  • On the afternoon of January 4th of 2024, a revenue service train had its brakes pulled and had to be taken out of service. It and another (1) train with passengers on it then made it to the 96th Street station and collided on a switch just north of the stop.
As a result, the entire 7th Avenue Line was impacted with (2) trains running via the Lexington Avenue Line with (1) and (3) trains running in two sections:
    (1) Line:
    1. Van Cortlandt Park-242nd Street to 96th Street
    2. Times Square-42nd Street to South Ferry
    (3) Line:
    1. Harlem-148th Street to 96th Street
    2. Times Square-42nd Street to New Lots Avenue
On the night on January 6th of 2024, the derailed sets would make their moves back to 207th Street Yard after being taken care of and coupled with work moves to ensure safe travel north. In this video, you'll see most of the trains make their way to the facility except for one of the sets which moved around midnight.
    Consists:
    (N) Locomotive 59 + RD410 + Locomotive 74 + 2271-2275 + 2415 (S)
    (N) Locomotive 81 + RD416 + Locomotive 51 + 2210-2206 (S)

    Update:
R62A sets 2206-2210 and 2271-2275 are back in service on the (1) line and are coupled together after temporary absence.
As for 2411-2414/2415 and 2176-2180, the fate is still unknown.

Some of the R62As got hit harder than others. I’ll admit it was a bit weird to catch these pass by - at least while I was filming

Great video and explanations. A little confused about the consist passing through 181 ST. You have 2415 in the rear and engines pulling in front I assume going north. Then at 207 ST yard lead the whole train is reversed. How did that happen?

The engines pulled the consist going north because they were in the front, then at 207th Street Yard the engines just pushed the train. It’s a push/pull consist which is more common on railroads but can happen on MTA work moves as well.

@@EnthusiastTheFanner Thanks for getting back. My bad. I forgot the 207 yard lead loops off the uptown local #1 local track. I thought it was on the downtown side. Duh! lol I've ridden that loop on a fan trip. Thanks for your channel and dedication. The push operation into 207 went well and ironically is similar to the 96th ST move that went bad apparently due to communications failure between the operator and lookout. The NTSB will recommend procedural chnges. All the best to all MTA employees and thanks for keeping us moving.

Can't believe that derailment happened. Will cars 2206-2210 return to service? Because I don't think that set is damaged as the set was in the rear during the derailment. Plus, maybe only this set might return to service.

The derailment itself is sad. So far, none of the sets have any updates besides that they're in the barn. 2206-10 is probably gonna survive, and possibly 2411-14/15 and 2271-75. I still don't know how I feel about 2176 being revived.
