I’m a 43 year old black Jamaican man. I moved from New York (Bronx) to Atlanta back in 2006 growing up in New York, most people in my circle used it but there was a clear demarcation of who could and would use it. While growing up in New York that change when rap music started to blow up. I just remember in college when I started being in close proximity to white kids from Long Island and Asia kids from Queens using it. There was a time in New York where fights would break out for people using it. That word has gone through so many phases. I’m trying myself not to say it but it rolls so easily off the tongue. 😆
Black girl here💁🏾♀️. Love the podcast guys☺️. Me personally(make sure to digest that part before responding to me) I'm against other races using the word. Even I slow down on using it especially when around friends of other races. I know it's a word that has been used ambiguously. However, that doesn't negate the origination of the word which was ment to oppress. Some may say, well that was back in the day...some of us still have grandparents who remember back then way to well, or even what has happened with police brutality and more. Yes, we have to lead by example, and you cant control everyone, but the word packs history. Not a kind one. Anywho, thank y'all for an amazing show, hopeful to see you guys live one day ✨holding hope to see y'all near NC✨
Love the podcast🥰 I'm Black🤙🏾 and as a military kid I've lived in diverse areas and pw areas and no matter where I lived I never felt comfortable hearing non black folks say it but if they were bipoc I use to let that shit slide. My ex who's Asian thought it was fine to say it because he was with me and had some black friends even though we had the conversation before hand and I had to check him on it. Idk it just makes me feel so uncomfortable and honestly unsafe around the non black folks who use it. There's such a deeply rooted negative history surrounding it and the people who use it aren't the people it was used against so it feels like a jab even if they don't mean for it to be. 😮💨
On Episode 118, timestamp 39:59. You said that by June, David will be skinny and Tim will finish his script. Not sure about the script, but David is definitely still fat.
As a black person, I'm offended if you say it and you're not black given what the word represents for black people. People that say "Oh you have a pass" are setting yall up. Just because they're not offended, doesn't mean every other black person isn't. Doesn't matter if it's ga or er even though er is much more intentional.
Born and raised in the South, and the nigga pass was not happening in school, maybe on certain blocks, but definitely not in middle or high school. I think it was a different culture for y'all in Cali. I don't think anyone should feel comfortable using the word if they aren't the target of the word when it's used negatively. I think the "it's just a word" argument is BS, but I also know I can't control other people's language. If you're not black and you just HAVE to use that word at least check with the black folk near you to make sure they aren't offended. I've told multiple peers that they can say whatever they want, but if they're around me, not to use that word.
Personally I feel like if you gone use the word to my face and I actively ask you not to then you’re just not respecting me and I simply won’t be around you anymore. Whether you tryna be familial or just being disrespectful doesn’t matter. Now if you use the word privately or with other black people that are cool with that is none of my business and I really don’t give a fuck. Yeah you’d be cooler if you didn’t, but I’m not finna overwatch what u do in your time not around me. It’s a respect thing overall for my culture but also for me personally as yo friend Big respect to Tim for respecting the people around you/seeing their discomfort and choosing not to use the word. Really appreciate that as a younger black dude🤝
Yo 22 year old black guy from Kentucky and I graduated 1 of like 6 black people in my grade and honestly i don’t care if you use the n word around me as long as it’s not with any ill intent as long as it’s funny or inferring im cool I caught some flack for it but also made some great moments you wouldn’t get otherwise my momma used to hate it but I don’t mind at all think its just a generational thing keep up the good work
Funny how I don't even remember the emotional moments in the Fresh Prince. Probably because I don't watch comedy shows to see emotional moments. I just wanna laugh! The emotional moments in sitcoms are super American (and lame) to us Europeans. So hearing you enjoyed that, kinda confirms it. lol
@@Timothy Americans do it on another level. Ours are less dramatic/sad and everyone on the couch stands up during those moments to get a drink or go to the bathroom. lol
24:27 when David found out his mom was being shady behind his back with one of my favorite clips 😂😂😂 I do not casually use the N-word. The way I talk makes me sound like a white girls saying it so it’s offensive to myself 😅 lol my kids tried after hearing the grandparents use it and had to stop it.
I tried some west nigarian food lately and was not a fan.. Everything was alright. Unecessarily spicy. And if I were try again I would get beef instead of goat, the goat wasn't soft and difficult to chew. But I had a piece of beef in the other egusi and THAT piece was DELICIOUS! Also the malt drink was fire.
I really can’t stand smacking and it KILLS me when you guys are eating but I love the content so I’m here weekly but OMG it’s like nails on a chalkboard hearing the smacking. 😩😩
black youth here: I've always hated when other races use the n word. I think people forget that it is a slur and that it started as a form of oppression. People often don't stop and think about the impact of language. When I was younger, I never said it bc it was never used in my household and I knew how hateful of a word it is. Now that I'm older (19) I started using it a bit, mostly when singing/rapping along to music, but it still just feels extremely disrespectful when people of other races use it, especially when its not friendly (which I hear all too often). its like using any other slur, bad.
As someone who was born and raised in toronto 42 years ago, i can tell you, some guys, usually white guys, had that twang for some reason. But it was light, and just came out funny once in a while. And yeah, we used to clown em when it came out like that. But all of a sudden, all the kids are just taking it too far. It sounds dumb. Listen to Kardinal's tune 'bacardi slang'. That how we talked back then. Better still, watch an interview of him or something.
I can’t wait for the R word to make a comeback as a slang. Literally heard it on an episode of Yuyu Hakasho and it reminded me of how kids used to say that
I’m from LA (south central) and go to school in pedro. Everyone in highschool in LA say the n word. If they white they might get a side eye but it’s pretty normalized and a things still. And saying Gay😂
Dying during the Toronto accent segment 😂 as a Torontonian…I have no idea how it evolved. I think it was originally a milder version associated with some “hoods” but I think the joke just got out of control
As a gay girl, my group of gay friends we stay calling everyone gay lol. Our only straight couple in the group also say when we’re gay. Or we’ll also say “aw you’re so straight” lol it’s just fun teasing no harm
Red light district in Korea is actually real and not just love hotels. Kind of like Amsterdam but sadder looking. A street block of small rooms with windows facing the alley with a woman in each room just standing or sitting there. Almost felt like a human zoo. Of course a bunch of them will pop out and try to call you over. I think a lot of them are trafficked though. 😢
It's never an automatic hands response when other races say it, unless it's the hard ER and/or being used in a derogative way. Thank you for the record keeping

Appreciate y’all bringing out the West African Food 🥘, David talking about the Egusi stew got me hungry & Nostalgic!

I looked it up too and would love to as well!!
I been going to these SoCal food festivals just hoping I can find and bother them 🥹❤️
When He told David to make a slang word I thought of the one Zoey 101 episode when Michael was trying to get “drippin” to stick as a slang word. 😂
I work in CA schools and yes, the word is still very commonly used.
Man Jason Cheny would’ve had fun with this episode lol 😂
Split the "red sea" & all kinds of other shit😅😅😅😅
Just visited Toronto and the accent is hella strong with younger, urban communities. The Jamaican/Caribbean influence is strong!

Hmm that’s silly and false because the UK version of the Office has lots of emotional and deep moments
