Thanks. I'm still no wiser, though! :o Which Sennheisers do you have for reference editing? I bought the HD650 because I understood that they were accurate, flat, reference headphones. But I haven't been able to hear the noise in my recordings, even when I isolate the noise floor visually (using RX) and try to listen to it at max volume. I have super-cheap (Carlsbro?) headphones that I bought for $30 and these seem to pick up all the noises and artefacts clearly. I previously bought Sennheisers DT990 (slated as studio reference headphones) and they were even worse - I couldn't hear any noise at all because they were being automatically filtered out ("to improve the listening experience") and even changed the signal so that I couldn't equalize the audio I was editing accurately. (I'm wondering now whether one has to edit TO a particular class of speakers or headphones, which may mean having to produce several versions of finished audio and specify which playback devices they are suitable for respectively!) So how "accurate" are the Focal headphones then? For me, that's the deciding factor. Everything else is secondary (although obviously the build quality and how long they last is important). I can even live with uncomfortable headphones if I know that I'm listening to the precise audio signal, warts and all!

I'm looking for a good headphone to use with my Line 6 Helix amp modeler to practice guitar in silence as far as the neighbors are concerned. How do you think these would work in that application?
Thanks for checking out the video! I think these would work quite well for that. They have a much for full sound than the Sennheiser HD280(which I would imagine could be fatiguing for practicing guitar). The Focals are very balanced and I've worked on them for long periods of time without ear fatigue. I hope that's helpful!
I haven't tried the Focal Spirit. For mixing, between the Listen Professional and Beats Studio 3, I'd go with the Listen Professional. The Beats Studio 3 can be nice for casual listening but aren't nearly accurate enough for mixing in my opinion.
I haven't tried using any cables other than what came with the headphones but I think 4.4mm or 2.5mm cables would work because the supplied connectors/adapters are TRS.
Great video! My Focal HP's have way too much bass and are very tight fitting. I can't mix with them at all. I do have Focal monitors that I really like a lot. So I just use my sony 7506 HP for tracking and mixing. Thanks

Music that is mixed well sounds good on the Focals. Music that isn't mixed well won't sound good on them which is a good thing because it forces you in the right direction. I hope you enjoy them!
As long as the dj controller has a headphone jack(3.5mm or 1/4 inch jack) then yes, they will work! They should give you good isolation and a very accurate sound.

Hello. I haven’t compared them to the hd660. I do have a few pairs of HD280s and in comparison the focals have a much more natural top end and extended lows. I hope that is helpful!

I got these they sound unreal with the bass floor, the Senns can't touch them. The clarity is amazing, imaging is unreal to be honest and I am coming from high end IEMs (Fiio brand).
I agree. I got mine last week they KILL. I have mine running through an Ibasso DX170 DAP. My other drivers are IEMs both Fiio FH5 + FD5. They all sound great but these really spoil my ears in a good way. I wanted to hear the Beyeordynamics DT700 Pro X to compare, i went to my local headphone store to try them and they sounded so bad by comparison to the Focals. Harsh cymblance, much flatter, poor imaging. The Focals blew them out the water no matter what music I threw at them.

Hello. I haven’t compared them to the hd660. I do have a few pairs of HD280s and in comparison the focals have a much more natural top end and extended lows. I hope that is helpful!

Also, Sennheiser 660s are open back headphones so I wouldn’t recommend them for recording.

For mixing I've had good success using these with Waves Abbey Road Studio 3.
5Hz to 21kHz - but at what dB? 5Hz at -21dB? Useless spec from modern headfone marketeers.
