohshit!!! That hurt me worse than you! Well....maybe not! Permission granted to say whatever you want! I said it soon as I heard that crunching grinding sound. She stopped peaking for just a moment but she will sing again!
what a beautiful piece of flint!! yup! an incredible tone, & sound!! wow! so many useful piece's!! congratulation's! ready 2 go on a hunting trip tonight!!👍..not 2 mention, this is so historic!!jeez!

Hey will just watched you on ben fogle mate awesome guy love your story if your ever back in cornwall give me a shout theres some ancient burial sites here currently one in the cliff which was exposed by the sea you can actually see the coffin made out of slate still in the cliff
The stone sound's like a high tensile steel ring. Is it part of the skill process in picking the right type of stone IE for axe and knives ?. Cheers for now Wattie
@@WillLordPrehistoricSurvival That makes the adventure more interesting Will our Pounamu Green stone is very hard we use a process of forming and sharpening tools etc by using a volcanic and sandstone . We do have Obsidian down here in NewZealand found on an Island off shore Tuhua or Mayor Island which can be knapped or chipped to find a very sharp cutting implement tools knives scrapers etc. Cheers Will
The rich tinkle of flakes from this insanely large preform of perfect flint literally released endorphins into my brain. Thank you.
i couldnt stop thinking about how vocal it is. Like shards of glass that ring like bronze.
As a trucker i can't watch more then a glimpse at a time but I love when you talk history and techniques throughout the vids ... thx
Cheers mate stay safe out there
I’d be super careful about that. Pretty sure there are FMCSR’s about that sort of thing.

Absolutely gutted when it snapped, would have been an awesome dagger, still silver lining and all that you still managed to create an amazing knife.

Amazing work, I am in awe of the skill you possess and I love watching you create works of art.
Definitely a heart brake when the handle broke but you recovered quickly. And you have a great piece to make an arrow from.
Still a beautiful piece I made a bunch of fowl mouth bird points myself but you done a great job love your work
What an art form flintknapping really is
Great video! I knew recognised you on Ben Fogle!
This reminds me of Stone Henge. Those early artisans be shrooming and singing with the blue stones 💙

Will, no safety glasses!!! you should be wearing your safety glasses. Another great job...
I haven’t worn them for the last 45 years 😂
If you need safety glasses chances are you're doing it wrong haha
Even though it broke ,it's still really nice
Stunning, nothing goes to waste what an amazing skill you poses
The tinkles of the shards is the magic escaping from the Stone.
What a joy to watch you at your craft!
Exactly rite we're all watchn you knap that and praying it all goes rite...just all from different tribes

That whole thing almost looks like one of those fantasy caveman axes. Beautiful stone.
This man is a regular old Phil Harding with the flint!
Even I, knowing nothing about flint knaping, am struck by the purity of the sound from that nodule. It rings like a bell, like finest china.
Love that sound
i REALLY love the flint we got in Denmark if you find the right one

I'm guessing that big flat piece of flint is actually a flake from a much bigger piece, and it's been well weathered and rounded off.
Love it
In Will's defense that is one sexy piece of stone.

Hey will just letting you know you have fans all the from Kansas city USA! Might I recommend saftey glass next time though
