One thing I've noticed being from the blue mesa/flaming gorge areas of lake trout fishing is the difference in gear use as far a presentation it makes me wonder if it is interchangeable
I live by lake huron and fish lake trout and salmon all the time, if you can find and deep water structure fish it with meat rigs and big flashers at about 2.2 mph thats what these bigger lake trout seem to like out here
@@SuperiorAngling ive personally seen a 27 pound lake trout caught out of lake huron along with a couple 20+ pound kings but theyrehard to catch sometimes
Our board setups go like this: 300 yards of 20 pound test braid backing to leadcore, whether it be 2 colors or 6, to a 30 foot mono leader, to a barrel swivel, then to 5 feet of flourocarbon. When using spoons, a barrel swivel of high quality is needed. Mono because its cheaper than flouro and flouro at the end for transparency in the water.
I fish the ontario side kingcardin mostly and we fish for laketrout all the time biggest I've caught is just over 30 we also have amazing rainbows/steelhead and kings also. look up the chantry fishing derby
Well I'd love to get out fishing with you I've been fishing Lake Huron seriously for about 15 years I've only had a handful of great days out there averaging a hundred days a year. I do catch fish but never a lot of fish. Any tips you could give me would be helpful
Some questions from a subscriber: What is the purpose of the s hooks on your rod trees? When running spoons what qualities in them do you look for in fishing for lakers? Do you have favourite colours or manufacturers?
Those S hooks, are simply rubber straps you can put around the rod/reel in case you thought your rod may come out of the holder. We have never used them. When running spoons, you want a spoon with a good flutter. If a spoon is too heavy, it will drag in the water, vs flutter. Jims Flashback is a spoon that is our favorite. They have great colors, and we love the profile and shape of the spoon. Also the texture. They are available at Marine General in Duluth, MN. Great colors and a variety of sizes.

As an example we mostly use massive cowbells/popgear with a 6in tube jig behind trolling
It's absolutely awesome. Harbor beach is where I normally launch.
Never seen anything as much a sure thing as lake trout in Lake Huron. All you have to do is locate them.
Where did you launch out of?
Used to dive up there. Huron has crazy visibility long into summer. I always assumed it was the quaggas.
it is truly remarkable. Would never had guessed it.

We sight fish lake trout in 4-8ft water on lake Huron during the winter ice season
Drool...That sounds like a blast!
@@SuperiorAngling it is! Here is a link of how it's done, not my video but same area we fish.

how far offshore were you? You may have mentioned it but I didn't catch it.
20-30 miles. Later in the day, fished 10 miles out with similar results.
What kind of set up do you run on your planer boards? From lead, snap weights, to lures?

Nice video and nice fish!
What port were you fishing out of?
Alpena.
What about muskies in Huron?? I know they're in there never hear anyone fish them
Ive hit 2 accidentally trolling for salmon both small fish under 40 in
@@rickfascinato5758 there's so many good musky waters connected they've gotta be in there. I'd like to think it could produce big fish too

You guys should come up to Lake Champlain. Where 12-18 lbs. can be caught all day long.. PIGS. We don't see much flat water though.
So what are the odds of seeing a Lake Huron ice fishing for lake trout episode in the future?
We will keep our eyes on it! Would be a blast!
Pretty slim as Lake Huron in our area seldom freezes over.
Fish for lakers out of caseville on ice.... they are always there..
