Jasper here, I actually liked this game near my favorite jrpg of all time, my first Tales game that I’ve played and I became a big fan of the Tales series. I really enjoy the weird bugs and glitches on this game.

There is a translated iso of the directors cut you can play with a hard or soft modded PS2, the sequel has also been translated.

I just want to add that I am a huge "Tales of" fan and while I can understand the video makers feelings as ToD is not user friendly especially playing it back in the 90s as there was a mistranslation in a puzzle so despite doing what it asked you couldn't pass it aside from luck or from calling a help line or whatnot.
But despite how big Tales was in Japan, Namco had little faith in the series in the US and despite there being a good amount of fans they cut corners with the US releases up through Vesperia leaving in JP audio(I have no issue with this but some do), cutting audio, cutting content, using non-verbal instrument only songs in its openings replacing the exciting great J-pop songs(and yes im aware of copyrights and BS as that's atleast partially the cause for Tales of Eternia being called "Tales of Destiny II"" here in the US and despite the effort put into Eternia PSX the "Face-Chats/Skits" were still cut from Eternia as well as Destiny US much to my chagrin. (honestly i'd prefer the no voice skits to nothing at all but anyway...)
I still personally myself need to regai Destiny PSX...took me forever & lots of $$ to get ToD II and its guide...I hope to have all the US+JP Tales games or atleast the main titles at the very least+guides(if possible). I have all the PS2 games anyway. The Premium ToD II JP set always intrigued me. Sucks loosing all I had being forced to start over. But I got back ToD II PSX, ToP SFC, ToFantasia Vol. 2 (Both variants)/ToD 2/ToR/ToD Remake DC Premium set, ToL, TotA in JP and US+Guidebook for Legendia+Abyss PS2...ToG-F, ToS Chronicle/Complete, ToX&ToXII PS3, and ToH-R PSVita..no JP Tales PS3/Vita games yet and I dont myself count Zestria/Berseria and so on for my own reasons+Team Tales being disbanded.
As the Tales of Destiny Remake Directors Cut for PS2 has a complete Fan-Translation out(By: Lifebottle Productions) I highly suggest any tales fans to give it a shot as it honestly has one of the best LMBS-battle systems of all time (in my opinion ofcourse)

It's always great watching your videos. Your style is reminiscent of the earlier JRPGs you've done. It's also refreshing to hear a negative review of the games. The combat and inventory looks good, and I agree with you on the shortfalls. I wouldn't play it. If its related to tales of arise, I had the same problem losing interest in the characters and the battle 2/3 of the way through the game and put it down.

I pushed myself to finish Arise and I honestly don't feel it was worth doing so; it's one of the few games I've finished where I felt only feelings of mediocrity afterwards. A completely forgettable and diseposeable and shallow experience, though pretty to look at.

@@aweigh1010 I couldn't agree more. Really beautiful game, but I enjoyed the trailer more than the game. It's games like this that highlight the bad things about jrpgs. However, some people love it and play the series. I do that with action adventure games.

I haven't played Arise yet, but I also haven't played any of the Tales of games after the release of Zestiria, because I didn't enjoy that one either.

Berseria after Zestiria improved in a lot of ways, getting rid of that god awful way of strengthening equipment was needed as well as getting rid of the awkward camera positioning which would often leave you with an obscured view too. I really enjoyed Arise, definitely a great battle system, but I agree the story could have been better but I never found myself wanting to put it down. I do love the charm of the older Tales games though. I still think vesperia's aesthetic looks amazing even though it originally released on the 360.

Playing this game after the PSP version of Phantasia you're definitely taking a step back. Even the PS1 update of Phantasia brought a number of updates using Destiny's engine. Many features 'missing'from this game are also lacking in the super Famicom version of Phantasia.
Having said that just started playing Destiny after having finished the Super Famicom version of Phantasia myself and while I do feel this game is easier and the characters a bit bland I'm gonna give it a chance and I'm definitely interested in playing the PS1 version of Phantasia next.

Later in the game when you talk to random NPCs some give you a hint on what to do on the bonus dungeon.

I think this game's best strength is the nostalgia factor at this point. Taking the plot aside I feel the battle system has not aged well and feels quite clunky. It's a game of cliché unfortunately.
That said, I did enjoy Tales of Destiny 2 (Tales of Eternia here in the UK) at the time it was released. Unsure how I'd feel if I went back to it now though!

      Agreed.
And yeah, I enjoyed Tales of Eternia too, but I feel like the concepts in that game were a little more fleshed out. I'll revisit it eventually for this channel, so stay tuned!

I like the simplicity personally. Also if you used the manual ring you could weave basic attacks with specials pretty seamlessly. The newest games had way too much complexity for my liking.
Sure the story is whatever but the swordian thing was awesome. I realize it's not good long term since it makes weapon collecting pointless except for collection sake.
Maybe for adults its eh but for kids it was amazing.

Tales of Destiny II is Eternia here in the UK. Tales of Destiny 2 is a sequel to the first Tales of Destiny but never saw a true English release. There is a translated iso of the remade directors cut of the first game for PS2 though and also a translated iso of Tales of Destiny 2 that can be found online if you wanted to play them.

But it costs TOO much it costs MORE then a PS5 for both IT and Eternia that the 2 games really NEED a PS4 PS5 Switch port the Destiny 1 PS2 REMAKE NEVER left Japan either so even IT needs a PS4 PS5 Switch port.
