This clip emphasizes that USA Basketball execs played a big role, probably the major role, in leaving Isiah off. They were picking people right after the Pistons were unsportsmanlike to the team that ended up winning the Finals that year, and the Pistons already had a bad reputation as dirty players.........not the kind of people to represent the US in the Olympics.

How you going to stick Bird and Magic on there and no Isaiah Thomas? Isaiah belonged on that Dream Team and I remember how much that bothered me at the time. Basketball is my favorite sport, without the Politics. .
I agree but I also dont blame Chuck, it is a once in a lifetime opportunity, 11 hall of famers in the team cant get any better than that, Olympic Gold Medal is in the bag, he didnt need to put in any effort, he didnt even called a single time out and he got to play golf also.
Folks looking for somebody to blame for Isiah not being on the team. Look no further than Isiah himself. He reveled in the Bad Boy image, but that cost him dearly. In that era, there was hard fouls and then there was the Pistons brand of fouls where they were unnecessarily trying to hurt people.
No, it never stopped any All Star game selections so not buying it. When Jordan stated it came from up much higher its puts somethings in perspective. Thomas should have been on that team especially when his coach was the coach yet no one finds it odd that he was even sold out by Daley? Then look at the college choice. It right in your face what part of the agenda was but you don't want to see it because these fairytale stories presented by lying media. It's all fake and propaganda to push narratives, mind control.
You talk about image, the man earns the right to be in the team. He did nothing different from what Bird, Magic and Jordan done. Isiah is the original not going along to get along player.
They were mad at Isiah because he beat all three Jordan, Bird and Magic. The Chicago fans, the Boston fans and the LA fans hated Isiah because he beat them. Isiah Thomas doesn't get the credit he deserves he was the most dangerous and under looked player in the game. He was the smiling assassin. He beat the best at there best in the best era, and he did it multiple times. That's why the Pistons were named the bad boys because they beat the NBA's best and broke alot of fans hearts. The leader of that team was Isiah Thomas.
@Antonio Jackson these fanboys will say anything. Whether it's true or not they will spout off emotional rants filled with their opinions. (But state it as a truth) Piston fanboys & Isaiah fanboys😂
history is a wonderful thing.... 1) there were several other players who didn't want Isaiah on the team not just Jordan. 2) he was known as a bit of a trouble maker, which coach didn't want that to effect the team. 3) larry bird is probably the greatest shooter of all time.. all the players of today can only dream of shooting like him.. even with a hurt back he had some amazing plays in the dream team.. bird played in a era with men unlike today...
I think them leaving Isaiah off of the team takes away from the accomplishment of the so-called dream team, because every time they are mention the fact is brought up that Isaiah was unjustly left off. The Pistons kicked their asses and they reacted like females. Nothing for Zeke to be ashamed of. Everybody knows the real deal.
There is a difference between a hard good foul vs a foul that can actually cause injury. As the capt of the Bad Boys, he rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. The entire Pistons team was disliked around the league for their bad play. You can play good physical defense and foul hard without trying to hurt people. A clothesline is not playing for the ball, it is intent to do damage. Cant you tell the difference between playing physically for the ball & playing with intention to harm someone?!
It's not the Hall of Fame - its a team assembled for a tournament that they were bound to win. And...they weren't getting paid to go. So, the only cognitive dissonance is coming from your own thoughts.
@@christopherdell9601 Several players stated that he deserved to be there because he was the best player for the position. The fact is, they were on the team themselves because they were good enough. He was good enough as well. They kept him off the team for petty, personal reasons. They're hypocrites.
Yes and no. Yes, the crowd was teetering on the edge of the court ready to rush on, and no, the officials didn't order them to do it. It was a smart move on the Celtics part, though.
Context context context. Isaiah was being very public with his comments that Larry Bird is only considered a great player because he was white. When the Bad Boys walked off the court without a handshake, it was all class and every bit of it low. Underneath that boyish smile lies a very cruel person. it is well known that the bad boys image and antics was all Isaiah. It was his "soul" on display.
Magic had every right to be pissed at isaiah and mj handled it really well i think. He did bad mouth his best friend because of his illness and acted on some very ignorant thoughts. Glad they patched things out on the end but it did rob the world of one of the best point guards to ever play playing on the most stacked team in bball history.
I will like it because Thomas was a product of his environment where he grew up. He grew up in one of the roughest areas in the country and I would love to sit down and interview him. However, the Celtics walked off in Detroit without walking in front of the Pistons Bench and there is a memorable scene of McHale congratulating Thomas. Detroit walked off in front of the Bulls Bench with 7.9 seconds left without even looking at them after physically beating the living shit out of them for three years. It was a calculating move. Jordan's comments before the game were unnecessary but MAN up and do the right think regardless. Again, I am a fan of Thomas and Joe Dumars is the man.
Stockton is beneath Zeke except in terms of long-term durability for one big reason. He had the ability to take over games, but not the desire. Where's Stockton's killer instinct? In the same hiding place as his championship rings and finals mvp.
Thomas was a "true pg." He once held the single season assist record for 5 years. He wasn't pass first or shoot first; he was win first. Stockton's lack of this mentality is apparent in his playoff success and playoff stats. He was soft when it was money time, but great in the regular season, while Thomas was an absolute legend under the pressure of the postseason and NBA Finals. You like stats. Compare the numbers in their finals appearances.
Isiah Thomas was a fierce defender. Not as hard nosed or relentless as Stockton through screens, Zeke still shut down alot of plays. Pesky man to man. 2 steals per. Good rebounder, too. Those Piston teams were, with the exception of Dantley and Zeke, all role players. Would Stockton trade six years of his career for 2 rings and a finals mvp? He might. Surely, Utah fans would.
Stop it. Dumars had 3 seasons averaging over 20 points. 2 of those were after 90. He is 16 and 4 career. He is hof because of defense, he's a media darling and he caught fire in 89 finals and got mvp. I'm a piston fan and I think his inclusion is suspect. Rodman should have been 1st ballot over Joe D. Nobody's ever going to lead the league in rebounding for 7 straight seasons again. But his breakout year was 90 when he won dpoy. Look up Aguirre piston stats. He was there when needed and went to the bench his 2nd season with squad. Laimbeer was a great outside shooter and rebounder. And he could deliver the hard foul. He benefited from Thomas drive and kicks. I would put him in hof above Dumars, too. But they hate his ass. All those guys were role players.
@@jayyarbrough9902 bruh you just called maybe the toughest player defiantly the toughest pg fucking soft you didn't watch John play and know nothing of nba more to ever put soft and John Stockton in the same sentence. shame on you
Thomas deserves to be on any all time great team. If you don't like players like Rodman, Thomas and Artest, you just admitted you prefer a league full of guys like Divac, Derek Fisher and Dwyane Wade.
When you look at the timeline of the selection of the original dream team other than magic and bird Isiah had right to be there… he had final appearances and two championships
Clearly Jordan cleared himself from the rumor; Drexler is the only Dream Teamer to tell the truth; Isiah Head Coach Coached the Dream Team. Isiah got Chuck two NBA Championship rings. Isiah deserved and should have been on the Dream Team. Magic comments is of the worst kind; He and Isiah kissing at half court and he makes a statement like that. Isiah needs to stop calling Magic his friend and I cannot trust anything he says. Even after 30 years; Isaiah was disrespected by his friend Magic and his Piston Head coach,
Isaiah was hated by many on the team. Magic and Chuck Daly both signed off on it too, so it was obviously more than just Jordan if even his coach voted against him.
This was all bullshit. Isiah was the primary cause of NBA salaries being increased because he was a the Union President. League officials resented Zeke for making the league pay players more. That's why they turned on Isiah.
Karma? Isiah did it to himself ..what u guys watching? It didn't matter if magivk or MJ or any of the boys wanted him in the team..the higher ups didn't want him there period. You had to be a true sportsman. Walking out wjen losing is a bitch move, so yah if that's what u mean by Karma, isiah got it bad !
If Zeke would had made that team it would have been a conflict. Somebody would have probably punched or choked him behind the scenes. There was definitely to much bad blood amongst him to be there without his posse, his crew, his enforcers his bad boys. With all the accolades and accomplishments he achieved it still would have been an awkward moment considering maybe half of the team disliked him at that time. Dammit I miss thoses days.
I read someone said in a comment Isaiah was pushing for players to get more money... Is this perhaps the NBA themselves that kept Thomas off the dream team 🤔🤔🤔🤔
It speaks to an even deeper issue about Jordan and Magic when they can't come out and say, "No, I didn't want Isiah on the Olympic Team because...." I mean is that too hard for a grown man to do? Evidently it is because both Jordan and Magic are more concerned about their fan base and how they appear to the public and corporations than actually being honest and telling the truth of how they feel about a situation. I would never want Jordan or Magic around my children.

Dumars was physical...but in a clean way. It is when he funneled Jordan and Pippen into the lane where Laimbeer, Rodman, Edwards, Agguire, etc could necktie them. I do respect Dumars. I am shocked there were not serious injuries in the paint in those days. But I think most of us can agree Basketball was ten times better in that era.
Magic wanted nothing to do with Isiah because of his disrespect to others in the NBA ... being great is one thing but showing disrespect to everyone in general is another thing completely... MJ had nothing to do with decision to not pick Isiah for dream team...
its funny he had winning records against bird magic and jordan the exact same guys that didnt want him on the team..thats harsh he shouldve been on the team based on his own merit, as good as stockton was isiah played 11 seasons, an allstar in everyone and he had 2 rings.its not about whether him being on the team wouldve made a difference its about if he deserved to be on team. no would should argue that i mean common stockon over isaiah
Stockton belong their two it was more of chris mullen being wrong to be their at the time had me. and theirs also no Dominique Wilkens which is also bad.
stockon was great, all time leader in steals and assists by a wide margin. but stockon over isaiah????please this is a no brainer isaiah any day of the week..
kobedaman Dominique was injured at the time. He had ruptured his Achilles, so he couldn't play anyhow. Also let's not forget the other mistake on the Dream Team, Christian Laettner.
Christian Laettner was given Isaiah's spot. Jordan, Pippen, Stockton, Malone, Ewing, Bird and Laettner just to name a few didn't want Isaiah, so stop blaming Jordan.
Agreed. People forget the deplorable and homophobic comments and rumors Isaiah made about Magic after his announcement he was HIV positive (that managed to piss off most of the Dream Team members.) Thomas also claimed that Bird was overrated because he was white. Then there was the infamous freeze out of Jordan. Refusing to shake hands. Everybody had a reason to hate Isaiah but when you piss off the three poster men of the Dream Team, chances are you aren't going to make it. Pippen hated him as well. Malone couldn't stand him.
In the Dream Team book by Jack McCallum, it was a little more cut and dried. Jordan was the most essential guy to have on an overseas professional team, since Bird and Magic were essentially retired. Jordan was asked first if he would be willing to give up his summer to play on the Olympic Team, and he said he wasn't interested in playing on the team if Isiah was there. After that, they took Isiah's name off the proposed list, and Jordan agreed to participate. As McCallum stated, bottom line, if Jordan was willing to play with Isiah, Isiah would have been on the team, because he was on the original list. At that point, it didn't have anything to do with who any of the other players were interested in playing with.
What would happen if at the end of the Stanley Cup championship the losing team walks out without participating in the ceremonial hand shake a center ice????? What would happen??? That is what the Pistons did!!!! Instead of congratulating MJ and the Bulls they basically told the MJ and Bulls to go "Jump in the Lake"!!! Some sportsmanship!!!!
So much hypocrisy and false narratives. If the Pistons walking of the court after losing to the Bulls in the ECF was so distasteful that it disqualified Isiah Thomas from taking his rightful place on the so-called "Dream Team," why was head coach of that Pistons team [Chuck Daley] named head coach of the team? As head coach, doesn't Daley bear responsibility for the team's style of play and decision to walk off the court? Why didn't Jordan and Pippen object to Chuck Daley as head coach?🤔
Don't know who came with the brilliant idea of letting Isiah Thomas out of the Team, but the result of what he did was to include Isiah on the Dream Team forever. And that is the simplest scale to measure if he should have been there to pick up a medal or not, because he is DEFINITELY a part of the Dream Team forever after.
As a child, I was a big Detroit Pistons Fan! I always loved the Underdog Story, I believe that is the reason on why I grew to be a Pistons Fan, back than. Isiah Thomas deserved to be on the 1992 Team, merely on principal. He led the Detroit Pistons to two back to back NBA Championships, during a very dominant taught era of NBA Basketball. One Pistons player deserved to be on the 1992 Olympics team, merely on principal. However there is another key point that I am trying to make: Why was Scottie Pippen picked to be on the 1992 Olympics Team? He clearly did not earn his spot, back then! I believe it was Michael Jordan's doing. One more time: Why was Scottie Pippen included in the 1992 Olympic Dream Team? It's funny, how nobody seems to be asking themselves that question? Scottie Pippen should have never been on that team! And it goes to show you that in life, it sometimes has nothing to do on how good you are; sometimes it's the luck of the draw.
So luck of the draw is why Scottie Pippen was selected to the NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team, 8× NBA All-Defensive First Team (including year of Dream Team), 6× NBA champion (including year of Dream Team), two-time inductee into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (for his individual career, and as a member of the Dream Team) and Karl Malone, Jason Kidd and Michael Jordan have all selected him on their all-time starting lineups? That's not a question. It's actually rhetorical. Isiah didn't make the team due to his piss poor attitude that didn't reflect well on the committee choosing players. And no matter what, Scottie Pippen will forever be a global legend. If you notice, I never hated on you or Isiah. I simply spit facts. We still love Isiah in my hometown of Chicago, but he'll never be loved or appreciated as much as Scottie.
@@JeremyThompson1978 I'm sorry, but I don't fully agree with all your points. I still believe that Scottie owes large part of his success, due to being traded to Chicago on draft day. If he had played on the lower budget team, he probably would have never reached the same success. There were probably other small forwards that could have taken Scotties role on the 1992 Dream Team. One example is James Worthy, who was toward the end of his career, but still in great form, with probably a much bigger legacy behind him. Another could have been, Kevin McHale, who was past his prime, but still left a legacy. However, I still believe that Isiah Thomas should have had the last spot, instead of Scottie Pippen. Magic Johnson (man of all positions) could have filled the void within small forward; plus 1996 team had three point guards and three centers.
In "MY" OPINION..Isiah Thomas and Dominique Wilkins should have been on the "first" dream team..not John Stockton and scottie pippen..at that time Isiah thomas had led his Pistons to Back 2 Back championships and Dominique Wilkins kept the Atlanta hawks contenders year after year..while Stockton and Pippen were great players..but weren't the face of there franchises or the best players on there team's at that time (Jordan and Malone were)..I just think Isiah and Dominique were more established at the time than pippen and Stockton
Everyone keeps forgetting this was a team competition, were everyone had to live, travel, and play together. Its not like swimming were there is only one team member competing at any given time. For half of the team, to have problems with any one player would have effected the game. Plus Isiah was known for being an asshole on the court, to opposing players. If he had been allowed to represent the US in the olympics who says he wouldn't have been an asshole to the other teams cause controversies.
U can rest a lot about coach knight but don't EVER cause his teams of playing dirty. There has never been a coach that has made his teams play and act the right way like coach knights did, ever.U may want t try and watch games instead of listening to the media because there is no way u ever saw his teams play for u t make a statement like that. After the Last Dance, Charles Barkley was interviewed about Isaiah Thomas not being on the Dream Team and he said Isaiah should've shaken hands with Michael, but he also should've been on the team. Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, all representatives of the championship teams of those years, and Pistons the only championship team not to have a representative on the Dream Team. Celtics, Lakers, and Bulls, all champions in 1986, 1987, 1988, and 1991 with representatives on it but the 1989 and 1990 championship team, without a representative on it.
exactly well put, I like a tough physical game that's kind of when you know you have unity on a team when you'll get guys who will stick up for their teammates and go shove someone else, it's just like smack talk just physical
I think Isiah was to certain players, that there is a mental component to a champion. That champion was not going to forfeit at the sight of their presence. He was not going to salute your heiress.Every basket you scored was bittersweet. You acheived the goal, but there was pain attached to every basket. Isiah required greater focus, to be beaten than Mark Jackson.
finally some common sense. Pippen did not deserve to be on this team at that point in his career over Isiah. This is an Olympic team so they could've chosen Isiah over his azz and had three guards - as we saw how they dominated everyone, it wouldn't have made a difference. Put who deserves to be on the team.
Okay, Isiah was on the wall of a hall of fame career. Isiah encouraged his teammates to knock people on the behind but you hear Pippen cry as they show Isiah fighting Cartwright and Pippen despising how Isiah played. Okay, that's an opinion and Chuck just said Isiah was deserving but wasn't selected (Really? Wow! Great obvious observation Chuck!). Notice how Jordan couldn't just answer a straight question by Marv Albert. This is sickening.
All Jordan had to say is, "I don't like Isiah because he beat me and didn't shake my hand and I wasn't going to play with him on the 1992 Olympic Team." Now what on earth is so hard about that? Why not be honest instead of being shady or skipping the reality of how you felt? Also, Magic said he kept Isiah off the team. Okay, why didn't Magic say that then? Why did Jordan allow people to think it was him if it was Magic? See how these guys are, and these are your heroes. Untrustworthy character.

Isiah walking off the court after the loss hit deeply bc when Jordan lost to them he stuck around and congratulated them and wished them well despite them head hunting him and hard fouls.
What a traitor Chuck Daly was? From a team loyalty standpoint, he should've declined the Dream Team coaching position since it was his player, whom he admitted deserved a spot on the roster, that was forced out.
I have mixed feelings about this. Isiah certainly should have been ahead of Stockton based on merit. On the other hand, if you play on the edge and piss off your peers this kind of thing can happen and it happens in all walks of life and in other sports. Mo Vaughn wins the MVP over Albert Belle in '95. What?? Belle hit over 100 extra base hits. That's crazy, but he was a jerk and sometimes jerks get screwed. Not saying Isiah's a jerk but he obviously rubbed many of his peers the wrong way.
The Dream Team was picked to be the best *team* ever created. And it was. Individually Isiah was a great player, but he wouldn't have made that team better. 2004's team had a lot of good players on it, They all also own bronze medals.
A better dream team with Moses Malone with 200 years old? Tom Chambers with 1999 years old? Dominique injured not even walking? Worthy on his final year at NBA? Grandpa Parish? What a nonsense list
Joe Dumars deserves the Dream Team spot better than Isiah, He is a combo Guard, a better defender, a better outside shooter and has better demeanor. While Zeke is full of himself, Joe Dumars is a better team player.
DId you see any Bad Boys games? Thomas was great playmaker !!! with him team plays better. Dumars was better shooter but not better scorer than IT . And yes in 92 Dumars plays his prime, but obvieusly overall zeke was better player
As a 90’s Bulls fan from Illinois I honestly love that Jordan and Pippen blacklisted Isaiah from the Dream Team - not even Chuck Daly I.T’s own coach could get him on the team !
It wasn't just about the All-Star game! It was also the fact that Zeek took all his Pistons off the court w/o shaking the Bulls hands when the Bulls swept the Pistons. I understand Skips point & I understand Jordan's resentment, but this was not another all-star game, etc....this was the Dream Team! Jordan should have kept his personal feelings to himself, but I hate to break it to everyone, if Jordan says he won't play on the Dream Team if Zeek is on the team, then guess what....Zeek isn't going to be on the team. With that said Jordan was wrong here & resentful, but Zeek wasn't innocent. Zeek dug his own grave.
1. Laimbeer admitted that he led the Pistons off the court, and Isiah followed along, which he said he regrets doing. 2. Laimbeer also said the clock was winding down, and if the refs let the clock run, it would have run out by the time they got to the Bulls bench. However, the refs stopped the game, which made the Pistons' gesture look far worse than it was intended to. Historically, I'm not happy they did it, but in the moment, I understand why they were upset. Jordan ripped them in a press conference after game three, and they weren't interested in shaking his hand afterward.
Jordan may not have particularly liked him but Magic made it clear in his book it came from him and Jordan was just like "aiight sound good to me"

Magic and David Stern are the reasons he wasnt on the team. Not Jordan,
Yes and no. Jordan did have enough power to overturn them if he wanted to. After all, the Dream Team was kinda built around him.
How are all these Jordan Haters gonna blame MJ, why because he didn't want to play with zeke

But EVERY team now plays just like the Bad Boys, so thank you Detroit Bad Boys
They were mad at Isiah because he beat all three Jordan, Bird and Magic. The Chicago fans, the Boston fans and the LA fans hated Isiah because he beat them. Isiah Thomas doesn't get the credit he deserves he was the most dangerous and under looked player in the game. He was the smiling assassin. He beat the best at there best in the best era, and he did it multiple times. That's why the Pistons were named the bad boys because they beat the NBA's best and broke alot of fans hearts. The leader of that team was Isiah Thomas.

Zeke should have been on the team regardless if it's personal or not. It's about playing for the country.
Thomas ganged up in MJ's first all star game and gathered all his buddies to NOT let MJ score...MJ was just saving that...you get what you wish for.
@Joel Villarreal sooo Not true at all.
Did mj even realize that? Or did he find out after? I can't remember which it was
Giannis may be the only top shelf all star with this mentality in today’s league.
The dream team didn't need such a player like Isaiah Thomas.
The bad boys still the only team to have a winning record against the bulls , Celtics and lakers.
Yeah, he does/did. I'm a Pistons fan so I really am not down with Bird but I like he had his own style.
Who was clotheslined and who did the clotheslining?

Larry Bird walked off the court before the game was over when the Pistons finally beat them in the playoffs.
Justin Brown I heard the refs ordered Celtic off that time to avoid injury in case the crowd invaded

Can anyone honestly say that Isaiah Thomas didn't deserve to be on this team?

When you look at the timeline of the selection of the original dream team other than magic and bird Isiah had right to be there… he had final appearances and two championships
I don't know . But for me Jordan was the most beautiful art in dream team but I have to admit Thomas was incredible

Ian Douglass
I'm sure that's Jack's opinion. However it is just that, an opinion.
Isiah was more deserving than Bird. Bird was old and did shit in the Olympics.
Daly didn't tell them to walk off
Don't know who came with the brilliant idea of letting Isiah Thomas out of the Team, but the result of what he did was to include Isiah on the Dream Team forever.
@@kindp6490 You make great points that are all valid and plausible, but we can agree to disagree about Scottie.

I have mixed feelings about this. Isiah certainly should have been ahead of Stockton based on merit.
Jordan ripped them in a press conference after game three, and they weren't interested in shaking his hand afterward.
everybody is drinking the stern kool aid. Is funny how people don't believe these games are decided beforehand.
