How to open a Book of Thrift book bank manufactured by Bankers Utilities Company

Hey thanks so much for this! My dad has one of these that he's had since he was a kid in the 50s. It did have a key at one point, but that's long gone. We've been trying to open it on and off for the last several years before finally coming across this video. Got it open right away. Thank you!!

Have a Bank of American one I bought at an antique store 30 years ago. Popped right open. Thank you!

Got the 'key' in there properly. Looks the same as the video. Push and turn hard then it just twists. Won't pop the box. Bummer. Is it possible that the lock mechanism inside could be damaged to make this solution not work?
