I think you are really, really underestimating bandits talent. Think about how you design a rack deck. You need discard effects, you need payoffs, you need a way to clock. This is all of those things. And it’s not the best at each of them, but the sheer versatility is incredible, and it is going to play really well in the “well now we topdeck” game state that rack tries to blitz into.
Do we still have a Burglar Rat that doesn't give the card back? Because then you can also get a Pixie back and bounce the Burglar Rat. Edit: Yes, Nezumi Informant. It's even a Rat.
Can't wait for the top 25 of the set to see how many cards you think are Standard playable. So far I don't think there will be many at all. Tribal focused set in Standard to me = little impact. Limited should be a lot of fun though
Mocking bird seems to be getting seriously slept on -- youre one of the only creators Ive seen mentioning it, and Im with you that I think its absolutely bonkers -- maybe the best card in the set. Sure, it's not as good as other clones if the creature has CMC 4+, but it's easily the best clone ever printed in the 0-3 CMC range -- and it gives the copy flying?! 1 mana constructs with flying anyone? The one deck in particular I think it will be nuts in though, is a venerated rotpriest deck. Copies 5-8 of rotpriest, for 1 mana, with flying, that also targets rotpriest when it comes in.. oof. It will make that deck so, so much more consistent, and its so fast/hard to beat when it draws well that the extra consistency is very, very scary -- its one drawback was its inconsistency. But even in just regular aggro, mocking bird is nuts -- a 1 mana swiftspear with flying? Copies 5-8 of slickshot? Thats scary too. Not to mention, its legit back to just about any format -- copies 5-8 of guide of souls, with flying? Copy the opponent's monkey turn 1? So much the card does, the versatility is nuts. What about tribal decks? How about copies 5-8 of any lord, with flying? Elves? Murlocs? Vodalian Hexcatcher for example.. just oof. I dont see how this card isnt nuts.
Floodcaller itself does not trigger its own triggered ability. You'd have to pair it with another cheap spell, which is perhaps doable if it's late enough in the game that you have a reasonable boardstate to be caring about that effect. The flash-granting ability does help alleviate the narrower window to pull off this interaction by allowing any of your Sorceries to function as part of it, of course.
That bandits talent could get sent back to your hand with the nurturing pixie. Step 1 hopeless night mare, then bandits, then bounce bandits and replay it
I think overprotect will see play because it not only protects against damage, destroy board wipes, targeted removal, but also -1/-1 effects that are removal. Also a+3/+3 is far better that just +1/+1 in giving that extra fit of damage.
The discount Orzhov deck that he made for $5 loves this as an upgrade. Okiba cycles out, this cycles in. Have to find a replacement for Michiko's saga, tho.
I think Baylen also could find a nice home in Soul Cauldron. Some sweet activated abilities to give your creatures. Sure, doubling up on creatures that have these abilities doesn’t make it any better, but keeping these abilities alive sure will be nice
The trick there is having enough token generation in the deck without diluting your actual creature card count for the purpose of Cauldron targets Do any Offspring cards have activated abilities, or are they all triggered?
Have I missed the rabbit pugilist? Rabbits run around and punch things in real life, and I've been wondering when the rabbit pugilist is going to be revealed.
Vinelasher and the Big Bird are the top 2 I will be hunting for come pre-release, thus far oh and the trible nyxthos land for value. There isn't a world that it doesn't climb in price forever
Based on what we've seen so far, I'd like your thoughts on Cavern of Souls it's already expensive, and it stands to get wayyyy more playable. I just picked up 2 copies
I'm really happy about bandits talent, but discard may not be the best if control and midrange aren't played much. Aggro seems to be king atm. Still I'll be happy to put ... I think 3 of these in a discard deck.
I'm not 100% sure thinking back to the video Dev introduced this Bat in: did he mention that it triggers all the life-loss payoffs on the Bats in the set?
until this week, it only had one video tier-listing something from a different game on it (or at least, that's the only other video that's still currently visible on it, and the only one I recall having seen there before, when I found the channel some time in the past)
I run a tibalt brawl deck on mtga. Its completely miserable to play against I'm a bad person. It grinds out it's wins. Iridescent Vinelasher seems like a fine wincon for the deck. I'm in no hurry to win. I just grind you out slowly, "drawing" 3+ cards a turn while you top deck.
Baylen looks like a lot of fun to pop off with but also maybe the most boring type of card ever. X thing matters, it ramps and it draws cards. Yawn. Edit: Valley Floodcaller + The back half of Invasion of Segovia?
Birdman: 'This is Dove, from the place'

👍 Loving the Bloomburrow previews, Baylen is a game-changer! 🃏
"Lazy, calm Saturday afternoon"
Posted about 5 minutes before this Saturday afternoon becomes a day that will always be mentioned in American history.
lol looking for this comment
@@nollanfk9077 Somebody shot at Trump.
Just remembered that Poison Dart Frog is a Frog Mana Dork also in standard that Floodcaller can untap.
That won't be a problem, no not at all
It was Micro Machines. Wow.... Now that takes me back.
Dewdrop Cure - gift them a card, get a deep cavern bat, take their card.
Nice.

First set in a long time where I wish we still had 2-3 sets per block. Or at least the first time in years that I've wanted to return to a plane ASAP.
I felt that way with ONE, which was my favorite set last year.
Can't wait for the top 25 of the set to see how many cards you think are Standard playable. So far I don't think there will be many at all. Tribal focused set in Standard to me = little impact. Limited should be a lot of fun though
I genuinely smiled when you pointed out the frog “jumping” mechanic
I'm ready for another great preview vid from my boy Dev!
The thing to copy with Mocking Bird is Monastery Swiftspear, on turn two, followed by either a 1-mana removal spell or Monstrous Rage
Crazy timing

small but important correction: Mocking Bird does not target anything.
@@Arvensa Good call -- I think I just assumed it would without reading too closely
I believe the Valley Floodcaller can be a great combat trick. 3 mana pump all your creatures anthem, and then flash in anything you want..

25:48 So I’m playing four of these. If you hit this on turn two and three, that’s minimum two lands dropped by your opponent. This card is AMAZING
The discount Orzhov deck that he made for $5 loves this as an upgrade. Okiba cycles out, this cycles in. Have to find a replacement for Michiko's saga, tho.
I'm hype for a lot of the uncommon honestly. Hop to it and the WG mentor are getting me pumped.
Awesome rundown Birdman.
So excited aboyt mockingbird! I started playing magic with delver snapcaster phantasmal image being my first deck ....im allready cooking 😂😂
Baylen is everything I wanted Meria, Scholar of Antiquity to be. Meria requiring non-token artifacts made her unplayable.
restoration angel and thragtusk? I think you mean salvation swan and vaultborn tyrant
Shit son I gotta go back and finish watching yesterday's video. I missed the Blue Jay. Love the videos Dev as always
Who's that bird man? Oh, it's just Dev from the place *breathes a sigh of relief*

Definitely gonna be trying some golgari desert burn with bill and free strider and the new one drop
DEV. The fast-talking commercial series you're thinking of is probably "Micro Machines."
Robot Chicken did a sketch about them.
I remember them ripping it off of the monster truck rally commercials.
I want to try an aggro Ivy deck again and overprotect will be in there for sure if it can happen at all.
Have I missed the rabbit pugilist? Rabbits run around and punch things in real life, and I've been wondering when the rabbit pugilist is going to be revealed.
I think the quick-speaking fellow you mentioned read ads for Micro-Machines.

I was surprised Darkstar Augur wasn't on your list. I think we'll see some mono black & Orzhov decks doing silly stuff with that one.
I'm not 100% sure thinking back to the video Dev introduced this Bat in: did he mention that it triggers all the life-loss payoffs on the Bats in the set?
Mocking Bird is going to be insane ramp with man lands.
Pretty certain you are under estimating the floodcaller into ral zarek.
Overprotect is some serious powercreep. That's too good for 2 mana.
Floodcaller lets you play Sunfall/Starfall at instant speed 👀
28:00 OH MY GOD
Please post the random Scryfall videos here eventually cuz everyone deserves to see them
Bandits talent and vinelasher I think are being overlooked by some people
Salvation swan in a changelings deck.
Poison dart frog taps for a green
WTF IS THE OTHER CHANNEL!?! WHY HAVE I NEVER HEARD OF ANOTHER CHANNEL!?!
until this week, it only had one video tier-listing something from a different game on it
(or at least, that's the only other video that's still currently visible on it, and the only one I recall having seen there before, when I found the channel some time in the past)
Isnt the vinelasher in the Nissa land graveyard deck just completely busted?
I think you meant the Micro Machines guy LOL
Isnt bandits talent just uncommon davriel from war of the spark?
4:34 Holding up a counter only to play a Planeswalker at the end of the turn instead seems silly
dual lands?
Do you wanna play simic cookies or sulti snacks?
All I'm saying is that if the creature matters is king, the cavern of souls will be🤑🤑🤑
I hate that splendid reclaimation is rotating. Would be so good with our froggy boi
Micromachines guy lol
you you you you you you
you otter know
Micro machines dev!!!
I'm not a huge fan of the concept overall, but this set really makes me want to see a Redwall universes beyond.

Overprotect is a strictly better giant growth and we didn’t get to hear the thing
Valley floodcaller=Leyline of antici..........pation on a stick+temur ascendancy on a stick. Actual WTF!!!
(That was Jeskai Ascendancy you're thinking of)
BIIIIIIIIRRRRRRRRDDDD
MMMAAAAAANNNNNNN
I really want to make a frog deck 🐸 🤍
Dev it was hot wheels..or micro machines
Where's my sandwich Dev
Micro machines
Bandits talent is also the nuts. I am glad we got some power. Rotation looked like minor damage to the format before what we've seen
I just need frog 🐸 tribal 🤍
Baylen is an Immediate chase card for me, hopefully I can get the anime art
Hear me out, Dev.
Mocking Bird......copying Vinelasher.
wewt
Baylen looks like a lot of fun to pop off with but also maybe the most boring type of card ever. X thing matters, it ramps and it draws cards. Yawn.
Edit: Valley Floodcaller + The back half of Invasion of Segovia?
But more so in Commander, I guess.
