Hm... while I agree that it's most likely the Thief in ThunderClan will take place sometime between The Darkest Hour and Firestar's Quest, as that's what the blurb seems to suggest... Cloudtail at the very least looks a bit old on the cover art, and I'm not sure why but those trees look more to me like this is the lake territory. But that might be just me. The "moons of battle and betrayel" though could pretty much suggest any point in time xD Like after Omen of the Stars arc, after Darktail, after The Broken Code... Still, it does seem most likely it takes place in the old forest. For a moment I even thought that maybe this leads up to them being captured by Twolegs in Moonlight, but then it was pretty obvious there were less prey because Twolegs were destroying forest and not because some cat was stealing it, so it can't be it. Anyway, it will be fun to see the old forest and the old warriors^^ Brightheart and Cloudtail will be the focus of course, but we'll get to see Firestar, Sandstorm, Graystripe, Dustpelt, oh, Bramblepaw as an apprentice, maybe some of the first arc's elders... Ooooh, and maybe Princess! I always wondered if Cloudtail ever brought Whitewing to meet her, though I doubt this would happen in this graphic novel. Already pre-ordered the upcoming Polish translation of The Sun's Trail, even though I wasn't sure if I would continue to collect past Omen of the Star arc (I'm kinda running out of space for the books, apparently collecting them in two languages wasn't exactly a well thought out decision on my part, go figure ^^;). Fun fact, there will be two problems with the translation they'll have to figure out: 1. Names in general. You see, in Polish translation, they spread the names into two words, for example, "Firestar" is in Polish "Fire Star" (even though the, um, "combining two words into one" - dunno how that's called - exist in Polish language; for example, one of the early rulers of Poland, Bolesław III, had a nickname "Wrymouth", which would totally work like a Warriors name!). So as you can see, the names in Dawn of the Clans arc will be problematic, as that's how they already are and there will be no visible distiction between the names of early settlers and Warriors. However, looking at how they solved this with Fallen Leaves in arcs 3 and 4 and Gray Wing and Tall Shadow in Blackfoot's Reckoning, they will... switch the word order. Yeah, in Polish, "Fallen Leaves" is "Leaves Fallen", "Gray Wing" is "Wing Gray", and "Tall Shadow" is "Shadow Tall". 2. Two specific names. See, in Polish translation, ThunderClan - for whatever reason - is actually called LightningClan (even though Thunderpath is still Thunderpath). And as ThunderClan gets it name in this very arc after Thunder, well, this means that, for everything to make sense, he will be called Lightning. However, this means that Lightning Tail will have to be called Thunder Tail- no, actually, if you consider the earlier point, he will be called Tail Thunder. Which ironically... would kinda make more sense of the joke about Lightning Tail always following after Thunder, as it's the thunder (the noise) that follows after the lightning (the electrostatic discharge) xD PS: I don't think you've mentioned this yet, but Victoria Holmes will be in Poland again next weekend^^ She'll be in Kraków during the International Book Fair on 29th of October^^
That's really interesting about the names! I always wonder how they translate the names into various languages, because I know that some languages don't do that where you can just put two words together. I believe the Spanish and French translations, for instance, have Fireheart's name literally translate to "Heart of fire". It's fascinating that they chose to split the names into separate words rather than do it like the English books, although I suppose that Dawn of the Clans wasn't out yet when they first started translating them. Switching the word order is definitely an... interesting way to handle the DotC names! Thanks for the heads-up about Vicky Holmes! I'd somehow completely missed that; didn't see the Facebook post or any discussion of it among fans. Definitely worth mentioning!
When I was thinking thief in Thunderclan I was thinking about past Thunderclan in Graystripe’s vow and how he was helping Gremlin while Firestar was on his quest. It would be good to see her again, I wish more would have done with her in the actual arks.
