The "Büxensteinlied" is a German communist song. It was born during the January fights of the Spartakusbund (Spartacus League) in 1919 in the Berlin newspaper district. The workers defended the Büxenstein printing factory against the troops of Gustav Noske, the SPD Minister of Defence. The verses were written by the locksmith Richard Schulz, later editor of the "Red Flag". According to a nationalistic soldier song from 1915 ("Argonnerwald, um Mitternacht").

Music history is always interesting. Especially interesting, when I learned, that the Nazi anthem was partially build on this melody. Always weird to see how music can be used by very opposing ideologies.

This is very much a funeral song.
In under 72h the german government managed to kill and murder at least 156 workers, an unknown number of uninvolved citizens, as well as 7 parliamentarians that were present to negotiate the surrender of the workers on strike.
The Freicorps of the German government suffered 13 casualties and 20 injured.
When I went to school I passed almost daily the spot by the river Spree where Rosa Luxemburg was murdered and her body disposed off.
Why is there a Freikorps guy on the thumbnail of a Communist song?
