Epic Tile Trip. Huge 44 pound Golden Tilefish!!!

- I continue with my very short break from tuna fishing to head out 60-75 miles for the beautiful golden and grey tilefish.
These guys n gals live in mud/clay burrows anywhere from 250-1000 ft of water. Some akin the filets to lobster. While I absolutely love the meat, I wouldn't quite say it's that close. But delicious nonetheless.
We get an easy limit of both golden and grey tilefish and end up with two slobs. One was 44 pound official weight and our biggest tilefish to date!!!
Continue watching because the tuna didn't get too long of a break.....I've been beating them up pretty good since this last trip.
Once again guys n gals....I am not a charter. I have a full time job which, unfortunately, has nothing to do with fishing. Thanks for watching!!!
Hey Chris! Nice golden tile man! Keep up the good work! Fishing with you would be my dream! Good luck for the rest of the season!
Thanks so much Kevin!!!
Dude always gut the fish.
the way you describe "getting off the couch".... thats the reason i fish
My favorite fish!
How far out were you? Enjoy watching the channel. Thanks for posting the trips.
Thanks so much Bob. We were 65-75 miles out
Epic catch. That tile fish is what dreams are made of.
thanks so much!
Didn’t know tiles got any bigger than the second biggest you caught, great catch
Thanks so much Connor!!
Nice video, those Goldens Wow they were cool!! We got our first Sword 2 days ago, checkout OCMD Slam! White Marlin, Yellowfin and Swordfish. We fish out of OC, VA and NC.
That's awesome Spin. Congrats.
Do you need the drag in the reels you use or is it more just gear ratio and capacity?
I cant see buying such a rig for something i may only do once a year at most.
I have an Avet MXL with plenty of capacity but max drag 20lb with 5.8:1. Is that too high of gearing?
I think that will work just fine. We use the electrics because it helps us prospect new spots and bring in the bigger ones quicker. We sometimes only dedicate an hour or so on a tuna trip.
But did you get the cooler? How often do you come across crap like that out there?
Ugh. I was in such a rush I just left it. I'm sure someone caught more mahi off in and then took it home!!
Here is a tilefish riddle and true story. Long time ago I worked on commercial longliners for tilefish out of Montauk New York. Occasionally we would catch 2 tilefish with only one baited hook. How could that happen?
the monster golden had either a baby golden or blueline it it's mouth or belly ????
I have heard black belly rose fish will swim back down.
I5s nice to know you can afford to go out there on a boat like that and relieve your stress.
The rest of us with no boat, no money and 4 jobs trying to make ends meet will just get our kicks watching you guys relieve stress. Must be really hard on you guys.
No one is envious, we just don't have the time to be. But we don't stress about it.
those breakfast sandwichs tho!! josh is the real MVP! would love to see more catch and cook episodes
They are so delish! Thanks so much for watching!
Those rosies get a little bit bigger and are more than worth targeting when they are. From what I understand they don’t have much of a problem swimming back down. I know they don’t have the air bladder like most fish and will get back down on you in a hurry if they pop off the hook.
Epic day brother EPIC!! Those rosies will get up to around three pounds
Oh ok Josh I didn't know that. Thank you so much!!! I just wanna kill all the tuna all the time.
Altough your video is 2 years old my questions are worthy.
Do or dit you fish with fresh tuna and or squit covered with a neon artificial squit ?
At what depth did you fish those big tile fish and those sozy ?
The big goldens come from mostly 600-750 feet. I like a bare hook for tilefishing. Josh usually has a skirt.
I know it’s an old video but just wondering what kind of jig you’re using. Going on my first tile trip next month and looking for some more jigs to bring
sorry for the late reply. Link below. 16-24oz
the-reel-seat.shoplightspeed.com/omt-tilefish-bomb.html
greate video. how far out were you when you caught the mahis?
Thanks as always Trance. Only about 16-18 miles if my memory serves me correct.
I can’t believe y’all kept those baby tiles, I fish the same waters as you guys and get nothing but 5 pound plus tiles
these fish have zero percent chance at surviving due to the barotrauma. so releasing them is kinda pointless. if you watch a little longer when we go to the deeper spot you'll see monster goldens.
Nice!! Tiles are great eating and fun to catch if you have electric reels.
thanks as always Craig.
massive golden lol. the meat is a lil tougher on the bigger ones from my experience. what did u guys think
I agree BroadBill. I like the smaller ones better
Another great 👍 catch by the Reaper Team !! Thank you again for another great video Captain Chris !!
YOu're welcome Charles! Thanks as always for watching!
Would you mind sharing how he’s moving the jig you can even email me it if you don’t mind so the entire world doesn’t now been trying to jig them but can’t for some reason with the same exact jig
Aww man I'd share if I knew how. Josh was talking Justin through it but I honestly wasn't paying the least bit of attention. I'm sorry !
Reaper Fishing NJ it’s ok thanks for the great content!
Young man on electric reel,, !!
Very nice
Thanks so much
i got a 41.9 lb on friday off jersey
That's awesome Chamberlain!!! Congrats
Wow awesome tile.
Chris one thing I always forget to ask you about. Do you guys ever cut up a fish for sushi on board and have the fixings with you?
Never right there on the spot. For most species I believe it's illegal
@@reaperfishingnj8623 ok thanks for that info. I always thought that would be amazing. Catch cut up and yummy. Minutes old. Couldn't get any fresher. Oh well just have to get back to the dock first. Then enjoy. Great stuff Capt
Wow big fish man
Big thanks
I wish when I "get off the couch" I could bring my couch ,TV, and eat pulled pork and hide with the A/C on.
Ha. Good point Bert!! Don't forget though I fish my little 18 ft in 20 degree temps all the time in the fall searching out Tog!
@Jay U !!
@@reaperfishingnj8623 Ya defiantly worked hard on the vid! I really Appreciate it Capt. The Tog vids. you put out are epic!! It was 120* in Woodland Hills CA. I'm a A/C tech. Dreaming of 20* & Tog!!
nice fish. what happened to the teak rocket launcher?
Thanks Broudy. Seems like it delaminated quite a bit. Capt Zac is on it.
I redid my teak fighting chair this spring. They are a pain to keep maintained but look amazing when they are in good shape
NJ Brand would love to do a collab with you guys getting on these fish!
beautiful day beautiful fish.
thanks as always Jon.
Why do you say bub?
Strange right Aidan??? For some reason a few years ago my dad just started calling me and my brother and just about everyone bub. No clue why. I guess it just stuck.....
@@reaperfishingnj8623 lol can’t believe you answered man😂. Love the videos man. At least there’s a good answer for you saying bub all the time 😂. Keep the awesome videos coming!
What a trip!! Thinking of heading out Monday for some tog and hopefully yellowfin too around the 30. Love the videos capt!!
Awesome trip! What do you do for work?
Thanks so much> I'll keep that private for now

Kick ass trip bro
Thanks so much Chris!
absolutely insane day yewwwwww🤙🏼🤟🏼
Darn right brother! This you Justin??? If so you should be studying!!
Chris Picciotti hahaha yes it is and i was, this vid was my break lol!
That was a monster!
Sure was Pete! Thanks as always for watching.
Just finished up hand cranking 7 tiles back to back at 100meters deep lol
whoa!
Do you think a rod rated 50 to 80 lbs is to heavy for fishing for tilefish or should I stick with 30 to 80 lb rods
lighter!
Try using the rosies for big golden bait
ooh. that's a great idea Braxton. Thanks!!
Reaper Fishing NJ I got a nice one doing that
Small Rosie butterflied out and dropped down equals snowy grouper 😂
we got a 13 lb blueline tile down here in the norfolk canyon the other day. love your videos man.
That's awesome! Thanks so much for watching@
New subscriber. Good times, Cap'n!
Welcome aboard!
😳
I work at a small hotel on the Eastern Shore of MD and some fishermen told me thus was the type of fish they were after now that I've seen your video I'm all the wiser tthanks.
thanks so much for watching!!!
My pleasure
I need to charter you ASAP
sorry we are not a charter. This is all just friends n family
Must be nice to be your friend. Lol I’ve never been tile fishing what electric reel would you recommend ?
@@robertmooring8575 Yeah. they've got it rough. I really like the Daiwa Tanacom. It's not a ton of money. Requires little maintenance. And it's caught us a ton of fish. Also fishwinch.com. They have electric modification kits for existing reels.
250-300 foot golden tile spot? Lmao
Yes that's correct Chris. We are mostly fishing for the greys in the first shallow spot but there are goldens there too. You can see we push much deeper for the bigger ones. typically for goldens we are 550-700. Thanks for watching!
Nice day, top to bottom, catch them all
That's the plan!
awesome fish MAN!
Thanks!!
Great Job, I love an electric reel! HA
Oh heck yea Lance!! Thanks as always for watching
When bottom fishing for tilefish, tautog, seabass, do you use a leader line too connect the main line, or use the main line (braid) to connect straight to the rig
Straight to the rig.
