  • Keith Plant from Western Aquarium Fish was kind enough to invite us (cameras and all!) into the Western Aquarium Fish facility shortly (literally hours) after a collection was unpacked.
If you haven't seen the beautiful Western Australian Wilsoni coral yet, you are in for a treat.
There are 2 different types of Wilsoni, a colder water one and a warmer water one. Let's take a look through these beautiful corals and we can walk through the differences in both appearance and care requirements.
If your LFS hasn't got a stock list from Western Aquarium Fish, you know what to do - tell them to get in touch!

The coldwater type is the most frustrating coral I've ever owned in almost 15 years of reef keeping. Of course I did not know they came from that cold of temperatures when I got it. It looked great for a few weeks, even started new growth where it was cut, but it bleached shortly after and has continued a slow slow decline. It won't die but still manages to look worse and worse over many months. It's too bad because they certainly are beautiful.

I stumbled upon their instagram today! They seem like the only people that have temperate wilsoni coral care down to a science. I just traded my sump for a cold water wilso that was in bad shape, I wish I could pick Keith's mind to learn more about how he handles these guys.

Shoot him a message on Facebook mate, I can promise he’ll reply - but there is a fair chance he will

@@ParkersReef Worth a shot. I could use all of the insight I can get. Thanks a lot for this video, it's very helpful for many of us scratching our heads on how to take care of temperate wilsonis. There are a lot of threads about this at the moment on various sites, namely r2r.

Reef2Reef is great, best forum about these days.
Keith is a good guy and loves Wilsoni corals - so I’d say he’d be happy to chat :)

Parkers Reef touched base with Keith, thanks for the recommendation. My wilso now has a few hundred brown spots and is coloring up. Trading my sump for this white guy wasn’t in vain. Definitely dropped a sub for this, thanks for making this video.

You’d be surprised, these were ridiculously cheap. Even the nicest rainbow in that whole tub was only $350!

They can vary, but for an LPS coral I find they grow quickly! Care is easy too, just gotta watch temperature swings

Too bad a lot of these cold water pieces are shipped elsewhere by unscrupulous people and sold to folks with no warning. I’m not saying these guys do that though.

Keith complains about the same thing. This guy knows cold water wilsos better than anyone else. I wish someone would interview him on how to properly care for these guys.
