I'm 74 and she brings me tears no matter how often I see this. The horses are being used as a metaphor for life. The author of the song is begging the horses to slow down (he is aware he is approaching death), but, at the same time he is whipping them along (his chaotic lifestyle) - he knows that his lifestyle is taking him to an early death, however, he is unable to change it.....the composer of the song, Vladimir Vysotsky, was an alcoholic & drug addict and died in 1980 at the age of 42. Her masterpiece for all to see. It would have been nice to use the English subtitles for her words before and after.

This is the only song by Diana that I am not happy with. Not her fault, she's simply too young to do a convincing rendition of Vysotsky's masterpiece. Still, her voice has me spellbound as always. It feels like someone's pouring dark chocolate into my heart. This girl has a gift like no other. It is so unfortunate that her teacher, Olga Anatolyevna Donskaya is no longer here to guide Diana and help her grow as an artist.

When I listened to this rendition of Vysotsky's song, at some point I thought "Mrs. Donskaya would have corrected you here". Diana is such a gem, no wonder the adoring fans (I am one!) are sensitive about how she is perceived. She is still so young, a girl - not a woman yet, but she knows there's a long way ahead and I am sure she will continue perfecting her skills and her incredible gift. Even the best artists can benefit from guidance and mentoring of a seasoned professional. I hope somebody wise and experienced will be there for her to offer a helping hand. Diana deserves the best and I trust her head is in the right place.

The hero of the song drives horses along a cliff over an abyss through wind and fog. He feels that the end is near and asks the horses not to obey the whip and to gallop 'a little slower'. Who was the songwriter?
Vladimir Semjonovich Vysotsky (1938-1980) was a Russian poet, actor and singer, inconvenient for the state but the people loved him. In his songs he sang about topics that officially did not exist in the Soviet Union: prostitution, crime, anti-Semitism. He is still known and popular today in Russia, where he is considered the greatest songwriter of the 20th century. He always played his songs on a 7-string guitar.
Vysotsky died in 1980 (42 ys). His funeral took place during the Moscow Olympics. The Soviet media did not mention his death. But the news spread like wildfire, and the funeral turned into the largest non-state demonstration Moscow had ever seen.

I'm 74 and she brings me tears no matter how often I see this. The horses are being used as a metaphor for life. The author of the song is begging the horses to slow down (he is aware he is approaching death), but, at the same time he is whipping them along (his chaotic lifestyle) - he knows that his lifestyle is taking him to an early death, however, he is unable to change it.....the composer of the song, Vladimir Vysotsky, was an alcoholic & drug addict and died in 1980 at the age of 42. Her masterpiece for all to see. It would have been nice to use the English subtitles for her words before and after.
Wonderful description! Her coach and those close to her advised against her singing it. You can see why. I've seen her do two performances of this. Both times she cries when it is over. It drains her.

This is the only song by Diana that I am not happy with. Not her fault, she's simply too young to do a convincing rendition of Vysotsky's masterpiece. Still, her voice has me spellbound as always. It feels like someone's pouring dark chocolate into my heart. This girl has a gift like no other. It is so unfortunate that her teacher, Olga Anatolyevna Donskaya is no longer here to guide Diana and help her grow as an artist.

When I listened to this rendition of Vysotsky's song, at some point I thought "Mrs. Donskaya would have corrected you here". Diana is such a gem, no wonder the adoring fans (I am one!) are sensitive about how she is perceived. She is still so young, a girl - not a woman yet, but she knows there's a long way ahead and I am sure she will continue perfecting her skills and her incredible gift. Even the best artists can benefit from guidance and mentoring of a seasoned professional. I hope somebody wise and experienced will be there for her to offer a helping hand. Diana deserves the best and I trust her head is in the right place.

Кроме Высоцкого только Диана смогла подняться до его уровня исполнения этой песни : без форсирования, где автор усиливал свой надрыв и хрипотцу, а Диана - наоборот, смягчала ... Она спела без подражания , но настолько эмоционально, что достигла высот автора- великого актера, музыканта и поэта, автора песни, всенародного любимца, если не иконы... У меня слёзы ручьём текли во время исполнения Дианой Кони привередливые...
