A prosperous country must have very low poor people, meaning high GDP per capita. Till the day this index in China is as high as Singapore or Japan then I can believe communist really works as you say. =) Personally, I just hope the index in Vietnam is high enough, and dont need it to become biggest economies of low GDP per capita.

Lol, the previous Asian Tigers already lost their fuel, except for Korea and Taiwan who still averages a 4%~ growth. SG and HK is like 3-3.5%~. The Cubs are rising up damn quickly now, trying to regain lost ground in the 50s and 60s where the tigers took advantage of... Malaysia and Philippines have a consistent growth prospect of 5%~ and 6-7%~ respectively while Indo is not yet certain. Thailand tho may be facing a huge negative this year as riots halt growth.

Comparing countries by just nominal GDP figures is silly, because then you'll get China, India and Indonesia in the top 5. Forget India, even China still has as many poor people as Sub-Saharan Africa!! We should instead compare countries by GDP per capita. But you should know China became world's 2nd biggest economy because they have the biggest population. Let's check the GDP per capita and you will see the difference. A prosperous country must have very low poor people, meaning high GDP per capita. Till the day this index in China is as high as Singapore or Japan then I can believe communist really works as you say. =) Personally, I just hope the index in Vietnam is high enough, and dont need it to become biggest economies of low GDP per capita.

Comparing countries by just nominal GDP figures is silly, because then you'll get China, India and Indonesia in the top 5. Forget India, even China still has as many poor people as Sub-Saharan Africa!!
We should instead compare countries by GDP per capita. Then we get the Singaporeans, Hong Kongers, Japanese, South Koreans and Taiwanese making top 5. I didn't put Brunei in there because their sole income is oil. They never really developed human resource.
