The horse's body language speaks of overwhelm-ment. It walks so much the way humans walk amid the wreckage of what had been a place of familiarity and sanctuary, not sure where to start with continuing on from this new point. Even worse for the horse, it knows not what it was that caused this terror and ruin and loss. It knows not its origin or its destination or even its name. It knows not if the unknown destroyer might return tonight or tomorrow night ... or every night from now on.

Our son took a direct hit from the tornado last night
He and his family lived in the RV park as they were waiting for their house to be finished, and move in ready, on June 1
We were there last night and in the dark the devastation was horrendous
My husband, and I, had to run 2 miles just to get to the kids as there were power lines and trees down and making the roads unpassable.
When I say love your family with all your being, I really mean it.
We got word an older woman was found in the field and her husband succumbed shortly thereafter due to his injuries.
The heartbreak is unimaginable for these families
Who would have thought a 3 day weekend would end with such devastation?

It’s pretty crazy when Maryland heights Missouri was hit years and years ago there was a lot of houses leveled but one that I came up to the entire front looked prefect and when I looked behind it on the second floor the only thing you could see was a rolling computer chair it was chilling. I had heard there was a woman pinned under an RV on the scanner I believe it was Denton Texas and by then they had announced the mass casualty emergency of 150 or more to that truck stop. In the middle of the night my heart breaks for anyone and everyone involved in this.

Wow, I saw a headline somewhere that said this tornado went over mostly rural areas.
And ... all I can say is ... Ok maybe TECHNICALLY speaking yes this was a rural area, but the population density of this so called rural area is not at ALL what most people think of when they hear "rural".
Well, I guess I should only speak for myself and it's certainly not what I think of.
Such a (likely unintentional) misleading headline.
Anyway, all I could think of while watching this was about just how many people were affected. That was quite a long stretch of destruction.
I watched that supercell on radar from when it first became tornado warned (radar indicated) to right when it was over Valley View. The radar and other indicators were visually extreme for 30+ minutes before it officially became a "radar confirmed" tornado shortly before hitting this area. It was very late (for me) and I fell asleep shortly thereafter without knowing just how destructive this one would be.
Seeing all this and all the other tornados this spring, I'm super surprised that even though I live right smack-dab in the middle of it all, my immediate vicinity has been spared. As it has been for my entire life apparently. One day the clock will strike midnight just like it did for the people who live in this area. So many different places this year alone. So sad.

Why not just build tornado proof homes??? Wouldn't it be more cost effective in the long run to spend the extra money on materials for a tornado proof home design than to have to rebuild from tornado damage??? The only other explanation I can come up with as far as why homes are designed the way they are is the construction companies want the homes destroyed so they can stay in business hence why homes are constructed in such a way to be so vulnerable to tornadoes or extreme wind gusts. As an engineer I can easily come up with at least 3 tornado proof designs which can withstand at least EF3 or even EF4 with additional construction costs. I guess most builders will continue to build in the cheapest way possible in order to maximize sale profits. Homes don't have to be ripped apart from an EF4 with the proper ingenuity but I understand the costs difference between a tornado proof home vs a modern cost effective home the expense difference would vary a great deal. It's just it's too bad money/build cost has to be a factor in safety otherwise not even an EF4 could do much damage if any to specific structural designs. So many lives lost and properties continue to be damaged because of this world running on the dollar bill. Take away the limitations of the dollar bill and we would see an enormous amount of structural technological advancements.
