I’d love to grow some of these! It would be perfect for my 1/4 acre property. I like drying currants & making scones with them. I just discovered your channel & I’m newly subbed!

When can you plant gooseberries and currants? I missed being able to plant in the spring and was wondering is it ok to plant in the summer or fall. Do they need to be covered/wrapped for winter?

Both are very cold hardy surviving down to zone 3 and some wild varieties can survive down to zone 1 or 2. So they wouldn’t need to be covered. Best times to plant are spring and fall.

We planted black currant sticks about 3 years ago and they grew into bushes but they do not produce any fruit. We live in New York State and have clay soil. I did add composted cow manure last spring, but still no fruit. Any suggestions?

I wonder how they would do in the shade in hot humid Florida? My real concern is chill hours but I’ve tried apples and they defy the odds and produce for me…
Do you think they would work? Do you know anyone growing them in the south?

I have a friend that grows great in high humidity conditions and they do well. She does open the bush up more than I do to allow for more air flow. We are not humid here at all. Just HOT!
