It's times like this that I wish The Railway Series was still being written. Seeing a parallel story to the Skarloey Railway and a new diesel on the North Western Railway being names Skarloey would be really cool.

I believe 70 years after Christopher’s death somebody could write the railway series again. Not sure though

Don’t think we really need a story based off of everything that happens at Talyllyn

It would be very interesting to see what the potential for the RWS could have been with new engines, Steam or Diesel, new challenges, consequences, a drastic change to the world and much much more.

Oh boi, I already created the headcanon about it.
So, in early 2019, the Class 37 was purchased from the other railway. The Fat Controller didn't have the idea how to name it and created the name contest for him (like it was with Tom Rolt). Mr. Percival was taking a part there and offered to name the diesel "Skarloey". Many people voted for Mr. Percival's the idea and on August 10th 2019, the Class 37 was officially named Skarloey at Crovan's Gate. Skarloey (NG) also was in this ceremony. The diesel officially entered the service later that day.

5:10 The Class 37 in departmental use (Class 97) is going to be named after Talyllyn? That's great! Now, I can't wait for naming a Class 47 after Dolgoch!

Next month, it’ll be nine years, nearly a whole decade, since I visited the Talyllyn Railway with my parents. They were such a nice summer holidays, right between me finishing primary school and starting secondary school, and we did so many things, among them visiting Wales. Dolgoch pulled the train we rode on that day, seeing her at the beginning was a nice reminder of that. It’s always nice to see videos from you. 😊

I have a question that seems to be weird but if the tallyllyn railway were to be converted into a 3' 6" railway, what does need to be done in order to make the locomotives function, operate, and look like they were designed to be on 3' 6" railway ( like improvements, changing size, etc). Hopefully I don't weird someone out.

I think he would have really enjoyed the naming ceremony for that Class 97.
I was there and, to me, it felt exactly like a scene from one of his Railway Series books. The bit where all the locos saluted by whistling or hooting was particularly evocative of that.

      @@user-pi2wp8un3f Thanks.
The TR is a magic place to be.
Today we (kind of) saw real life crane shunting as band new carriage No. 25 was delivered by lorry from Porthmadog and then spun though 180 degrees (to get its doors on the correct side) as it was craned onto the middle road of the loop.
I don't think the classic Railway Series ever covered a future in which the road transport of rail locos and carriages would be normalised as common practice.

    Dolgokh?
I thought it was pronounced Dolgoch with a /ch/ sound and not a /kh/ sound.

    • @TalyllynRailway1865
      @TalyllynRailway1865  4 дні тому

You've got to remember that Dolgoch is a Welsh word, and welsh letters aren't the same as in English!
'Ch' doesn't make a /ch/ sound, but instead the /kh/ sound as you heard.
Another example of Welsh vs English letters is 'F', in Welsh you would pronounce it as /v/ - and to get an /f/ sound you would use the letter 'ff'.
