The Hugo Games were the corner stone of my childhood and Hugo still id the greatest hero of my childhood. It is so sad that he is not around anymore, but it is understandable as he is 33 years old. Nonetheless all of his games have a special place in my heart and I loved every single second of all the Hugo games I have played. Rest in peace Hugo, you will be missed.😞😭
People talking about playing this games in their house, when I was a child in my country (Argentina) there was a live tv program that you call to "play" by calling them so the host told you what buttons to press in your telephone, if you know the technology of that time its pretty obvious the kid wasn´t actually in control lmao but it was a way that they could feel like they play it, kinda like letting your little sibling use the unplugged controlled but in live tv
HUGO definitely has a whole history of how it evolved with the times. From ITE in the 1990s to the current day endless runner mobile games. And based on this video, HUGO was pretty much in just about every aspect of game genres and types. No wonder why a lot of people in Europe loved him.
So the Hugo started out as a psudo-3D interactive game. It then branched out to point and click mini-game collections on PC and some more traditional 2D platformers on handhelds. At the beginning of the 00s, it started a series of Crash Bandicoot clones, and then it quickly became a shovelware franchise of anything and anything.
Right. I grew up with this franchise here in Portugal. We had a popular TV show for kids where you could call in and enter a contest to play the game via telephone input with the host's help. That always captivated me. Then they started including the old Windows games in cereal boxes as prizes and we would buy them. It's unfortunate that the franchise has been milked and no "real" game has been made in a decade, but I still appreciate it for the fond memories.
I loved Hugo a great deal in my childhood, but because of his proportions and staring into the screen, I always had nightmares of him and was afraid of the dark for the longest time because I thought he might be hiding in every shadow to bite me. I feel even to this day that the Danish VA for Hugo always fit him the best, even when I played the Dark Mirror with English dub.
I wish they put up the earlier Hugo games on Steam. I wanna play the forest, train, mountain climb, plane, skateboard, diving, crystal cave and log river levels again plus play some of those games I never got the chance to play as a kid, teen or young adult.
So many games so many genres so little quality... It worked as a tv interactive game but that's it... Hugo is a product of it's time that we look back severly blinded by nostalgia. And ITE Media is to blame really... we complain about pokemon games being rushed nowadays when we had Hugo... they come out so fast we get no time to get to know the characters within the Hugo universe.... Hugo is troll and he smiles... Hugolina , Rat Rit and Rut are there because they are... Scylla is just the evil one... Seriously I love hugo but I have to admit that past 2003 he had no room in this world and the weight of it's popularity in the 90s is what blinded ITE Media and eventually what killed their brand.
I remember Hugo Jungle Island introduced multiple new interesting characters with Don Croco and the monkey underlings, Ferdinand and Jean Paul. But alas they didn't really go anywhere with it. The jungle island games only featured 6 games each, 3 of them were even simpler than your average Hugo minigame (I'm talking memory, simeon says, extended rock, paper, scissors and such). As a franchise, it definitely had its Charme though but with competition like Nintendo, Sony, Sega etc. there was no way for this franchise to prevail. And instead of creating a big minigame library that could be somewhat stitched together to a bigger adventure they continued to release a small amount of minigames per game. It's sad reall that this franchise will be completely forgotten in a couple years
The 3d platforming titles were the ones that were pretty good, the first two seemed fine, but ud say theyre mostly minigame collections like the jungle islands. Once they started to do those learning games with minigames the quality dropped and the games started to be pretty not as interesting. There were those weird genre titles but really theu look just as meh. Than agent hugo was kinda fun.... And again moee of those learning games. Yes i kinda dobt like those simple learning games in geberal. And at the end in late years of the franchise they seemed to do very simple platformers with minimal effort or stright up ripoffs, especially during the modern mobile era...
Wow they look very interesting. I remember playing Hugo on Sony PS1 when I was a kid. I thought it was fun but it's not very good. I also thought I found it too hard. I have Hugo Retro Mania on my Samsung tablet and I have Hugo Troll Race 2 on my Samsung phone as well. I'm sure most of Hugo games have been released in Europe (including Russia 🇷🇺) and Australia 🇦🇺 (including New Zealand 🇳🇿 as well). Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪
Huho Bukazoom is my favorite Me and my sister always try to get out of bounds. We just did it today. Second time we make it. After the character fall out of the map and fell very long the game crashed!
7:41 and 10:47 Omg my childhood!!! These were so exciting to me back in the day and the 2D PS1 titles were alright and fascinating too, also looking back, those germs are built like the Pokemon Geodude. I then bought Black Diamond Fever 2 years ago and it's the most fine PS1 game I've ever played. 12:07 Wait omg this too!! 13:26 And... This too... But it never stood out, it was rather boring.
