I LOVE my mommy, she was born to cook. Everybody wanted my mama to cook for them. I took home economics in high school but I learned a lot from my mother and grandmother as I was growing up. The first cooking experience with my mom was fresh fish. We had went fishing for rainbow trout. The same night she cleaned and cooked some and it was sooo good. A day or so later I wanted another piece, I expected her to clean and cook it for me. To my surprise, I was supervised and made to clean and cook my own fish. I've learned a lot from my mother but that experience just clenches my soul. The things that got me were cutting off the head and gutting it, among other things. I made my mother green beans, cornbread, macaroni and cheese, garlic roast with gravy, potato salad, and a pound cake with vanilla glaze. Whew....child I'm tired. She's worth every second of tiredness. 💜💜💜
I love that chocolate cake story. 💓 I try to be like her with my teens in the kitchen....having a sense of humor and using the time in the kitchen to teach and talk to my kids. 😊
My mom was an incredible cook. We never ate out very much. We was pretty poor. I got my love of cooking from her. She has passed and up in heaven preparing for the banquet table.

My mom definitely did not want kids who did not know how to cook because she felt that it was an important survival skill (mom you were absolutely right!), so at around 11, she started teaching me and my brother how to cook. She and my dad were always encouraging us to try and cook new things. One day I remember being so determined to make these meatballs and spaghetti. When I was done, I KNEW these meatballs were hard as rocks, totally flavorless because I didn't quite understand how to season things yet, and the sauce I made was so bland it might as well have been raw tomatoes. When we sat down for dinner, my parents ate the food with gusto. I was so confused, and I kept saying how terrible it tasted, but they went in for more forkfuls and were very appreciative of my efforts. When I bring this story up nowadays, they claim they don't remember this, but my mom has said, *if we did, do that, it was because we knew how hard you tried to cook and you always thank the hands that feed you as a sign of respect. I've never forgotten this lesson and how it was more important to be supportive and to be a light of encouragement to others, but also thank goodness me, I have come a looooooonnnnggggg way in the kitchen from those season-less days! Mom had some steak omelets from me this mothers day, and she told me to send the picture to all my aunts and hasn't stopped talking about them, okay!
Your momma sounds amazing! My mother is the most amazing and the most supportive to me and my brother no matter what, but when she didn't approve we subtly/ KNEW IT. I'm going to call her now. Xo love your channel.
My mom and grandmother loved cooking. They were excellent cooks and I miss both of them entirely. Any “good” cooking skills I have, I certainly got from them. Your meal looks great!
Great story I love it I remember me and my sister tried to make noodles 🍜 with floor water 💧 and some other things I can't remember but in the end instead of noodles we just had some damn sticky dough I miss my sister but we did have fun as kids
You’re my favorite cook on UA-cam. I love that you explain everything step by step as well as list all ingredients. Every meal that I’ve cooked following your instructions and ingredients have been a hit and I will definitely be purchasing your e-book.
My ma is like that. She didn't like cooking all that much but made sure dad and I had home cooked meals most of the time even when she was a teacher. Actually credit's where it's due- my baba (daddy) helped a lot. He did the weekly grocery shopping, washed, cleaned and put the stuff neatly in the fridge. He would pitch in to cook when Ma couldn't. He did all even though he has a small shoe shop near the railway station to run. As a child I didn't have to do much. Not even chores. Just studies. When my Ma got MS, I had to take over these duties. Baba does soooo much. He will always clean the fish, prawns and meat when he gets them from the bazaar. He knows I can't stand the smell. He will put it in neat containers in the freezer so that I have to touch them minimally when I cook them during the week. He does the cleaning when he comes home. When I finally had to move because of my job we got a lady to come for cooking and cleaning regularly. Ma had diabetes so she loves her sweets😂😂😂 . I try to make most sweet dishes with no sugar or stevia so that she can have it. This mother's day, since I am home she was looking forward to some sweets but I was too tired. I got her some jewelry instead. Baba got her flowers like always. I hope to make some crumb fried fish cutlets that both Ma and Baba absolutely love and some meat pulao (which I can do it the pressure cooker). It will be delicious but quick. I wish someone would make some butter milk biscuits for me though 😢 Kinda hard to find motivation to get all the ingredients and cook for myself . Unless it is Mac and cheese.
