- The 'Ballad of a Soldier' is a song devoted to the deeds of the soldiers of the Red Army. Performed by the Red Army Choir in 1982, conducted by Boris Alexandrov.
On the 2nd of February 1943 the Battle of Stalingrad, the bloodiest battle of the whole Second World War, ended.
Casualties* are estimated between 750'000 and 850'000 on the Axis side and more than 1'100'000 on the Soviet side, including more than 40'000 civilians.
*The military counts dead, wounded, captured, missing and deserters as casualties as they cannot be used in combat.
Note: During WW2 the Soviet High Command censored the names of commanders, units and settlements to not give the enemy to much information about their own troop movements.

Settlement N = Any possible village, town or city. Universal relatability for every soldiers, so they could self-insert their experiences.
"Town NN" is well known in Russia because it many times appeared in literature, so "Dead souls" and "Revisor" by Nikolai Gogol' and many other books.
Also in this song not "town N" is mentioned, but "village Enskiy" (if "Энском" is a name of the village) or "village near town Ensk", (if "Энском" is a name of town near that village) which is nearly the same. "Town Ensk" was used in Russian literature for same purposes, as "town NN".
Glory to the brave defenders od Stalingrad and the motherland! *salutes* HEROES OF THE EARTH. Thanks for liberation from Czech republic!

Good to see czech people with brain. Its total bullshit about Marshal Konev in Czech Republic. We remember it,and never forget about his Monument.
@@БулатТимиргазин yeah monuments are being destroyed all over europe and monuments build to someone like Stepan Bandera, he murdered ukrainians too mother of my russian teacher was blackmailed that if she will not stop teaching in russian then (you know what) (she was teacher too and at those times in western ukraine there wasn't enough teachers)
Well but history repeats itsself
@@lordmichael0714 yeee...You not from Russia or some post-soviet country's ye?
We here in post-soviet area everyvone remember of ww2 cost and the fallen in Great Patriotic War,a normal people on our country.
@@БулатТимиргазин our country was communist and was part of the warsaw pact but today we don't remember anything, we barely even learn about eastern front at school despite it was the most important part of the war
Edit: but while we were in communist we had victory day parades as in russia and it was also cool

This song actually brought a tear to my eye, what a beautiful song
chilling music, wonderfull hommage to the men who fought and bled. It's great that we get people who immortalize these unknown pieces of history on the internet!
Viva os defensores de Stalingrado!
All the time I listen to this mighty song I get chills from top to bottom
Had the Red army lost the Battle of Stalingrad everybody in Eastern Europe today would not even be born including those celebrating the movement lead by the failed Austria painter would never came to be
How true this is! Unfortunately, most of those little children don't possess the intellectual capacity to think thus far.
Thank you Russian soldiers for defeating Nazis. Much respect and love from Poland!
They needed help from America, Canada, and Australia.
got chills from this song
Me too.
Sent chills down my spine
Stalingrad gives us strength on our way to world communism, just as Stalingrad gave the oppressed peoples the decisive strength to defeat Hitler fascism in their own country.
Wolgograd will be renamed in the name of proletarian internationalism and with the solidarity of all proletarian internationalists around the world!
Long live Stalingrad, the heroic city of Stalin!
beatifull soviet march beatiful world march

This isn't Russia, my German friend. This was the Soviet Union, which included other republics such as Ukraine, Belarus, the -stan countries, the Baltics, ect. Not just Russia
@@adrv7919no shit Sherlock
@@adrv7919 Yeah,actually, USSR included 15 republics
@@adrv7919 all of these republics came out of russian empire just to let you know ^^

As citizen of Russia I can say, and I have to say:
Russia began aggressive war in Ukraine. This war has no any other reasons to still go, people from both sides have no any other reasons to still kill each other, but will of Vladimir Putin.
No to war. ☮️
@@user-iv2dj5so4d Tell this to the Ukrainians that tried to kill Russian language and culture in Donbass, then shelled civilians when they resisted.
@@EnemyAtom65 Ukrainian government wanted to kill russian language so hard, that whole campaign of Zelensky in 2019 presidential election was in Russian, mayor of Mariupol before 24.02 mostly spoken Russian and Mariupol city administration website had two versions: in Ukrainian and in Russian.
Here is video from Ugledar, small town in eastern Ukraine: (time code 6:25)

It doesn't looks like "killing of Russian language"
For our English speaking friends, who are reading this: the video is in Russian and, unfortunately, there aren't English subs, so I will explain:
Ukrainian deputy at some holiday is asked by journalist in Ukrainian, but ansewrs in Russian. Situations like this are common for whole Ukraine.
Should I continue?
@@EnemyAtom65 source? Recordings? As much as its obvious how Ukraine is currently being whitewashed in the western media, I can't help myself but be skeptical of the russian word as well, considering a shit ton of things. Who's the writer of this ballad???
Melody: Vasily Solovyov-Sedoi, text: Mikhail Matusovski.
