Alway a pleasure to listen to Laura talk about history. Interesting how the war affected many different parts of industry and how people had to think outside the box. An example being the licence plate. Thanks
I absolutely love this series. Thank you so much. I am a lover of vintage license plates and learned today about the fiber-board plates of Virginia in 1944. Thank you!
Thank you. I wonder if you’ve visited the Wright Museum in Wolfboro, NH? It is a WWII museum that focuses almost exclusively on the Homefront effects and efforts of the war.
Laura, another great and informative presentation. I actually got some sense of the hardship people felt at the time. Living in the UK for a number of years, I learned that their rationing did not end until 1954!
Thanks for another informative and enthusiastic look into the archive. The contents are amazing but Miss Laura's presentations are phenomenal. Keep up the excellent work! 👏
Laura, well done as usual. Enjoy all the preparation that went into creating these videos.
I honestly had never learned about anything of how these ration books worked, I never had a chance to ask my grandparents so this was just amazing to dive into that mindset of universal sacrifice, Laura is awesome!!! I would totally be dialed in to a history class taught by her!
I could not imagine calling the department of motor vehicles telling them a dog ate my license plate.😅 great stories!
People were much more involved in the war and were more patriotic than they are now. The boys were welcomed home with more love than they are now.
WWII was the last war Americans actually thought was necessary because the threat to America was real and palpable. Our 'wars' since then have been for reasons and issues much more esoteric and some of them have just flat out been immoral. People tend to be far less supportive or understanding of wars they do not believe in .
Extremely interesting and my youngest daughter (10) watched and was so glued to watch you said
Six nbr lic plate are my favorite
Maybe another story for yourself to tell Laura is of the SoCal enthusiast Veda Orr who was the first woman of the SCTA and her publishing efforts during WWII itself via her newsletter. Undoubtedly you must have some of her archive within your research library there that could be shared upcoming. History is always a good thing!
That sounds awesome. I second this request!
nice
Very interesting video, beautiful lady 💙
Why do I feel like I’ve just finished eating, after my grandmother made my favorite home cooked meal? Can someone send her to talk to Putin?
so many pre-war license plates were recycled for the war effort that finding one these days is getting harder
