Interviewing The Founder of Noble Amplifier Company | The Janek Gwizdala Podcast

- This is an interview from last year with the founder of Noble, Jack Roan. It went up on my separate podcast channel, but since that has long since ben abandoned, and with the recent release of my DI shootout video, it seemed fitting to release it on the main channel so a wider audience might hear the story behind Noble.

Dear Janek, I love your posts and really appreciate your effort. I would like to give a little input to help you get the last bit out of it. If you activate the hipass filter on your microphone channel or on your SM7 then it doesn't pop constantly when you speak. If you watch and listen to your contributions with decent headphones or a good speaker, then it's a bit unpleasant considering that your content is so valuable. Kind regards and endless thanks for what you do, Emil
It's a small thing that I myself haven't wanted to complain about, but it's true: on speakers or headphones with a good bottom end, it gets to be a bit much
Yes, and I hardly dare to come up with the "stand topic". It should somehow be possible to bring the microphone up to the speaker from below. 😬
I want to post the same thing.
A Lowcut should help.
Yes please.
@@schwoebel I’m in the opposite camp with that. I like seeing a microphone almost regardless what the context is
"The Amp is part of the instrument." WOW! He just nailed it! So true, so inspiring!
Great interview! I have a Noble di myself and it’s well worth the wait and the price!
Great interview. Crazy to hear how this awesome piece of gear almost didnt happen.
I just assumed he'd be an old guy with a beard for some reason. I really enjoyed this one!
Getting my Noble next week, thanks for the interview! Great guest and insight.
Wild for me to see this. I played bass with this guy a few times back in San Diego probably early to mid 00s backing this singer.
He was a good guy and was super excited to show me his amp that he had built. It was cool but I had no idea what he was talking about. (It was definitely over my head.)
I have known about this noble DIs, but I kinda came out of the punk background so always relied on the di out of the back of the head.
Anyways, still seems like a good guy! Happy for all his success.
Jack is such a nice guy to deal with. My Noble is that one piece of gear that I'll never part with, and I know that so many other owners feel the same way because these black boxes hardly ever come up for sale used.
Just got your "Big 4" bundle and your "Stuff" bundle. Thank you for writing out your years of knowledge so I can focus my practice time.
I should have mine in a few weeks. Talked to Jack (Great Guy) looking forward to adding it to my pedalboard. Great Video...
Love my Noble! I’ve had mine since 2019 and have used it in the studio and on the road.
¿es espectacular no? tengo uno desde hace 10 años. Serial #9.
Probably the best studio tube DI/Pre I might ever own.
Both of the coolest people ever!
Awesome ❤
I really lucked into the Noble. I saw Philip Conrads DI shootout where myself and seemingly everyone else picked the Noble blind. I'd never heard of it previously and suddenly it was the very expensive thing I had to have.
I checked the local classifieds on the off chance someone was selling one in Australia and I wouldn't have to wait a year and lo and behold, God smiled on me, and a Noble was available. A double blessing was my wife signing off on the sudden massive expense.
I had it within a week and have subsequently built a tiny board around it... tuner>empress comp>empress paraeq2>Noble.
It is completely indispensable to me. Jack is a true genius and a real cool dude who has given me great advice with it, transferred the warranty to me and replied to my dumb questions I email him.
I know people balk at the price and want to buy the cheap reverse-engineered clones or dismiss the Noble as not worth the money... I get that its eyewateringly expensive... but it really is that good.
Jack deserves every ounce of success he gets from this device.
I'm in Australia, any chance I could meet you to try yours; before I buy?
I just ordered one while watching this interview, ha.
Dear Janek, one off-bass question: You wear a very nice watch. Looks like a Racetimer / Duograph with an nice retro-look. Could you reveal what watch it is?
It’s a Tudor heritage chrono blue
@@janekgwizdala Thank you.
Hello. Totally irrelevant question to the video but you may be the only one to help me. Any thoughts/ experience on the meridian funkulator? Very little information on line. Its pretty expensive ( 400$) thats why im asking. Thank you.
Never heard of it unfortunately...
@@janekgwizdala Thank you.
Bought one back in 2021. Jack was amazing to deal with and it was well worth the wait! Absolutely love my Noble!
Sounds like every other DI, costs 5x as much. Make it make sense
Objectively it simply doesn’t. You can hear that clearly in my recent DI shootout video.
Subjectively, is it the right one for you? Only you can answer that. But there’s definitely a reason most of the best bass players in the world have one, and it’s not because it sounds or feels like “every other DI”.
