The Florida Keys are a 120 mile archipelago that extend off the southern tip of Florida south of Miami. Most famous in the Florida Keys is Key West but in the 120 miles before the overseas highway connects a tropical paradise island chain. Endless ocean views, turquoise waters and blue skies capture the feeling of the Keys while running on island time. On the Atlantic side of Key West is Higgs Beach just a short walk from Smathers Beach - the biggest beach in Key West. Key West's smaller beach is lined with iconic walk ways, palm trees and perfect beach sand overlooking Florida's famous turquoise waters. Although the Florida Keys are generally not known for tropical white beaches, Higgs Beach gives you everything you could want from a Caribbean island beach.
I hope you enjoy this relaxing, scenic walk along Higgs Beach in Key West, Florida. Years ago, that beach was always very crowded. Surprised at how empty it is.
@Frank Dunbar I think it was just a weird week. Right before all the spring break stuff started, the entire island was relatively quiet the days I was there

How bad is the Seaweed smell ? And can you smell it when you’re just walking around Key West? We have a trip planned for May and we are trying to decide if we want to still go.
It's there depending on the tide or wind but not overbearing in the least. As soon as you get away from the water, it's barely noticeable at all. Absolutely go! It is no where close to being so bad that you should pass up the experience!
