  • What a great idea, the father is having his high school varsity jacket restored to give to his daughter for her high school years to wear. So completely disassembled, cleaned, new leather sleeves, collar, wrist bands, waist bands, new lining, new pocket edges along with new pockets. And it’s DONE. It turned out great.

Steve, you did an amazing job on my jacket - thank you! I presented it to my daughter over the weekend and we watched your video together. She was amazed, impressed and delighted with the care and imagination you put into the restoration. I am very happy with the leather replacing all the old faux/plastic material - now it's the way it should have been in the first place, making my jacket truly "better than new". It's come a long way since 1978! It's too bad the cuffs & collar don't match the blue of the body, but replacing the old was definitely the way to go, and you can't have everything. We're very happy - thanks again! - Cal

Cal, what a pleasure to hear out from Steve's customers, thanks for stopping by and sharing with us all.
I wouldn't worry that much about the cuffs and collar matching, they'll eventually worn out and color will fade in time, I think it'll eventually integrate as a whole.

Your little bug was a Carpet beetle larvae. They eat natural fibres, similar to a clothes moth larvae. He was most likely eating the jacket. Love your work Steve, from a viewer in U.K.

A major point of the project was to replace the faux leather with the real thing - it should have come with leather in the first place! The phony stuff was wearing/splitting when the jacket was just a year or two old.

Wrapping those snaps was pretty cool. I was thinking you'd find someone to powdercoat them. Fasteners are always the hardest thing to fix. My brother came over a few weeks ago to cut his belt down and add some holes. It was a decorative belt with 12 gauge shell casings and Ihad to move one. They had used a small brass speedy rivet to go in the center to look like a primer. I didn't have one to look the same. I ended up using a #14 copper rivet and sanded the head down in a drill. Ended up looking great but had me head scratching for awhile. I think that why I like watching you work. It is always interesting to see how you problem solve.
