- This is Radar and Bagget starting a Ruston RK270, the first part is venting the units, only did this for a giggle, it is part of our every day work on a Ferry, spot the the start block Doh !!!.
Rk270 and rk215 remember them well, they were a beast on the test beds , I was a trainee there in late 80’s
I just rode on the Balearia Jaume II and was amazed and curious about the engines and propulsion system. 👍
I'm training Engineer onboard Incat Hull 051 - "Poniente Jet". If you have any questions, ask!
Paul Fabrique, I ran 5ATXM in an old North Sea side trawler in the 70s, when it came up for survey we went through the usual procedures, when the Lloyds surveyor checked the Ruston, he said" box her up, shes as good as the day she was built". She was over 10 years old then. The engine never gave a moment problem.
I saw the vessel 6 years ago, converted to a stern dragger, still going strong.

from time to time i have been sailing onboard incat 048, which have Ruston engines as well👍🏻
Formerly English, now German. MAN Diesel.
Ha ha ha Egglers me old mucker. Remember spending many an hour changing cylinder heads and air charge coolers. Happy dayz!
MrColesy1000 sorry mate only just seen this, nightmare days never ending, always something needed sorting🙄 happy days indeed 😂
Good morning bhai
I thought that face looked familiar! Hello Mark!
Hi Dru I hope you are happy days and life is good
That Engine room looks remarkably like that in a 74m Incat Catermaran.
TinCanToucan it was on a Incat 86m Hull 42
@@markeggleton Thanks Mark. I worked for Hoverspeed on Incats and Superseacats. You could have "bumpstarted" the engine and videod the oily black smokescreen!!
@@TinCanToucan Bumpstarting was for direct drive engines, 74m and 78m craft. The 86m craft had gearboxes so it was possible.
@@markeggleton I worked at the 041 as an engine fitter, but now she has Caterpillar engines
Thank God 🙏
Soo Smooth 😻 I love v engines
Pah! Deano can do it with his tongue. And what is that Pirate from the Caribbean LIKE?
Sir good star engine good work
Sir please job iam India
We are from Incat 060 night crew we are going to post a faster start up on a RK270 MK2
I probably had a hand in building this engine at Rustons
LLOYDY33 so it was you who we have to blame then 😂😂😂
Spent 20 years with these engines, when they were good they were excellent, but had a few crankcase explosions some too close for comfort, it’s a shame they didn’t progress with the upgrades like the rotary exhaust valves which we tested for a while
Mark Eggleton yes the crankcase and bed plate had cracking problems in the beginning
LLOYDY33 we had a few of new entablatures through cracking and 1 when it threw a unit through the side of it 🙈👍
A good friend in my village just north of Lincoln went around the world servicing Ruston diesel engines, I myself worked on the control systems for Ruston Gas Turbines prior to moving on to other things.
@@markeggleton That's awesome, I've also had a hand in machining new spare parts like the bedplate and crankcase. We do it currently to this day, awesome to see it starting. Ouch what damage does a exploding crankcase do to the engine room you've peaked my interest. Our latest bedplate went out to a catastrophic failure somewhere. Hope it wasn't to you guys haha
Lloyd,you only did ten sets,haha
Superseacats 3 and 4.
I was a mechanical design engineer at Rustons. In my qualified opinion, those engines were pieces of shit and it came as no surprise the company went under. They were okay on a locomotion duty cycle when derated, but in fast ferries etc they were shite.
Cat 3618 wasnt better
What do you think about the V28/33D's?
They were hard work, they took a lot of maintenance to keep them running, I think now though I agree with you 😂
Estava esperando um estrondo maior
Condor???
loving this video! :'D
Which is the ferry?
Adrian Lara hi it was Condor Vitesse incat hull 44
