      Why do the universities have to go through these phases to be able to look at a contract that they sign or the president of the university did they should always have access to anything that they put their systems to roll to read up the new stipulations in rules that they come doing that era

      The ACC / ESPN have a lot to hide, and should be terrified of the Discovery phase. I pray this goes past Litigation and all of their dirty laundry is waved around for the world to smell. To me, this is bigger than a skirmish over the Grant of Rights.

      @@tonyking1437 Maybe b/c the ACC schools were incompetent & didn't have good lawyers. They were acting like scared children and just signed whatever. They thought the conference was going to implode and a lot of them didn't think they had landing sports in other Power Conferences. The one's complaining now should have never agreed. If they were so confident in their value, prowess, etc...as they claim, they should have left when MD did. MD only paid 31.4M, chump change in retrospect.

    The key word is "discovery." I am guessing the ACC, ESPN/Disney, CFP, SEC and others involved would not want that happening. This could impact college football in a big way and no telling what comes out. With that in mind, I actually see settlement before next season. Besides FSU's lawsuit the Attorney General has opened an investigation. That is a total separate legal issue with different group of attorney's and investigators. Between the two, I am guessing settlement deal will be coming. My guess and opinion totally.

  • @trenitty81
    @trenitty81 8 місяців тому +8

    They’ll come to a settlement of around $130-$150 million and that will be the end of the ACC

    • @marcjohnson8488

      If you are correct or close anyway and the ACC collapses, does that mean the other institutions will have to pay $130-$150 million or just FSU ?

    • @trenitty81
      @trenitty81 8 місяців тому +1

      @@marcjohnson8488 that’s a good question but when I say the end, I mean they will invite teams like smu/liberty etc. to replace FSU/Clemson. FSU makes so much money for this conference and the ACC understands that! That’s why they don’t want them to leave. I think in the end, FSU & Clemson will leave and the rest will probably just ride it out.

    • @grobble8954

      The fact that it would implode the ACC is exactly why the ACC will not settle for anything but full enforcement of monetary sums due or nearly close to it..ie...450M instead of 500M, They have to make the amount absolutely prohibitive. FSU with all their crying could just pay the amounts stipulated and what they agreed to with the GOR

    Good analogy by using the car purchase one day late penalty, however it seems to me $500 million of liquidated damages is probably fair in that if FSU bails it could destroy the very existence of the ACC.

    • @MichaelHarper666

      That means it's a lousy conference that should go away if one team leaving destroys it.

      The new grant of rights was signed because of Maryland's departure. The ACC had to protect its brand, and it did so. Anyone who disagreed had the right to not sign the grant of rights and go elsewhere. FSU signed it, just like every other member.

      USC and UCLA paid 50 million to get out of a Grant of Rights ONE early. We have to get out of a deal that is going to last for more than 10 more years. Obviously, the price is going to have to be massively higher than what USC and UCLA paid.

      @@DNSKansas That was the 2013 GOR, in 2016 the conference negotiated a shitty deal with ESPN for the ACC Network and schools were given the same ultimatum, only THAT time the fee to leave was somewhere around $230 million, a number that no one at that time could have reasonably came up with. Of course, at that time, no one knew that re-alignment would go crazy and that the B1G and SEC would both end up with deals paying out double what the ACC pays out (if not more.)
      Hindsight is pretty wild though, at the beginning of 2013 when Maryland left for the B1G, FSU was talking with the Big 12 and ultimately stayed. If only FSU had left for the Big 12, we wouldn't be talking about this right now.

    If the amounts of the buyout were so egregious why did any ACC member sign it. If it's so common for all parties to get a copy of the signed agreement why didn't they work that into the contract. If I'm in the ACC shoes I'm saying everyone was aware of the penalties and it was just a couple years ago when it was signed. It's not like it's 2035(pretty sure the agreement ends in 2036) and they still are asking for 600 million or whatever the number is to get out of the Acc. If that's the case why are fast funding places still legal? Yes we will give you $1000 this week but if you don't pay it off by this Friday you have to pay 30% interest on that amount. Point being everyone is aware of the agreement when everything is signed

  • @grobble8954

    FSU argument it's too punitive is ludicrous. They agreed to to the terms of the breach..ie...exit fee. . The example of the car is silly, if you do not like the terms do not agree to the sale. If FSU didn't like the terms they could have left, like MD, under the old financial terms of departure. They didn't b/c nobody was really interesting. B10 was trying to lure UNC, UVA...SEC was were no into you at all, we have UF in the state.

    FSU struggled to beat a 4 loss team in the ACC championship game. Maybe FSU is right where they need to be....
    Contrast to an SEC team with 4 losses.... They are no where near the conference best....
    You guys in the panhandle need to man up and stop whining. Norvell lived and died by the portal. He needs to learn how to develop players instead of just using hired guns that stay one season....

      It’s ok to troll there’s some truth to the trolls point but the problem is he forgets the part that the SEC is clearly where fsu wants to be (big ten is fine too) and that if they stay in the acc there done being a major top tier program ( which is undeniable and if you try to deny that you make your opinion completely irrelevant) so with all that said I think that FSU is clearly doing what’s best for themselves and your point about the capability of FSU on the field is 99% irrelevant because they’ve proven to be a top 15-20 program at worst

      U r so wrong. U do realize they played that game w an 3rd string 17 yr old TRUE FRESHMAN. Their D held cards who avg 33 to 2 FGS! How can u make a post not doing at least a bit of due diligence? This is the problem, u have zero idea what u r talking about! FSU wants to compete and ACC is not the conference to compete in anymore! FSU WILL NOT CONTINUE to carry a conference and at the same time make 40 plus mil per yr less than teams they recruit against everyday! This is FSU, 3 NATTYS, not Wake Freaking FOREST
