I love the piece of trivia that Julia Stiles reading the poem and crying was done in one take. They didn't even want to cut away to Heath for a reaction shot, but the look on his face was so earnest, they did. She wasn't planning to cry; she just got caught in the moment. Best scene in the movie. Silver medal goes to Heath singing.
I always interpreted Patrick not kissing her after the party as her being drunk and vulnerable still and not wanting to take advantage of that...on top of the whole I like this girl and I am feeling guilty that I'm getting paid for this.
The funny thing is, if you pay attention, Nigel with the brie is in fact the first person being pushed inside by the pack of everyone else behind him. It always makes me laugh!
I rewatched this movie recently and I seriously love how iconic everything is. It develops the romance perfectly without any majorly problematic aspects. Colleen Hoover could NEVER!
This has been one of my go to comfort movies since...it started EXISTING, and I didn't think of the whole "why didn't he just tell her immediately and milk Joey for all of his money" thing until two minutes before you said it in this video. Then you proceeded to pitch that idea for the rest of the movie.
The soundtrack to this movie was so formative to me, from I Want You to Want Me to Atomic Dog, but I was always incredibly disappointed that Heath Ledger's rendition of Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You wasn't included on the CD.
I wrote a paper in college comparing this movie to a film adaptation of Taming of the Shrew from the 70s that I abhor. I watched this movie for the first time for that paper and I was instantly charmed. In the film I was comparing it to the sister dynamic felt flat. It's kind of flat in the original play as well but that's because it's a play within a play (something the 70s adaption discarded to their own detriment) and thus not as important to the plot. But in this movie both sisters get development, they get to matter as characters, they get to care about each other in a way that feels real. This movie gets it, and builds on the foundation Shakespeare built. This is the only adaptation of Taming of a Shrew I will ever care about.
I found the movie through Alyssa Oleynik because I had a huge crush on her as Alex Mack, and naturally became fans of everyone else 🤩 Even Save Ferris (the main band playing the prom) 🥰 At a dumb 15 I knew little of Shakespeare, but seeing how they adapted Taming of the Shrew for the better is really impressive today. The little nods to the source are some of my favorite moments now (rapping sonnet, Patrucio of Verona = Patrick Verona, "I burn, I pine, I perish!"), but just like you so many of the innocuous lines live in my head. Can't see brie without thinking of Nigel and I often wonder if I'm just whelmed though I'm not in Europe 🤔
Fun fact about this movie, I grew up not too far from the school they filmed this at. 😊 My mom, while pregnant with me, even walked past where they were filming. And this movie never fails to make me home sick.
Kat would 100% go along with tricking that asshole into bankrolling their dates. But then we wouldn't get the rest of the plot, alas. Also, if "nobody's doing it like them" but also "this is the bar now," does that mean that there just aren't any worthwhile romantic partners? That's bleak. 😛
I don't know why, but my feed hasn't been updating me about your videos, even though I've rung the bell. This is the first video in weeks that the algorithm has made me aware of. I've got some catching up to do! I've missed you so much! 💕
It's been such a while since I saw this one, I'm not even sure I remember enough to claim I have. just jumping in to express my appreciation of uploading it, and I'll return later to watch it once I've made sure I've seen the movie myself again!
I watched this movie yesterday with no idea you had made this video! I needed a comfort watch and this is the greatest teen movie ever. Allison Janney's guidance counselor is a VIBE.
"They go to school in a castle! Who, what, where, when, why and how?" That's Stadium High School in Tacoma, WA. My grandmother and at least one of my cousins went there. I passed by it many times visiting my grandmother, and it is just as gorgeous in person (although I bet actual students might describe it differently)
I was disappointed not to see the iconic line/delivery "Yoouu-huu-huu, are a murderer, OF LOVE!!" 😆 But seriously, your idea of them going in on it together to scam the d-bag out of $300, totally would have worked! Now I need to see a teen romance movie that turns the tropes on their head like that. (Besides _Not Another Teen Movie)_
Have you seen Tromeo and Juliet? Be careful what you ask for 😅 No, seriously, probably don't watch it... it's insane, like if Baz's version was on 💊 and rolled in 🗑 Or please go in with caution and an empty stomach.
17:09: Believe it or not two completely different teen movies from 1999 had characters sing this song. The other was Denise Richards character in 'Drop Dead Gorgeous' (a film that doesn't get nearly enough reactions.)
absolutely one of my top 3 favourite romcoms! would love to see you do more commentaries for more iconic 90s/early 2000s romcoms - particularly how to lose a guy in 10 days. one of the few "overrated" romcoms that i think actually lives up to it's hype - as for newer ones, i think you might enjoy palm springs (timeloop trope!!!)
I love this film!!! Few years ago I auditioned for the play, and I got the lead, Petruchio. It was the first time I got a starring role, and I didn’t even expect to get it. I thought that I didn’t fit the image of a leading man. I worked harder than I ever had and made sure that we gave a great performance for it. And I hope one day that can inspire someone else. 🔟📝👁️🗨️😡🫵❣️
I’ve never seen this film before. The only thing I know about it is that Heath Ledger’s in it. I enjoyed his performance as the Joker in The Dark Knight. It’s sad to think that was one of the the last films he did before he died. Rest in Peace Heath Ledger.
I know someone already pointed out in the comments that the castle they used is actually a real high school in Washington state, but I just wanted to add that most, if not all, filming locations are between Seattle and Tacoma (the latter being where I'm from). It's, like, the one thing I'm proud of in this state. 😂
I was 17/18 in 1999 and I loved this film so much (though teen me who was still in denial even from herself that she was trans and, well, a *she*, preferred 'She's All That' because I wanted to be Rachael Leigh Cook - though again at the time I told myself I just had a crush her.) One thing I think it does really well - better than any teen film I can think of - is filling out the ranks of the film with fun, memorable secondary characters that make the setting seem really alive. Even tertiary characters with only a couple of minutes screentime like Kat's bestie Mandella gets a good line or two ("More than a fan, we're involved".)
I have watched this movie so many times I was quoting every line. Only quibbles are her final poem should have actually been a sonnet. And the Shakespearean prom outfits are weird Victorian costumes.
Hii, loved your reaction as always. You should check out "my lady jane". It's a great series and I would love to hear what you have to say about that one.
All Marvel stuff are exclusively on her Patreon now because of all the toxic "fans" hating on people for just enjoying themselves 🙃. But Loki, Echo, What If, Daredevil and the old X-men movies are on the Patreon since last Marvel video here! ❤
I love the piece of trivia that Julia Stiles reading the poem and crying was done in one take. They didn't even want to cut away to Heath for a reaction shot, but the look on his face was so earnest, they did.

that's so sweet omg!!
We will never truly comprehend how many potentially fantastic film performances we lost when Heath Ledger died.
RIP
Take care of your mental health and be careful with drugs everyone ❤
I always interpreted Patrick not kissing her after the party as her being drunk and vulnerable still and not wanting to take advantage of that...on top of the whole I like this girl and I am feeling guilty that I'm getting paid for this.
Same, the OG consent king.
"That must be Nigel with the brie" is a quote I say whenever anyone knocks at my door 😂
The funny thing is, if you pay attention, Nigel with the brie is in fact the first person being pushed inside by the pack of everyone else behind him. It always makes me laugh!
Fun fact the “castle” they go to school in is a real PUBLIC high in washington that was originally built to be a hotel
I rewatched this movie recently and I seriously love how iconic everything is. It develops the romance perfectly without any majorly problematic aspects. Colleen Hoover could NEVER!
LOL, not the colleen hoover @ 😂 but fr!! it's really well-written!
I prefer the way they handle the end here more than Taming. I love when an adaptation can elevate a source material properly.
This movie is a masterpiece in every way. The fact that the poem was improvised is crazy.
THE POEM WAS IMPROVISED?! genuinely shook, omg 😭
@@fictionaldarling YES AND I WAS TOO WHEN I FOUND THAT OUT

I've missed your reactions. The last movie reaction of yours that I've seen was your means girls reaction. I really need to watch DEBS at some point.
Alt trivia: the table dancing scene helped her land Save the Last Dance.
Julia Stiles's got moves!
In a movie the public serenade is amazing... IRL? I'd RUN in the other direction SO FAST
I watched this movie and then got I Want You To Want Me stuck in my head for over a decade.
Honestly same
The soundtrack to this movie was so formative to me, from I Want You to Want Me to Atomic Dog, but I was always incredibly disappointed that Heath Ledger's rendition of Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You wasn't included on the CD.
It hurts me so much to think how he's no more with us. Such a beautiful talented man!
Romance is not a genre I like much but I LOVE this movie sm, watched it multiple times.
3:31 the Stratford sisters, as in Stratford-Upon-Avon lol the Easter eggs
And Patrick's last name is Verona and they go to Padua high.
@@petrastedman669 Yep, all references to the source material!
"You need therapy, you know that?" in any era other than this one is a DEVASTATING insult, geez lol

Because it doesn't involve emotional and physical abuse?
If you haven't seen it, you should watch Prince of Egypt. It is a beautiful movie, almost every sean looks like a painting.
i JUST watched this two hours ago, how did you know???
we're in sync !!
I found the movie through Alyssa Oleynik because I had a huge crush on her as Alex Mack, and naturally became fans of everyone else 🤩

I'm so glad that you're finally getting to enjoy this movie. It's one of my absolute favorites.
God I Love this movie!!!! Got to watch it in English class because teacher loves this movie and Shakespeare. lol.
honestly, iconic 😂

R.I.P. Heath Ledger (1979-2008)
He was a great actor!

Shakespeare is dead "In theory".
Okay, now I'm liking the idea of an undead or immortal Shakespeare.
I've been saying that "overwhelmed" joke for years, I totally forgot this is where I got it from!
Heath's singing scene just reminds me of the parody scene with Chris Evans singing in Not Another Teen Movie.
I watched this movie yesterday with no idea you had made this video! I needed a comfort watch and this is the greatest teen movie ever.

I remember seeing this my Freshman year in high school with a good friend of mine at the time, the weekend after it was released.
yes! this was also my favourite movie when i was a teenager and i could also quote it almost word for word
I was disappointed not to see the iconic line/delivery "Yoouu-huu-huu, are a murderer, OF LOVE!!" 😆

The "castle" school is Stadium High School in Tacoma, WA - it's a public school and the kids who live in that district are super lucky!
Fun fact, the first time I've seen this movie was a movie rental that we watch has a family... the day my sister broke up with her first boyfriend.
THIS MOVIE IS AMAZING I LOVE IT SO MUCH HOLLYWOOD I NEED MORE MODERN SHAKESPEARE
Have you seen Tromeo and Juliet? Be careful what you ask for 😅

It's one of my fav movies of all time. The cast was awesome
The high school is located in Tacoma, WA. And yes, it looks like a castle. And yes, it really is a high school.

one of my favourite romcoms, rewatched it too many times
Not me, calmly running off to go check out that Michael Sheen interview, which I'm guessing is for Masters of Sex? Thank you for sharing!
yes!! it was for masters of sex lol. truly such an amazing show 😭
This is the best version of "The Taming of The Shrew" EVER!!!!!!!!!!
1999 was a great yr for film.
Larisa Oleynik was more my type. Had a crush on her since Secret World of Alex Mack.
I love the necklace! So cute!
I have not watched any of The West Wing, and I still knew that (looks on IMDB) "Ms. Perky" (!?) was played by Allison Janney, known to many as "CJ".
I’ve never seen this film before. The only thing I know about it is that Heath Ledger’s in it. I enjoyed his performance as the Joker in The Dark Knight. It’s sad to think that was one of the the last films he did before he died. Rest in Peace Heath Ledger.

Hi Jess , It's great to see you again it's been a while :) I like your shirt.
Great reaction to this movie. Have a good weekend !!!
I still miss Heath Ledger on screen
I fucking loved this movie as a kid.
Happy Friday Jess 😊❤️
thanks, you too!! :)
Hi jess , Happy Friday Miss you!!! :))
Now watch O, which is high school Othello.
Our prom was at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco, and Creedence Clearwater played.
Such a good movie! As I now realize before playing that you might not have been alive when this came out.....
You watch Ghosts? I love that! ... Awesome show! .... You should do reactions for it here. I cant wait for season 4
Tale as old as time - every one hates the girl who stands up for herself and has self respect. RIP Heath Ledger
Also one of my all time favourite movies!
Did you ever see the tv series? I kinda loved it in high school, but have never seen it since.
If joey was real in todays time somethingaboutchickens would be making a video about him
But are there sheep? We need to know. Also, I love this movie so much.
RIP, Heath Ledger.
It's my favorite rom movie❤
I personally would love to you react Emma Myers' new show "A Good Girl's Guide to Murder" if it's not on your watchlist yet.
I have watched this movie so many times I was quoting every line. Only quibbles are her final poem should have actually been a sonnet. And the Shakespearean prom outfits are weird Victorian costumes.
I know. Davie Krumholtz looks like Austin Powers rather than Shakespeare.
Say it with me: doublet and hose!
She kissed me.
*Where?*
In the car😵💫🤣🤣
Speakin of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, you should watch him again in the movie, "50/50," if you're interested.
13:44 he's not going to do it because she just vomitted
Not here for the movie just wanted to say I love ur hair in this 😊🤭
Hii, loved your reaction as always. You should check out "my lady jane". It's a great series and I would love to hear what you have to say about that one.
I love this movei

but are there sheep
You remind me a little of Lindsey Weir from Freaks and Geeks
You stopped it too soon; you didn’t play the outtakes at the end.
You look really cute.
I would say WALL-E invented romance better.
youtube.com/@nintenmetro Hate to tell you, but romance was 'invented' _LONG_ ago. Perhaps you mean portrayed...
I hope Florida sings
