This was super interesting even though I'm a dedicated PC tower guy. I still have my 10 year old Lenovo T410 running Linux Mint XFCE on it as a back up! It still looks good, has a perfect screen and everything works.

Generally speaking, the newest or best specs you can afford. P series are excellent machines.

I know I've got a laser focus on this, but would it kill any of these manufacturers to make a laptop with a quality keyboard again? Apple's keyboards are trash, Lenovo's and Dell's current keyboards are middlin' at best. There's a huge population out there that doesn't care how slim and sexy our laptops are - they're tools and their interface to the human needs to support the work, not hinder it. Nowadays I have to carry a decent-sized mechanical keyboard just to function when I'm working remote for more than an afternoon.

Keyboards are a very personal thing. I've enjoyed all the ThinkPad keyboards I've used.

@@LaptopRetrospective The problem is that everyone designs for the lowest common denominator. There was a time where IBM designed their keyboards to be *excellent*, even in a mobile form factor.
My wife has a modern Thinkpad, and while it's more usable than Apple, it's still a bear to touch type on.

@@EasyMac308 maybe not totally "modern" but I have been very happy with my x1 carbon gen 6. For a long time i was diehard using my x200s, but I've found this keyboard to be wayy above my expectations. Super clean and crisp feeling with a pleasant bottom out. I think I like it as much as my 600e, its a definitely different but still equally nice.

@@rezenee is that still the island? I find that if the keycaps aren't dished I struggle to touch type.

@@EasyMac308 its got the chicklet style keyboard but they are slightly scooped.
There's about 3mm seperation between each keycap so its still easy to feel where one key ends and the next starts. Unlike my dell work laptop where you can hardly feel where one key starts and the next ends.
