My father was a Newark cop for 34 years. When he worked the patrol division in a "radio car" he wore (all the radio car cops wore them) a Schott black leather jacket. I still have it and it's a treasured possesion.

But u said u ordered your exact size u didn't size up and obviously it looks perfect on u. Maybe it worked out for u cuz ur thin? The schott customer service said that they recommend to size up one size on the 618 because they kept the original measurements on the jacket from when they first started making them in like the 20's or 30's and back then the body measurements on people were smaller than they are now (i took that to mean that obesity has increased but she didn't say that outright lol). I want that perfect fit like u so i'm hoping that when the jacket arrives it'll be a perfect fit. Plus i wanna be able to layer it with a hoodie but i don't want that baggy look i want it fit right like your's. Do you think that one size up would still look neat and tidy and wouldn't look any different than if u bought your actual exact size? or do you think that wearing one size up than your actual size makes a significant difference in how it looks on your torso?
Man Im blown away by just how well that 40yo jacket has held up. There aren't many things if any clothing wise you could buy today that would be as durable as these Schotts.

Dude, in all honesty, I really enjoyed your video and I have to say it’s not something I’d expect. Please don’t take this wrong. Schott being a NY/NJ tristate brand, I’ve always associated it with the NYC look and the rockers from here (Springsteen, Lou Reed etc). I don’t know where you are based but a wild guess is a southern state, where the quilted lining would feel too hot for the climate (another reason for not associate Schott with the southern states). But you hit all the right spots in terms of Schott details! Zipper, snap, model number! It’s a very insightful review from an original owner of an old 118, and all the design details back then! The fact you kept the tag and hanger and wore it everyday, Schott should pay you to be their “influencer”!! Bravo man
In the 1970’s Schott used the zipper pull with the V in it on all Perfectos. The pull on your brown 118 is most likely just a leftover from that old stock of zippers.

Yeah...fer the last decade or so they have cheapend up a bit with they`re plating . I`m with Vanson now because of quality and pricing . Schott needs to get they`re head out of they`re #ss.

Damn! $160 back in 1981 is equal to $447.61 now. Now they want $780. That's kinda overpriced, man. Hell, you can easily say that because as high as inflation is nowadays, it still hasn't caught up to being $160 being equal to $780. I get that they're heirloom jackets and will last multiple decades, but that's an entire paycheck dumped on a single item. If some random joe is working a minimum wage job, like most Americans are today, if he buys that jacket, then he literally doesn't eat for the next 2 weeks until his next paycheck comes in. He also doesn't get to drive to work. No gas money, etc. Schott really need to reevaluate their pricing. Some of them are in the $800 range and even up to $1,100. It's kinda BS, man. I'd LOVE to be able to support this actual made in America product. Believe me, I would. But, I'm going to buy a Straight to Hell Commando jacket. Look it up. It's badass and has a red quilted satin lining. Also, one more thing, your 618 jacket is horsehide, not steerhide.
I get what you mean. As with trench coats they have turned a utility and low cost garment you wear for practicality (and to an extent to look cool definitely) to a high fashion, luxury item. I can understand why but i wished they dialed down a bit.
In one of the videos (search youtube) featuring present owner of Schott, he says that the brand has been more popular internationally (10 Schott stores alone in Japan) than in the US. And with this whole back to the original / vintage themes that you find being popularized by Restoration Hardware, Ralph Lauren and others, the "old style" has been the rave particularly over the past 5 yrs or so. So not surprized that Schott would want to extract premium.
Now is 2024. and this is still probably best Schott Perfecto video on UA-cam.🤠

Their steerhide nowadays on the 618 is a bit thinner than from the 90s, back then was super stiff and thicker

I think about that too since i'm only 164 cm tall, but if the length of the jacket is 64', i think it still could fit well enough for me..

sounds like a 618 would fit your sizing....unless your wearing layers underniece then the 118 might be a better choice.
