I don't know what are the promises Kejriwal made as free stuffs but I can say for sure that it is not as worse as it is in the South, especially in Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and I think also in Kerala. Here, Money before the election and free household goods after the election is so common. Most of those stuffs are either of poor quality or useless for most (like TV or Grinder when many already own one). Free stuffs are not always bad. Free Health Care, Education, basic necessities like Water and Electricity are really good as They add to the productivity of the Population as a whole. Non-productive or leisure/luxury stuffs given for free is actually counterproductive.

Military expenditure has nothing to do with Sri Lanka's crisis 🤣🤣🤣. This is a crisis created due to shortage of foreign exchange, corruption, politicians robbing peoples taxes, etc. National defense is the most important thing to any country. For any country number one is national defense and second is the economy, if there is no safe and security in the country then investments wont come and businesses cannot operate well. If India reduces its military expenditure then it will create a security threat to India from PK, China, etc.

After the war the elected governments did not implement reforms and long term economic development plans. If Mahinda Rajapaksa or 2015-2019 Ranil's government implemented reforms and long term economic development plans Sri Lanka will not face a crisis like this. Countries like Japan, Germany, South Korea also faced brutal wars. But they developed due to post war reforms their politicans implemented.

@@N5cool Firsl of all the Sri Lankan army is not mine, it belongs to the government. Not rebuilding North and East well is not good, but that is not a reason for Sri Lanka's crisis. Reducing taxes is good to attract FDI like Singapore, Dubai, Switzerland do but it should have been done by experts advise and with a proper strategy.
China is to blame for many of the issues in Sri Lanka for sure. $12 billions plus in loans at 4-6% interest for 15 years vs IMF 1-2% interest for 30-48 years. They planned the entire debt trap and now the corrupt family is claiming they have no clue. Hambamtota port was just one of many projects where the CCP/China loaned $1 Billion but Chinese companies using Chinese workers were paid with the same money China had loaned Sri Lanka with Chinese money. Also, the Chinese made Sri Lanka keep a large portion of the loan money in Chinese banks so they would control the money. The Chinese controlled the project for they were able to get more money when they wished. So, you see, bad loan, high interest, and the money went full circle back to China. Once Sri Lanka defaulted guess what? the greatest asset of Sri Lanka was given to China for 99 years for less than $1 billion dollars that didn't help the SL economy in any way. This same procedure can be found in many Chinese projects all over Sri Lanka. How? well, a government run by family in all the high positions is easily corrupted and China did exactly that. They already mentioned the political influence and other objectives of the CCP in the episode.

To all those who go for fractional share ownership be extremely careful, you don't own the fractional share. The broker or the application you use owns it and gives you the partial ownership. These are really murky areas, and the returns have the potential to be greatly manipulated. The no commission claim also needs to be looked at as they could make money by order flow and with fractional trading you can't guess how much the actual cost is, this further makes the return more difficult ascertain. I would suggest to open a traditional brokerage account with a us broker directly yourself and pay all the fees,charges etc . This would also help you with legal issues such as taxation.

Dear bisbo, please understand organic farming is the kind of farming our ancestors used to farm and there is no way the current population can sustain as organic farming is not at all scientific in 21st century. The crop output has reduced drastically since Sri Lanka adopted organic farming. Even many people in India believes organic farming is some kind of exotic farming practices. Adopting organic farming is one of the main reason for the current food shortage and reduced export of cash crops which in turn reduced further foreign reserves in SL.
When looking at a problem you have to look at the overall impact. The current farming practices are an environmental and health disaster waiting to happen. The amount of fertilizers and pesticides kill the soil and are responsible for the rise in so many diseases in people, apart from the environmental damage caused by the manufacturing of these chemicals. True, you cannot overnight turn to organic farming as any new technology has to be done in stages in a pyramidal fashion. For organic farming to be sustainable, good quality soil is an important aspect.
@@qwertyman9560 its govt job to regulate the manufacturing of harmful fertilizers and pesticides and can't blame the scientific method. Many farmers either use substandard quality or more quantity of fertilizers/pesticides which may result in leaching to ground waters and harming others, which can be tackled by giving awareness. We have many examples in history where millions died due to the unscientific method of farming. The big picture is the population to be fed with sustainable scientific farming practices.

It's not just rajapaska every ruler there implemented extreme socialist policies like Free Education, Health and Food to win elections without generating revenue and relying on Tourism and few other imports. Our election commission of India must ban free bies for political parties to promise except food(which India has surplus)

Lesson for those who support Kejriwal's free "everything" style of politics..
I don't know what are the promises Kejriwal made as free stuffs but I can say for sure that it is not as worse as it is in the South, especially in Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and I think also in Kerala. Here, Money before the election and free household goods after the election is so common. Most of those stuffs are either of poor quality or useless for most (like TV or Grinder when many already own one). Free stuffs are not always bad. Free Health Care, Education, basic necessities like Water and Electricity are really good as They add to the productivity of the Population as a whole. Non-productive or leisure/luxury stuffs given for free is actually counterproductive.

Let me add my 2 cents.....a Tamilian doesn't trust a Lankan and a Lankan doesn't trust a Tamilian because of some painful incidents in their past that no one wants to forget. So no matter how much corrupted the politician may be, a Lankan will vote for his own and a Tamilian will vote for his own. Now this politician can be the most corrupted but it doesn't matter as long as he belongs to their own language or religion or caste. People think that as long as the person belongs to their own ethnic group he will be the best choice for the country or at least to the people of his own community. Once he wins the election then slowly the whole drama unfolds......a corrupted person, no matter what region or community he belongs to, is still corrupted. And corrupted people do corrupted things.....and the innocent people pay the price.
Same case with our South States.
Wonder how many parties come to power in TN. Only dravidian chauvinists... Sometimes we must introspect.
Tamils are Sri Lankan. Main ethnicities are Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim. All are Sri Lankans.

Military expenditure has nothing to do with Sri Lanka's crisis 🤣🤣🤣. This is a crisis created due to shortage of foreign exchange, corruption, politicians robbing peoples taxes, etc.
National defense is the most important thing to any country. For any country number one is national defense and second is the economy, if there is no safe and security in the country then investments wont come and businesses cannot operate well.
If India reduces its military expenditure then it will create a security threat to India from PK, China, etc.

Think of the '000s of young men who joined the military only to end up killing their own countrymen, if foreign investment had come to 🇱🇰, they could have got much better jobs.
@@N5cool Sri Lanka is not the only country that was suffering from a civil war. And the war ended in 2009. During the war and post war there was no shortage of foreign exchange and essentials. After the war the elected governments did not implement reforms and long term economic development plans. Both govt and opposition parties were blaming each other and was opportunistic and only thought of power. If Mahinda Rajapaksa or 2015-2019 Ranil's government implemented reforms and long term economic development plans Sri Lanka will not face a crisis like this.
Countries like Japan, Germany, South Korea also faced brutal wars. But they developed due to post war reforms their politicans implemented.

@@N5cool Firsl of all the Sri Lankan army is not mine, it belongs to the government. Not rebuilding North and East well is not good, but that is not a reason for Sri Lanka's crisis. Reducing taxes is good to attract FDI like Singapore, Dubai, Switzerland do but it should have been done by experts advise and with a proper strategy.

China is to blame for many of the issues in Sri Lanka for sure. $12 billions plus in loans at 4-6% interest for 15 years vs IMF 1-2% interest for 30-48 years. They planned the entire debt trap and now the corrupt family is claiming they have no clue. Hambamtota port was just one of many projects where the CCP/China loaned $1 Billion but Chinese companies using Chinese workers were paid with the same money China had loaned Sri Lanka with Chinese money. Also, the Chinese made Sri Lanka keep a large portion of the loan money in Chinese banks so they would control the money. The Chinese controlled the project for they were able to get more money when they wished. So, you see, bad loan, high interest, and the money went full circle back to China. Once Sri Lanka defaulted guess what? the greatest asset of Sri Lanka was given to China for 99 years for less than $1 billion dollars that didn't help the SL economy in any way. This same procedure can be found in many Chinese projects all over Sri Lanka. How? well, a government run by family in all the high positions is easily corrupted and China did exactly that. They already mentioned the political influence and other objectives of the CCP in the episode.

All things aside, the lesson for other countries to get from this is, Have an exporting economy. Not a Importing one like ours. Have manpower not only brains but also small workers. Country is the most educated in South Asia. But, not the country to make stuff for our own usage. We have money, But, LKR is down, we don't have goods to buy from that money. Everyone thought about their self and migrating but, not about the country we stay. We lived a super life for years as compared to other countries and now fell. This would have happened even if the countries who make goods for us fell. Either way it came to this, now we have to rise again like a centuries old civilization. They should have kept our own companies when they opened in 1977. All politics sucks for us now tbh

To all those who go for fractional share ownership be extremely careful, you don't own the fractional share. The broker or the application you use owns it and gives you the partial ownership.
These are really murky areas, and the returns have the potential to be greatly manipulated. The no commission claim also needs to be looked at as they could make money by order flow and with fractional trading you can't guess how much the actual cost is, this further makes the return more difficult ascertain.
I would suggest to open a traditional brokerage account with a us broker directly yourself and pay all the fees,charges etc .
This would also help you with legal issues such as taxation.
Can't the broker do the same manipulations with whole shares as well ?

Dear bisbo, please understand organic farming is the kind of farming our ancestors used to farm and there is no way the current population can sustain as organic farming is not at all scientific in 21st century. The crop output has reduced drastically since Sri Lanka adopted organic farming. Even many people in India believes organic farming is some kind of exotic farming practices. Adopting organic farming is one of the main reason for the current food shortage and reduced export of cash crops which in turn reduced further foreign reserves in SL.

When looking at a problem you have to look at the overall impact. The current farming practices are an environmental and health disaster waiting to happen. The amount of fertilizers and pesticides kill the soil and are responsible for the rise in so many diseases in people, apart from the environmental damage caused by the manufacturing of these chemicals. True, you cannot overnight turn to organic farming as any new technology has to be done in stages in a pyramidal fashion. For organic farming to be sustainable, good quality soil is an important aspect.
@@qwertyman9560 its govt job to regulate the manufacturing of harmful fertilizers and pesticides and can't blame the scientific method. Many farmers either use substandard quality or more quantity of fertilizers/pesticides which may result in leaching to ground waters and harming others, which can be tackled by giving awareness. We have many examples in history where millions died due to the unscientific method of farming. The big picture is the population to be fed with sustainable scientific farming practices.
And we are also more in no. Or high population is also putting stress on res.
